Hytale Cobalt Find Guide: Ore Locations Farming Spots Uses

Guides

Skies thicken with snow as scouts quarry cobalt, tracing elusive veins through icy caverns and ancient frozen veins that hum with untold power.

How to get Cobalt in Hytale

Cobalt appears in the snowy biome, particularly on slopes of lightly snow-covered peaks in areas like Whisperfrost Frontiers. Mine exposed nodes on mountainsides or inside caves and underground sections of these zones, where veins mix with iron and copper. Surface mining stays safer than delving deep, avoiding yetis above ground and slippery ice below.

In Hytale, cobalt spawns in snowy biomes, which are part of Whisperfront Frontiers, the boreal zone. Look for snowy plains, mountains, and forests. If you open your map, the snow realm should look like this:

One of the best places to look for cobalt is on mountain slopes, as you can often spot deposits from a decent distance. Although the large mountains on the map (as pointed out by the two lower arrows) aren’t fully covered in snow, both offered plenty of cobalt. Just be careful not to fall!

While searching for cobalt in the snowy plains instead of the mountains, look for caves. There’s often some cobalt found at the entrance, with far more inside if you’re brave enough to descend. The upper left arrow on the map points to an example of such a cave entrance.

You don’t need any special equipment to obtain cobalt in Hytale; a crude pickaxe will suffice. Cobalt ore has a dark blue color, which might make it a bit harder to spot against a backdrop of grey stone compared to other types of ore, such as the bright green thorium.

Best pickaxe to mine cobalt ore

Iron Pickaxe suffices for mining cobalt ore in Hytale.

Minimum Requirement

Cobalt ore requires only basic tools, harvestable with a crude or iron pickaxe-no advanced tier needed, unlike harder ores. Any pickaxe works due to its low mining level in snowy biomes like Whisperfrost Frontiers.

Recommended Pickaxe

Iron pickaxes offer the best balance for efficiency without upgrades, as cobalt spawns exposed on cliffs and in caves. Upgrade to copper beforehand if starting out, but cobalt mining unlocks cobalt ingots for crafting superior cobalt pickaxes later.

How to upgrade iron pickaxe with obsidian sharpening kit

Iron pickaxes in Hytale can be upgraded using an obsidian sharpening kit at a tool forge or workstation, raising the mining level for better efficiency on ores like cobalt.

Crafting the Kit

Craft the obsidian sharpening kit by smelting obsidian into a cast at a smeltery, then combining it with a sharpening kit pattern-requires 288 mB of molten obsidian poured into a tool part cast alongside a blank pattern.

Upgrade Process

Place the iron pickaxe in the center of a Tool Station or Tool Forge. Add the obsidian sharpening kit to one slot and a piece of flint to another adjacent slot-this upgrades the mining level to obsidian (equivalent to cobalt-tier harvesting) without altering repair materials. The tool gains “fortified” status, boosting durability and speed; repeat only once per tool as it’s a single-use modifier.

Tips for Hytale

Prepare by mining obsidian in volcanic areas or caves first, then use the upgraded pick for Whisperfrost cobalt nodes. Repair afterward with iron to maintain low costs, avoiding full obsidian rebuilds.
