Looking to craft powerful armor and talismans in Monster Hunter Wilds? Your quest begins with the elusive Herbivore Carapace, a rare but essential material dropped only by High Rank Ceratonoth in the Windward Plains. These small, dinosaur-like creatures travel in herds and require a keen hunter’s eye-and a fast ranged weapon-to farm effectively. Master the hunt, and you’ll unlock key upgrades that can turn the tide of battle in your favor.

Our Monster Hunter Wilds guide will tell you how to get herbivore carapaces and how to collect them.

How to get herbivore carapaces in Monster Hunter Wilds

To get Herbivore Carapaces in Monster Hunter Wilds, you need to hunt High Rank Ceratonoths, which are small, dinosaur-like creatures found exclusively in the Windward Plains. These monsters appear in herds, and both male and female Ceratonoths can drop Herbivore Carapaces with a 70% chance upon carving after defeat. It is recommended to use ranged weapons to efficiently hunt them, as they tend to flee when attacked. Note that only High Rank Ceratonoths drop Herbivore Carapaces, while Low Rank versions drop Herbivore Shells instead. To farm these carapaces effectively, locate Ceratonoth herds near the Plains Base Camp and other areas in the Windward Plains, and rest in your tent to ensure daytime spawning for better availability.

Herbivore carapaces come from High Rank Ceratonoths. And that’s it. You’ve got a 70% chance of getting an herbivore carapace each time you carve a slain Ceratonoth.

Ceratonoths are only found in the Windward Plains. They’re pretty abundant, though. Head to your map and open the icon filter to find some – male or female, it doesn’t matter – and set a waypoint for your Seikret.

How can I efficiently farm Herbivore Carapaces from Ceratonoth in Wilds

To efficiently farm Herbivore Carapaces in Monster Hunter Wilds, focus on hunting High Rank Ceratonoth in the Windward Plains, particularly in Area 8 near the oasis, which offers both abundant Ceratonoth herds and Sandpepper for trading. Use the map’s filter to track Ceratonoth easily by selecting the “Small Monsters” filter and setting waypoints to their locations in Areas 1, 8, 11, and 12. Since Ceratonoth travel in herds and tend to scatter when attacked, employing a ranged weapon and mounting your Seikret to chase them down can speed up the process. Keep in mind that the drop rate for Herbivore Carapaces is about 70%, so repeated hunting is necessary, and sometimes you might get Raw Meat instead. Alternatively, you can gather Sandpepper near water in Area 8 and trade it with Kilama in Windsong Village for Herbivore Shells, which can supplement your farming if you need more materials. Farming during daytime improves herd spawns, and returning to base camps to craft gear from collected carapaces will help you progress efficiently.

What is the most efficient area to farm Ceratonoth for Herbivore Carapaces in Wilds

The most efficient area to farm Ceratonoth for Herbivore Carapaces in Monster Hunter Wilds is Area 8 near the oasis in the Windward Plains. This location not only has abundant Ceratonoth herds but also provides Sandpepper gathering spots, which you can trade with Kilama in Windsong Village for additional Herbivore Shells, making your farming more efficient. Ceratonoth herds also appear in Areas 1, 11, and 12, but Area 8 is preferred due to the combination of hunting and gathering opportunities in one place.
