Ready to unravel the cosmic mysteries of House Va’ruun? Starfield’s first major expansion, Shattered Space, invites you to explore the enigmatic planet Va’ruun’kai and its shattered capital, Dazra. To embark on this thrilling journey, simply complete the introductory mission “One Small Step,” then grav-jump to an unoccupied system to receive a distress call from the massive space station, The Oracle. Dock there to begin the “What Remains” quest and dive into a story rich with ancient faith and perilous secrets-just be sure you’re around level 35 to survive the challenges ahead.
Access to the Shattered Space comes part of the Premium or Constellation Editions of the game, and with a Premium Edition upgrade for those who purchased the base game or are accessing through Xbox Game Pass. From there, make sure you download the expansion – go to the game page on your chosen platform to find it – as well as the game’s latest patch.
With that done, you have everything you need to get started – so here’s how to access the Shattered Space DLC in Starfield.
How to start the Shattered Space DLC in Starfield
To start the Shattered Space DLC in Starfield, first ensure you own and have installed the expansion, which is included with the Premium or Constellation Editions or available as a Premium Upgrade for Standard Edition or Game Pass users. Next, complete the introductory main quest “One Small Step.” After that, use your ship to grav-jump to a star system or planetary orbit that is not currently involved in any mission or encounter. This will trigger a distress call from a mysterious space station called The Oracle, initiating the DLC’s first mission, “What Remains.” Dock at The Oracle to begin exploring the new content. It is recommended to be at least level 35 before starting, as the DLC features tougher enemies and challenges.
Once you have installed the Shattered Space DLC, the only other requirement is to have completed the introductionary quest “One Small Step” whether on your first playthrough or on a New Game Plus run.
Next, go to the planetary map andgrav jump to another system that isn’t part of a mission or encounter. By doing this, you should receive a distress call from The Oracle, an ominous space station, and receive the “What Remains” mission.

Undertake this when you’re ready by choosing to dock with The Oracle – developer Bethesda recommends you are level 35 and above – to start the Shattered Space DLC.
If The Oracle is not appearing, warp again – it’s possible you’ve accidentally stumbled upon a system with a mission or encounter. For us, traveling to Barnard’s Star from Jemison appeared to do the trick.

If it’s still not working, double-check to make sure you have Shattered Space installed, something that caught us out as it’s not clear in-game!
