What is ore in Monster Hunter Wilds?
In Monster Hunter Wilds, ore refers to the valuable materials obtained from Mining Outcrops-geodes with blue crystals found scattered across various biomes. These ores are essential for forging and upgrading weapons and armor, playing a crucial role in character progression. Mining Outcrops can be mined multiple times before depleting and will respawn after a set period. Different ores, ranging from common Iron Ore to rare Dragonite Ore and Novacrystals, are available depending on the location and rank (Low or High) of the area. Efficient mining and farming of these ores, especially during special events called Upsurges, are key to acquiring the best gear in the game.
Ore is just one of several resources you will need to build weapons and armor for you and your Palico in Monster Hunter Wilds. The other components to look out for are bones and, of course, monster parts.
Naturally, there is some overlap between monster parts and the other two main categories, but know that ore is primarily sourced from Mining Outcrops. They all look the same, no matter your biome, so keep an eye on your mini map for the ore icon and the amethyst-like geode in the overworld.

As with previous games, you will get three ores per Mining Outcrop provided you keep striking it. In keeping with the spiritual precursor game Worlds (Wilds isn’t a strict sequel) you don’t need a pickaxe to mine ore. Collecting your loot is also much quicker than it has been in previous games, too.
Remember, as with previous games, if you’re specifically after ore, you can use your map to locate Mining Outcrops. If you set the Outcrop as a waypoint, you can hop on your trusty Seikret and autopilot your way there.
Low rank ore locations list
Low rank ore locations in Monster Hunter Wilds are found primarily at Mining Outcrops scattered across various regions such as Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria. These ores are generally of Rarity 4 or 5 and include Iron Ore, Machalite Ore, Dragonite Ore, Earth Crystal, Light Crystal, and Firestone among others. Low rank ores are more common and easier to gather compared to high rank ores, making them essential for early crafting and upgrades. Players can efficiently locate these ores by using the in-game map to set waypoints on Mining Outcrops and riding their mount, Seikret, to the spots automatically. Each region has specific low rank ores available, and mining from these outcrops yields multiple ores per hit without needing special tools.
Everything in Monster Hunter Wilds can be split into Low Rank and High Rank. Low Rank monsters are easier to subdue than High Rank monsters, and Low Rank ores are, understandably, more common than those you can only find once you unlock High Rank.
Anything marked as Rarity 4 or 5 can be found at Low Rank.

High rank ore locations list
In Monster Hunter Wilds, High Rank ore locations offer a variety of rarer and more valuable ores essential for crafting advanced weapons and armor. These ores, ranging from Rarity 6 to Rarity 7, can be found in specific biomes such as Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria. Notable high-rank ores include Carbalite Ore, Novacrystals, Eternal Scarlet Amber, and Goldenneum, often located at Mining Outcrops marked on your mini-map. Efficient mining involves setting waypoints to these outcrops and using your mount, Seikret, to quickly travel between them. High Rank zones also feature ores dropped by tempered monsters, adding to the variety and challenge of gathering materials for top-tier gear.
Once you unlock High Rank, the list of ores you can collect expands significantly. However, since you can still collect Rarity 4 and 5 ores amongst the High Rank ores, their becomes much more noticeable.
The exception to this rule is monster parts. Some Low Rank monster parts are available at High Rank (particularly tails), but most are not. These are often replaced by a High Rank version of the same item – a Spike instead of a Spike, or Krano Copper becoming Krano Pyrite, for example.
