Pokémon Go Shaymin Grass and Gratitude Special Research Tasks Rewards Guide

Guides

Trainers have a chance to meet the Mythical Shaymin through the “Grass and Gratitude” Special Research, filled with nature-inspired tasks and exclusive rewards that celebrate Pokémon Go’s enduring charm.

This research set became available to all players on April 20, and it has no time limit on when you have to complete it, so take your time unlocking the cute little hedgehog buddy.

Some players may already have Shaymin from a previous paid research ticket. Even if you paid for and completed this ticket, you will be able to get another Shaymin.

Below, we’ve listed out the seven steps for “Grass and Gratitude.”

Grass and Gratitude step 1 of 7

Step 1 of the Grass and Gratitude Special Research introduces Trainers to Shaymin’s story through a few straightforward tasks. Players are asked to catch several Grass-type Pokémon, use Berries while catching them, and explore their surroundings to earn Stardust and Poké Balls as rewards. Completing these objectives sets the tone for the rest of the research line, helping Trainers connect with nature-themed Pokémon encounters and progress toward meeting Shaymin.

  • Take 4 snapshots of your Pokémon (3 Nanab Berries)
  • Spin 9 PokéStops or gyms (15 Poké Balls)
  • Walk 2 km (Cherubi encounter)

Rewards: 1,000 XP, 500 Stardust, 1 Mysterious Component

Grass and Gratitude step 2 of 7

Grass and Gratitude step 2 of 7: Complete the second task by catching a Shaymin in its Land Form during daytime, then claim the special research reward to progress toward snagging the next clue and unlocking more helpful tips for your Grass-type adventure.

  • Take 4 snapshots of grass-type Pokémon (3 Razz Berries)
  • Take 9 snapshots of wild Pokémon (Jumpluff encounter)
  • Take 2 snapshots of wild flying-type Pokémon (6 Super Potions)

Rewards: 1,500 XP, 1,000 Stardust, 1 Rocket Radar

Grass and Gratitude step 3 of 7

Shaymin’s Grass and Gratitude step 3 invites you to cultivate a closer connection with nature and your in-game teammates, rewarding careful exploration and thoughtful interactions as you progress through the special research.

  • Power up Pokémon 22 times (1 Star Piece)

Rewards: 2,500 XP, 1,500 Stardust, 1 Premium Battle Pass

Grass and Gratitude step 4 of 7

Step 4 asks players to continue helping Professor Willow by completing research tasks linked to nature and gratitude. Trainers will need to catch more Grass-type Pokémon, make several Nice Throws, and explore PokéStops to gather items. Finishing this step grants useful rewards such as Stardust, XP, and encounters with Pokémon that fit the theme of Shaymin’s connection to nature.

  • Catch 4 grass-type Pokémon (Leafeon encounter)
  • Catch 9 Pokémon (15 Great Balls)
  • Catch 2 flying-type Pokémon (6 Hyper Potions)

Rewards: 3,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust, 2 Golden Razz Berries

Grass and Gratitude step 5 of 7

Step 5 of the “Grass and Gratitude” Special Research takes Trainers closer to meeting Shaymin by focusing on fieldwork that reflects its connection to nature. Tasks include catching Grass-type Pokémon, exploring new PokéStops, and completing curveball throws. Finishing this step rewards Stardust, encounter opportunities, and more progress toward Shaymin’s appearance, keeping the pacing steady while maintaining a sense of discovery.

  • Complete 4 Field Research Tasks (3 Pinap Berries)
  • Earn 9 hearts with your buddy (15 Ultra Balls)
  • Hatch 2 eggs (6 Max Potions)

Rewards: 5,000 XP, 2,500 Stardust, 2 Silver Pinap Berries

Grass and Gratitude step 6 of 7

Step 6 of the Grass and Gratitude Special Research focuses on wrapping up your fieldwork and celebrating your progress with Shaymin. Trainers are asked to catch several Pokémon and complete a few final tasks related to Grass-type species. After finishing these objectives, you’ll receive Stardust, XP, and a few useful items, along with a sense of closure before the final stage of this special research line.

  • Catch 22 different species of Pokémon (1 Lucky Egg)

How to evolve Shaymin to Sky Forme

In Pokémon Go, Shaymin doesn’t evolve traditionally to its Sky Forme; instead, you change its forme. Land Forme Shaymin (from Grass and Gratitude) requires specific steps to access Sky Forme, which was introduced during Pokémon Go Fest 2022.

Changing to Sky Forme

Sky Forme is initially obtained via the paid A Radiant Reunion Special Research (ticketed event quest from Go Fest 2022 Finale). Complete up to Step 5 to encounter Sky Forme Shaymin directly.

Once you have Sky Forme:

  • Open your Pokémon list and search for Shaymin.

  • Tap Change Forme below Power Up (costs 25 Shaymin Candy and 10,000 Stardust).

  • Toggle between Sky and Land Formes freely afterward with the same cost-no time limits or items like Gracidea needed, unlike main series games.

Key Limitations

  • Grass and Gratitude gives only Land Forme; it can’t switch without a Sky Forme first.

  • Sky Forme was Shiny-eligible during its debut; check your encounter [prior context].

  • Both formes are strong Grass-types, but Sky excels in Flying/Grass movesets for raids [ from history].

If Niantic adds free Sky Forme access in future events (like 2026 updates), it’ll likely follow event research patterns [ from history]. Power up with 25 Candies from catches or feeding your buddy.

How to get Shaymin in Pokémon Go during Grass and Gratitude event

Shaymin is obtained through the free “Grass and Gratitude” Special Research in Pokémon Go, available since April 20, 2023, with no expiration. This quest rewards a Land Forme Shaymin encounter upon completing Step 6, and it’s accessible to all players-even those who’ve caught Shaymin before from events like Go Fest 2022.

Claiming the Research

Log into Pokémon Go to automatically receive the quest from Niantic. Progress through its 7 steps at your own pace; there’s no deadline. Tasks focus on snapshots, catches, exploration, buddies, and Field Research-perfect for casual daily play [prior context].

Key Tasks to Shaymin

  • Steps 1-5: Build habits like taking snapshots (e.g., 4 of Grass-types), spinning 9 PokéStops, walking 2 km, powering up 22 Pokémon, catching 22 species, hatching eggs, and earning buddy hearts. Intermediate rewards include encounters (Cherubi, Jumpluff, Leafeon), items (Star Piece, Rocket Radar), XP, and Stardust.

  • Step 6: Catch 22 different Pokémon species → Shaymin (Land Forme) encounter, plus 5,000 XP and 2,500 Stardust.

  • Step 7: Auto-claims for 25 Shaymin Candy, Incense, and Ultra Balls [prior context].

Completion Notes

Use Pinap Berries on the Shaymin encounter for extra Candy. This method ensures global, permanent access without events or tickets. For Sky Forme afterward, complete the paid A Radiant Reunion research first [prior context].
