’Ancient Vows’ quest steps in POE2

The “Ancient Vows” quest in Path of Exile 2 begins when you acquire either the Sun Clan Relic or the Kabala Clan Relic, which drop randomly from enemies in the Bone Pits and Keth areas, respectively. Your task is to find both relics by farming these locations. After obtaining them, head to the Valley of the Titans, where you will find an altar near the waypoint. Place both relics into the altar to activate the medallion, and then choose one of the offered buffs as your reward. This quest is notable for its vague instructions, requiring exploration and enemy farming to complete, but it grants a valuable lasting enhancement upon completion.

The “Ancient Vows” neatly breaks down into four steps:

  1. Start the “Ancient Vows” quest by looting the Kabala Clan Relic or the Sun Clan Relic.
  2. Collect the missing relic of the two.
  3. Return the relics to the altar found in the Valley of the Titans.
  4. Choose one of the two buffs.

’Ancient Vows’ relic locations in POE2

The two relics required for the “Ancient Vows” quest in Path of Exile 2 are found as random drops from enemies in distinct locations. The Kabala Clan Relic can be obtained in the Keth area, while the Sun Clan Relic drops in The Bone Pits. Players must collect both relics and then return to the altar located in the Valley of the Titans to place them and complete the quest, which grants a permanent buff as a reward.

There are two relics that you need to complete the “Ancient Vows” quest: the Kabala Clan and Sun Clan. You’ve already found one to start the quest, so you’ll only need to find the other. Both relics can be found as a random drop from enemies, but they’re found in two different maps.

The Kabala Clan Relic can be found in Keth, while the Sun Clan Relic can be found in The Bone Pits.

How to use the ’Ancient Vows’ relics in POE2

To use the ’Ancient Vows’ relics in Path of Exile 2, you first need to collect both the Sun Clan Relic and the Kabala Clan Relic, which drop randomly from enemies in the Bone Pits and Keth areas respectively. Once you have both relics, travel to the Valley of the Titans and locate the altar near the waypoint. Highlight the relic slots on the altar (hold Alt on PC), then drag and drop both relics into the pedestal to complete the quest. After placing the relics, you will be prompted to choose one of two permanent buffs for your character: either 30% increased charm charges gained or 15% mana recovery from flasks. Note that you can only select one buff, so choose carefully as the other is lost forever.

After you’ve retrieved both the Kabala Clan Relic and Sun Clan Relic, make your way to the Valley of the Titans waypoint. Beside the waypoint, you’ll find a medallion that seems to fit both relics. Place both relics inside the medallion to complete the quest and receive a buff of your choosing.

If you’re having a hard time placing the relics inside of the medallion because it keeps disappearing, head over to the settings and switch to the “Interface” tab. Scroll down and turn on the “Always Highlight” setting to keep the medallion on your screen as your drag the relics over from your inventory.

Keep in mind that this setting will highlight items on the ground for you, so your screen might get a little cluttered if you leave it on!

Which Ancient Vows buff should you choose

When choosing which Ancient Vows buff to pick in Path of Exile 2, consider your character’s build and playstyle. You can select between 30% increased Charm Charges gained or 15% increased Mana Recovery from Flasks. The Charm Charges buff is generally more versatile and benefits many builds by enhancing defensive charm usage, especially for melee characters who endure frequent damage. On the other hand, the Mana Recovery buff is ideal for mana-intensive builds like Sorcerers, Mercenaries, or Witches, helping sustain their spellcasting during combat. Importantly, you can switch between these buffs anytime by returning to the Valley of the Titans waypoint, allowing you to experiment and choose the one that best complements your build.

After you’ve successfully placed the relics into the medallion, you’ll need to choose between two buffs:

  • 30% increased Charm Charges gained
  • 15% increased Mana Recovery from Flasks

These buffs can work on any class, but their value will change depending on your build. For example, if you find yourself running out of mana often, the mana recovery will be better suited for you. The increased charm charges could work for those who are able to consistently take a specific type of damage. For example, Infernalists can convert cold and lightning damage taken to fire damage taken, so the charm charges buff and a ruby charm could work well.

Overall, take the buff that suits your build the best, and, if you ever want to change it, you can teleport back to the Valley of the Titans waypoint and switch your buff at no cost.

What hidden strategies can help me find the relics faster in Ancient Vows

To find the relics faster in the “Ancient Vows” quest in Path of Exile 2, focus on these hidden strategies:

  • Target specific enemy types: In the Bone Pits, prioritize killing hyena-type enemies for the Sun Clan Relic, and in Keth, hunt snake-like enemies (Nagi mobs) for the Kabala Clan Relic, as these have higher chances to drop the relics.

  • Explore thoroughly and repeatedly: Both the Bone Pits and Keth areas are procedurally generated, so the exact locations of enemies and relic drops vary. Keep exploring different parts of the maps and kill as many enemies as possible to increase your chances, since relic drops are random.

  • Use waypoints and fast travel: Once you find the Valley of the Titans waypoint, use it to quickly return to the altar after collecting relics, saving time on backtracking.

  • Keep an eye out for green item text: Relics appear as green-colored quest items on the ground, so carefully scan defeated enemies’ drops to avoid missing them.

  • Hold Alt to place relics: When placing relics on the altar, hold the Alt key to drag and drop them properly, ensuring smooth quest progression.

By combining focused enemy targeting, thorough exploration, and efficient waypoint use, you can significantly speed up finding both relics and completing the Ancient Vows quest.

What are the most effective ways to farm relics quickly in Bone Pits and Keth

The most effective ways to farm relics quickly in Bone Pits and Keth in Path of Exile 2 involve optimizing enemy targeting and map traversal:

  • Focus on high-density enemy packs: In Bone Pits, concentrate on killing hyena-type enemies, and in Keth, focus on snake-like Nagi mobs, as these enemies have higher chances to drop the Sun Clan and Kabala Clan relics respectively.

  • Efficient map clearing: Move swiftly through the Bone Pits and Keth areas, clearing enemies methodically to maximize kills per run. Use movement skills or speed-enhancing gear to reduce downtime between fights.

  • Repeated runs and waypoint use: Since relic drops are random, repeatedly run these areas and use waypoints to quickly return to the start or the altar for placing relics, minimizing backtracking time.

  • Group farming: If possible, team up with other players to clear enemies faster and increase overall kill count, which statistically improves relic drop rates.

  • Use loot filters and careful scanning: Keep an eye out for the green-colored relic drops to avoid missing them during fast-paced combat.

These strategies collectively help maximize relic drop rates and reduce farming time in Bone Pits and Keth.
