Fortnite Kinetic Blade guide knock back players tips Chapter 4 Season 2

Guides

The Kinetic Blade isn’t just a flashy melee weapon-it’s a force that can send your opponents flying if you master its timing. Here’s how to strike, dash, and knock back players before they even know what hit them.

Where to find a Kinetic Blade location in Fortnite

The Kinetic Blade appears as floor loot or inside regular and rare chests across the Fortnite map in Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. Check the northwest area around Mega City, such as Jujutsu Crossing, for higher spawn chances on stands or ground drops. Its drop rate stays low, so open multiple containers quickly.โ€‹

Fortnite‘s new Kinetic Blade is a new Epic (purple) katana-like weapon. You’ll find them anywhere you can find weapons – chests, vaults, or just laying around on the ground – or you might find a Kinetic Blade on one of the new stands like in the image above.

Our recommendation is there is (usually) a pair of Kinetic Blades to the northwest of Mega City.

How to knock back players with the Kinetic Blade in Fortnite

The Kinetic Blade’s knockback ability can send enemies flying if timed correctly. Use the heavy attack by holding the primary fire button, then release it to perform a charged slash that launches opponents backward. Positioning is key-aim to strike enemies near ledges, rooftops, or storm edges to maximize the knockback effect. Mastering the timing between movement and charge ensures you maintain control while keeping your distance from counterattacks.

The Kinetic Blade has two attacks – a dash attack with L2/right-click and a knock back attack with R2/left-click. The dash attack launches you at (and through) your target – and you cover a surprising distance in the process. The knock back attack is a little more. personal.

How to perform the Dash Attack with Kinetic Blade

You use the Kinetic Blade’s Dash Attack with your aim/alt-fire input, not the normal swing.

Basic controls (default)

  • Keyboard & mouse: Right-click (or whatever you use for “aim/alt fire”) while holding the Kinetic Blade.

  • PlayStation: L2.

  • Xbox: LT.

  • Switch (Pro/Joy-Con): ZL.

How the Dash Attack works

  • Hold the aim/alt-fire button briefly to charge, then release to dash in the direction of your crosshair, dealing 60 damage if you hit a player.

  • You have 3 dash “charges”; each one recharges on a short cooldown, so you can chain them for mobility or to engage/escape.

  • Dashing negates fall damage while it’s active, so you can dash off high ground safely and cover a lot of distance.

Quick tips

  • Aim slightly upward before dashing to gain extra height and travel distance.

  • Use knockback slashes (shoot/primary fire) to push enemies away, then instantly close the gap again with a Dash Attack.

Best combos using Dash Attack after knockback

Here are some effective Kinetic Blade routes you can try after landing a knockback slash, using the Dash Attack to keep pressure or secure kills.

Simple follow-up routes

  • Knockback Slash โ†’ Immediate Dash Attack
After you launch them, flick your crosshair toward where they are flying and instantly Dash Attack. This is great at close range to keep them from healing or building.

  • Knockback Slash โ†’ Short wait โ†’ Dash Attack
If they’re flying a bit farther, delay a half-second, track their trajectory, then dash. This helps you catch players who try to land behind cover.

  • Knockback Slash โ†’ Dash Attack โ†’ Shotgun shot
Use the dash mainly to close distance, then swap to your shotgun mid-air or as you land for a burst of damage. This is one of the most consistent ways to confirm a kill off a knockback.

High-ground and mobility combos

  • Knockback Slash off high ground โ†’ Dash Attack to follow
From height, knock them off the edge, then Dash Attack down toward them. You stay safe from fall damage while they’re pressured and often exposed in the open.

  • Knockback Slash to create space โ†’ Turn and Dash Attack for reposition
Instead of chasing, use the knockback to push them away, then dash sideways or upward to gain height or a better angle. This is strong in build mode for quick layer changes.

Pressure and mix-up ideas

  • Double pressure: Knockback Slash โ†’ Chase with Dash Attack โ†’ Melee combo
Follow your knockback + dash with normal blade swings if you land very close to them. You either force panic builds or secure fast damage.

  • Escape bait: Knockback Slash โ†’ Fake chase โ†’ Dash to cover
Act like you’re going to chase, then dash to a nearby wall/box instead. While they expect you in their face, you’re actually healing or reloading in safety.

Practical tips

  • Aim where they will be, not where they are, since Dash Attack travels fast in a straight line.

  • Try to always keep at least one dash charge in reserve in case the chase goes wrong and you need to disengage.

  • In no-builds, prioritize knockback โ†’ dash โ†’ shotgun; in builds, think knockback โ†’ dash to height โ†’ edit/shotgun for safer finishes.
