Hunting for novacrystals in Monster Hunter Wilds is a quest every High Rank hunter must embark on to forge some of the game’s most powerful weapons and armor. These rare, shimmering crystals can be mined from outcrops scattered across all major regions-from the Windward Plains to the mysterious Ruins of Wyveria. Whether you prefer exploring vast mining sites or taking down the elusive Gypceros for a chance at a drop, mastering where and how to find novacrystals will elevate your gear and your game.
Our Monster Hunter Wilds guide will tell you where to find novacrystals and how to collect them.
Where to find novacrystals in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, novacrystals are a rare and valuable crafting material primarily found in High Rank areas. Players can collect novacrystals by mining from Mining Outcrops, which appear as blue crystal icons on the map, located across various regions such as Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria. Each outcrop can be mined three times before depleting and typically refreshes after about 15 minutes. To efficiently gather novacrystals, players often rotate between multiple mining spots. Additionally, hunting and breaking parts of the High Rank monster Gypceros offers a chance to obtain novacrystals as rewards. Using the map filters to highlight mining outcrops and setting waypoints can help streamline the farming process.
Novacrystals come from the mining outcrops that you can find everywhere. You’ll find them in Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria – every region in the game.
Mining outcrops appear on your map with a blue icon. Open your map and hit right on the D-pad twice. Scroll down through the filter to look for mining outcrops, use left and right on the D-pad to scroll through the options, and set one as the waypoint for your seikret.
You can collect an item three times from each mining outcrop before it’s exhausted. Mining outcrops refresh every 15 minutes or so. Novacrystals are pretty rare, so you will probably have to check several mining outcrops to find some.
You also have a (small) chance of collecting a novacrystal when you destroy the crest of a Gypceros.
Finally, novacrystals are a (possible) reward for come High Rank hunts like:
- Hunting an HR Rey Dau in “When the Dust Settles .”
- Hunting an HR Nu Udra in “Sinister Sneer”
- Hunting an Arkveld in “The Chains of Life”
- Hunting an HR Ajarakan and a gravios in “Troublemakers”
- Hunting an HR Xu Uu and Guardian Ebony Odogaron in “The Struggle to Surive”
How to collect extra mining outcrop resources
To collect extra resources from mining outcrops in Monster Hunter Wilds, focus on farming during Mining Outcrop Upsurges, special events that cause more outcrop nodes to spawn and increase the chances of rare ores like Novacrystals appearing. Equip the Level 3 Geologist skill to double the amount of ore gathered per outcrop. Use the map’s filter feature to highlight all mining outcrops, set waypoints, and use your Seikret to travel efficiently between nodes. Each outcrop can be mined three times before depleting and will respawn after about 15 minutes, so cycling through multiple outcrops across different regions maximizes your yield.
In Monster Hunter Wilds armors, talismans, and decorations all give you skills. At level 3, the Geologist skill gets you one extra item from mining outcrops per time you interact with them.
Equipment like the Geology Charm talisman, Chainmail armor, and Geology Jeweldecorations all give you the Geologist skill. For mining outcrops, you only get a benefit at the third level of the skill, so you’ll need three pieces that give you the skill – like the Chainmail Headgear, Armor, and Gloves.
The Geologist skill also doesn’t add to the number of times you can collect something from a mining outcrop – you still only collect three times per visit. It does, however, increase the number of items you pull out with each time you hit Circle/B.
Want to discover the best spots to mine novacrystals in Monster Hunter Wilds
To mine novacrystals effectively in Monster Hunter Wilds, focus on High Rank mining outcrops scattered across all major regions: Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria. Key hotspots include:
-
Windward Plains: Zones 7, 9, and 17, especially near base camp and rock formations.
-
Scarlet Forest: Zone 8, which has the highest concentration of mining outcrops, ideal for setting up a pop-up camp nearby for efficient farming.
-
Oilwell Basin: Zones 4, 6, 13, and 17, with clusters of outcrops and camp spots for quick resource cycling.
-
Iceshard Cliffs: Zone 8, where outcrops form a circular path for continuous mining.
-
Ruins of Wyveria: Zone 1 near base camp and connecting paths to zone 2, though outcrops are more sparse here.
Mining outcrops can be harvested three times before depletion and refresh roughly every 15 minutes, so cycling through multiple nodes is essential. Additionally, breaking the head or wounds of the High Rank Gypceros monster offers a chance to obtain novacrystals as drops, though mining is generally more reliable.
Use your map’s filter to highlight mining outcrops (blue icons) to plan your route efficiently and maximize your novacrystal haul.
