And there are several games and franchises we haven’t seen in a while that could conceivably make an appearance: the Perfect Dark reboot, State of Decay 3, or maybe even a new Gears of War game reveal.
There’s a lot riding on the Xbox Games Showcase this year. In 2024, the brand is facing a bit of an identity crisis. To quote my colleague Oli Welsh in his analysis of what to expect from the Xbox Showcase: “What is Xbox now? Do the consoles matter at all? Is Microsoft now just a massive third-party publisher – a bigger Electronic Arts? Is the Game Pass strategy working? How does owning Call of Duty help any of this? How has Halo, Xbox’s flagship franchise, been allowed to fall into disrepair?”
