Guides

Roses aren’t the only thing blooming this February-Niantic’s Valentine’s Day 2023 event fills Pokémon Go with pink-themed encounters, sweet bonuses, and new costume Pokémon that promise to make every trainer’s heart skip a beat.

During this event, you can also transform your Furfrou to a Heart Trim, if you so desire. As of this event, Shiny Furfrou can also be transformed into a Heart Trim form for the first time.

Notably, we finally have the shiny Frillish family added to the game, which you can find if you’re lucky.

Tapu Lele is also available shiny for the first time, as it makes its way back to tier-five raids.

We’ve listed out all of the spawns, Timed Research, Field Research, and more below.

Best Pokémon to catch during the event

During the Pokémon Go Valentine’s Day 2023 event, prioritize catching Pokémon with high PvP utility, shiny debut potential, raid attacker value, or exclusive moves. Frillish (both genders), Tapu Lele, and Alomomola stand out for their competitive relevance and rarity.

Shiny Hunting Targets

Frillish family and Tapu Lele debuted their shiny forms in the wild, raids, eggs, and research, making them top priorities at 1/64 odds during boosted spawns. Flabébé (all five flower colors) and Litleo also had elevated shiny rates. Region-locked Floette from 7km eggs offered unique shiny variants.

PvP and Raid Stars

Espurr (evolves to Meowstic) and Ralts (for Gardevoir/Gallade with event-exclusive Synchronoise) excelled in Great/Ultra League PvP. Alomomola from 1-star raids was a premier Water-type tank, while Chansey provided rare Blissey candy for gym defense. Mega Gardevoir from raids boosted top Fairy attackers long-term.

Quick Catch Priorities

Pokémon Why Catch Source
Frillish Shiny debut, PvP utility (Great League)
Tapu Lele Shiny Legendary, strong Fairy raid attacker
Espurr PvP meta (Ultra League Meowstic)
Alomomola Best Water tank, rare raid reward
Ralts Synchronoise evolutions for PvP/raids

Focus on wild pink spawns and Field Research for efficiency, as Lure Modules lasted 2 hours.

Where to find the most dark and fairy Pokémon spawns

During the Pokémon Go Valentine’s Day 2023 event, Dark-type spawns were absent, as it was a pink/Fairy-themed event with no boosted Dark Pokémon reported. Focus instead on Fairy-types (and pink variants) in wild encounters, which were the event’s highlight for high-density spawns.

Best Spawn Locations

High-traffic urban parks, shopping plazas, or anywhere with many PokéStops drew the densest event spawns like Flabébé, Frillish, Litleo, Nidoran lines, and Espurr-activate 2-hour Lures to maximize them.

Top Fairy Targets

Prioritize Frillish (wild/research/eggs, shiny debut), Flabébé (all flower colors, regional shiny potential), Ralts (research, evolves to Synchronoise Gardevoir/Gallade), and Tapu Lele (5-star raids, shiny Legendary). These offered PvP value, shinies, and rarity amid boosted pink spawns.
