Hunting for Sharp Fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds? These elusive materials are essential for crafting some of the earliest armor sets, but you won’t find them on the biggest beasts. Instead, your best bet is to track down specific small monsters like the 100%-drop Gajios in the Windward Plains or the plentiful Talioths and Piragills lurking in low-threat zones. Ready your weapons and follow our guide to farm these sharp-toothed foes efficiently across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox-your next upgrade awaits!
In this Monster Hunter Wilds guide, we’ll teach you where you can find a sharp fang in the Windward Plains map and what you can build with it.
How to get a sharp fang in Monster Hunter Wilds
To get a Sharp Fang in Monster Hunter Wilds, focus on hunting specific small monsters that reliably drop this material. The best monsters to farm Sharp Fangs from are Gajios, found in the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, which guarantee a Sharp Fang drop upon carving. Other good sources include Talioth in Windward Plains and Piragill in Scarlet Forest, though their Sharp Fang drops are not guaranteed. You can track these monsters on the map by filtering for their icons and setting waypoints to their locations. Once defeated, carve their bodies to collect Sharp Fangs. For High Rank farming, start a Low Rank optional quest, hunt these small monsters, and then return from the quest to keep the materials without completing the quest. Sharp Fangs are essential for crafting early Low Rank armor pieces like the Talioth Vambraces and Chatacabra Coil, making them valuable for progressing in the game.
There are several low-rank monsters that drop sharp fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds, although by the time you get to areas outside of the Windward Plains, you won’t need them as much.
Here are the monsters we’ve been able to confirm drop sharp fangs:
- Gajios (Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest)
- Talioth (Windward Plains)
- Piragill (Scarlet Forest)
- Kranodath (Oilwell Basin)
The Gajios are very easy to find early in the game, so we’ll focus on them (although the other monsters will appear on your map as little pink diamonds, so you can track them that way if you’re in another area).
Gajios are part-crocodile, part sawfish creatures that hang out in the rivers of the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest. Sharp fangs are also the only items in their low-rank loot pool, so you’re guaranteed to get one when you kill a Gajios. Look for them in the rivers of Area 8 and 10 in the Windward Plains and you should find several.
What can you craft with sharp fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Sharp Fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds are essential crafting materials primarily used to create early-game armor pieces. Notably, they are required for crafting the Talioth Vambraces, which grant the Leap of Faith skill allowing longer dive-evades, and the Chatacabra Coil, a waist armor that provides the Speed Eating skill to reduce potion consumption time. These fangs are obtained by hunting smaller monsters like Gajios, Talioths, and Piragills, making them a key resource for players aiming to enhance their defensive and utility gear early in the game.
There are two early armor pieces that you’re likely looking into crafting if you’re hunting for sharp fangs, the Talioth Vambraces and the Chatacabra Coil.
Both of these are low-rarity pieces that will give you a modest bump to your defense ahead of some of the more challenging monsters in Chapter 1 of the main story. The Chatacabra Coil specifically comes with some water resistance, which will be helpful when facing a Balahara in the Windward Plains or the most difficult fight in Chapter 1, the apex beast of the Scarlet Forest.
Once you have the sharp fang, you’ll need a Chatacabra Certificate (which you should have from the first story mission), as well as two Chatacabra Scales and a Chatacabra Jaw to build the Chatacabra Coil, the later of which you can get by breaking a Chatacabra’s face in te middle of a hung.
What secret locations hide the rarest Sharp Fangs in Wilds
The rarest Sharp Fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds are best farmed from the small monster Gajios, which guarantees a Sharp Fang drop when carved. The prime secret locations to find Gajios are the rivers in Area 8 and Area 10 of the Windward Plains, as well as parts of the Scarlet Forest. These crocodile-like creatures are your most reliable source for Sharp Fangs.
Other notable locations include:
-
Scarlet Forest for Piragills, which have about a 30% chance to drop Sharp Fangs.
-
Windward Plains for Talioths, which drop Sharp Fangs less consistently but are plentiful and easier to farm without large monster threats.
-
Oilwell Basin for Kranodath and Iceshard Cliffs or Ruins of Wyveria for Porkeplume and Guardian Seikret, which also drop Sharp Fangs with varying chances.
For efficient farming, focus on the Windward Plains’ rivers targeting Gajios for guaranteed Sharp Fangs, and supplement with Talioth and Piragill hunts in the Scarlet Forest and Windward Plains to maximize your haul.
Are there hidden areas where Gajios and Piragills spawn more often
There are no confirmed “hidden” or secret areas where Gajios and Piragills spawn more frequently beyond their known habitats. Gajios primarily spawn in the rivers of Area 8 and Area 10 in the Windward Plains, and Piragills are commonly found in the Scarlet Forest. These locations are well-established and do not have secret variants that increase spawn rates for these monsters.
However, monster spawns in Monster Hunter Wilds can be influenced by factors such as time of day, weather, and quest progression, but no specific hidden zones have been documented to boost Gajios or Piragill spawn rates beyond their usual areas.
For the best farming efficiency, focus on the known river areas in the Windward Plains for Gajios and the Scarlet Forest for Piragills rather than searching for secret spawn locations.
