There isn’t nearly enough time for you to test out every combination in battle, so use the training area to speed up the process – especially as you can test your weapons in a variety of battle situations as you can adjust the training dummy’s settings.

To practice weapons in the training area in Monster Hunter Wilds, first unlock the area by defeating the Alpha Doshuguma. Then, head to the Windward Plains Base Camp and enter the training area through the entrance marked with red drapes. Inside, you can use the High Purrformance Barrel Puncher, a combat dummy that allows you to safely test all 14 weapon types and 91 weapon combinations. You can change your gear at the makeshift camp and customize the dummy’s behavior by talking to Luke, the Training Area Meownager, adjusting settings like hide toughness, wound infliction, attack modes, and recovery. This setup lets you practice weapon combos, guard, dodge, and counters in various combat scenarios without the pressure of a real hunt, making it ideal for mastering new weapons and builds.
The training area is a new location where you can try and practice every available weapon in various battle situations. In the beta, you must first hunt the Alpha Doshuguma to unlock the training area.
To reach the training area, travel to the base camp and head south towards a wooden entryway with red drapes. Head on inside to find a makeshift camp, Luke the Training Area Meownager, and the High Purrformance Barrel Puncher.

At the makeshift camp, you can access the item, equipment, and Palico menus – allowing you to transfer items and change yours and your Palico’s equipment.
Talk to Luke the Training Area Meownager to adjust the training settings. Check out the list below to see all of the settings you can change in the training area:
- Hide settings – Soft or Hard
- Wound settings – Normal (same as monster), On (instantly inflict wound), or Off (do not inflict wound)
- Select Mode – Standby, Smash Mode, Throw Mode, Automatic
- Smash Pattern – Weak (pratfall), Normal (fly back), or Strong (cannot guard)
- Orientation – Forward, Backward, Left, Right, or Search (target player)
- Natural Recovery settings – Enable or Disable
Once you’ve adjusted the settings, you’re free to let loose on the High Purrformance Barrel Puncher. To help with your decision making, on the left side of your screen you can see a few suggested combos for your equipped weapon, and how much damage you’ve dealt to the target.
