Hidden beneath the streets of Mor Dhona lies Eureka Orthos, a challenge reserved for those brave enough to face its shifting floors and unseen dangers. Here’s how to gain access to this mysterious deep dungeon and begin your ascent into its ever-twisting depths.
Deep dungeons are roguelite multi-floor instances that have their own leveling system and items. Defeat the enemies inside to level up and progress to the next floor, and open chests to receive items and upgrade your gear. You can enter the dungeon solo or with up to four people in a party, and you have two save slots to keep your progression.
Continue on to find out where to unlock Eureka Orthos and to learn the differences between it and Heaven-on-High and Palace of the Dead.

Differences between Eureka Orthos and the other deep dungeons
Eureka Orthos stands apart from Palace of the Dead and Heaven-on-High through its focus on mechanics-heavy bosses with late or untelegraphed AoE attacks that deal lethal damage past floor 30, rather than high auto-attack threats from prior dungeons. Enemies inflict minimal unavoidable damage, shifting emphasis to precise dodging over raw survivability in job choice. It introduces demiclones from tomestones as summonable NPC allies in place of magicites, dread beasts as elite foes, protomanders instead of pomanders, and pillars over cairns, alongside separate save slots and a level 81 start.โ
The major differences between Eureka Orthos and the other deep dungeons are the dread beasts and demiclones. Smaller changes include the name change from a few name changes from pomanders to protomanders, cairns to pillars, and few different protomanders.
Dread Beasts

Dread beasts are much stronger than the average monster inside Eureka Orthos, but once you defeat one, you’ll receive a buff. Dread beasts can be easily spotted by the glow around them, so keep an eye out for any enemies that have an active animation surrounding them.
Be very careful around dread beasts because they will one shot you in one auto attack. Make sure you have the right protomanders and a high aetherpool level to take one on.
Demiclones

Demiclones take over for Magicites from Heaven-on-High in Eureka Orthos, but they don’t function the same as Magicites. Demiclones will not wipe out the floor, but instead will summon a demiclone to fight alongside you. Each demiclone has their own set of abilities that caters to each of the three roles: DPS, healer, and tank. There is a chance to obtain Demiclones by opening Silver Coffers inside of Eureka Orthos.
Eureka Orthos Rewards
Eureka Orthos Rewards include a range of exclusive items that make the climb through the deep dungeon worthwhile. Players can earn unique weapons and gear with distinctive glowing designs, as well as minions, mounts, and glamour items. Progressing through higher floors increases the chances of obtaining rarer drops, while special tokens gained within the dungeon can be exchanged for valuable rewards from specific vendors in Mor Dhona.
Once completing an instance of Eureka Orthos, you’ll receive rewards depending on your level and progress.

Orthos Aetherpool Gear
Similar to the other deep dungeons, you can keep your aetherpool gear by exchanging Orthos aetherpool grips. If you’ve strengthened your Orthos aetherpool arm and armor to 10, and you’ve completed the sidequest “Rage Extinguished,” you can synthesize an Orthos aetherpool grip which will reduce the strength of your aetherpool arm and armor by 10.
Eureka Orthos beginner tips and mechanics
Eureka Orthos is a solo-friendly deep dungeon in FFXIV with 100 floors of randomized mobs, bosses, and heavy emphasis on mechanics over raw damage. Beginners should prioritize learning enemy telegraphs, using Aetherpool consumables wisely, and managing pulls carefully.โโ
Core Mechanics
Enemies use one-shot abilities (often their 1st or 2nd skill), so dodge AoEs, tethers, and telegraphed attacks-many aggro by sight (avoid cones), sound (walk to bypass), or proximity (kill first).
Floors have debuff sets (check at start); bad ones like heavy damage taken or reduced heals need buffs like Serenity or Demi-clone.โโ
Progress saves in two slots; magic pots restore HP/MP fully but are limited.โ
Beginner Consumable Tips
-
Protomander of Lethargy (floors 1, 4, 7+ for new mobs): Slows enemy casts to learn mechanics safely.โ
-
Raising/Flights: Use early for risky sets; save for 71+ “hard sets.”โ
-
Strength/Serenity: Boost damage/healing at pull starts; keep at 2 stacks for pacing.โ
-
Demi-clone/Steel: For bosses-clone tanks adds, Steel survives mistakes. Fish silver chests for clones.โโ
-
Prioritize patrols > proximity > dangerous mobs (e.g., Orthonites’ pull+AoE).โโ
Pull and Survival Strategies
Pull small groups first, use LoS (line-of-sight) to dodge uninterruptible casts like Quake.โ
Kite threats like Ahriman or Kelpie (Gallop tether then puddle); walk to avoid sound aggro.โโ
Solo tip: Any familiar DPS job works-focus mechanics over rotation; use pots liberally early on.โ
Best jobs for soloing Eureka Orthos
Any DPS job you master works well for soloing Eureka Orthos, as mechanics matter more than raw power-focus on ones you can play without checking hotbars. Top picks like Red Mage, Machinist, Samurai, Summoner, and Reaper shine due to strong burst, survival tools, and castbar flexibility.โ
Recommended DPS Jobs
-
Red Mage (RDM): Vercure heals itemless floors, Sleep CCs adds, spells dodge silences/reflects; gap-closers aid evasion.โโ
-
Machinist (MCH): High burst without alignment, easy kiting, popular for PotD carryover; handles debuffs well.โโ
-
Samurai (SAM): Massive burst kills threats fast, consistent even in unlucky RNG; less reliant on CDs.
-
Summoner (SMN): Bahamut bursts tough mobs, instant casts ignore some debuffs; strong for early clears.โ
Job Tier Insights
Tanks and healers (e.g., AST, SCH) lag due to lower DPS and time pressure, though viable with skill. BRD/DNC rank lower from weaker survival. Play your best job-clear rates show minimal gaps among top DPS.โ
| Job Type | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|
| Melee DPS (SAM, RPR) | Burst, mobility | Vulnerable to heavy debuffs โ |
| Ranged/Casters (MCH, RDM, SMN) | Sustained damage, utility | Castbar interruptions โโ |
| Healers/Tanks | Survival | Slow kills โโ |
