’The Apple of Her Eye’ walkthrough
“The Apple of Her Eye” side quest in Monster Hunter Wilds begins when Alma asks for help finding her lost glasses in the Scarlet Forest. Players start by speaking with Alma, then head to the Wudwud Hideout to gather information from a Wudwud named Thunk, who directs them to search downriver near Area 2. Following clues from various Wudwuds leads to discovering Ayejack, a sleeping Wudwud wearing Alma’s glasses. To retrieve the glasses, players must bring Eastern Honey to Ayejack. Completing this quest unlocks new customization options for Alma, including new glasses equipment that can be forged by Gemma. The quest requires Title Update 1 and is typically available after reaching Hunter Rank 24 and progressing through the main storyline.
We couldn’t test if this quest unlocks sooner, but we were able to complete “The Apple of Her Eye” at Hunter Rank 24 (after rolling credits on the series of main story quests and unlocking High Rank). Before you start, make sure you have downloaded and applied the Title Update 1 patch. (The game suggests restarting your console or platform if your game isn’t updated.)
Once those requirements are taken care of, you can initiate the side mission by talking to Alma. Here is the full walkthrough on how to complete this quest.
Go talk to Alma and she will tell you she lost her special glasses and you must investigate by talking to Wudwuds in the Scarlet Forest.
Follow the green quest marker and talk a Wudwud named Scampshroom in area two of the Scarlet Forest. This region is marked on the map and on the eastern side of the Scarlet Forest.) It will mention that “red good things” come here.
How to find a glasses-wearing Wudwud in Area 2
To find the glasses-wearing Wudwud in Area 2 for the “The Apple of Her Eye” quest in Monster Hunter Wilds, start by heading downriver in Area 2 of the Scarlet Forest, near an amber deposit. Look for a small alcove where a Wudwud is digging; this Wudwud wears Alma’s lost glasses but will run away when approached, triggering a cutscene. After spotting it, return to the Wudwud Hideout and speak with Thunk at the entrance. You’ll need to rest until night during a “Plenty” environment before continuing. Then, climb to the top of the hideout to gather information from the feasting Wudwuds about Ayejack, the glasses-wearing Wudwud who is sleeping below. Finally, find Ayejack sleeping in a hammock at the bottom floor of the hideout to progress the quest.
Next, the mission tells you to “Find a glasses-wearing Wudwud in Area 2.” If you follow the narrow path where you found Scampshroom East, there is a little rock alcove where an unnamed Wudwud is digging.
It can be hard to see the Wudwud at first because it’s dark and not marked, but you can see where it is below (it was next to an amber deposit for us). Walk up to it and a cut scene will play that will reveal it has Alma’s glasses, but it runs away.
Go back to the Wudwud hideout and the Wudwud Thunk (who is located at the entrance of the Wudwud Hideout) will tell you to visit during at night during a time of “plenty.”
Go inside a tent to rest until the festivities. This next step is important: Make sure you change the environment to “plenty” and the time to “nighttime” when you go to rest. It’ll cost 500 Guild Points to do this.
You need to climb some vines that will allow you to access another part of the Hideout. Go talk to Thunk again, he’ll tell you to “aim for up.” Walk past Thunk and towards the Wudwud named Musharpye, the item trader. Use the exit just beside the item trade, but as you exit, turn around. There will be vines leading up high into the tree. You can see an image of it below.
There will be a ton of Wudwud at the top celebrating by a large fire. Talk to at least four of them with information and they’ll tell you that Ayejack, the Wudwud who found the “red sparklies,” aka Alma’s glasses, is sleeping below.
Sleeping Ayejack location in ’The Apple of Her Eye’
Sleeping Ayejack can be found in the Wudwud Hideout in Monster Hunter Wilds during the side quest “The Apple of Her Eye.” He is sleeping in a leafy cocoon-like bed hanging from the ceiling on the bottom floor of the hideout, near the central tree inside the room below the bonfire area. Ayejack is recognizable by the red glasses he wears, which belong to Alma. To progress the quest, players must locate and speak to him, then provide Eastern Honey as a trade to retrieve the glasses.
Go back down to the main Hideout area where the Item Trader and Thunk were. You can find Ayejack sleeping in a little cocoon-like bed made of vines and leaves hanging from the ceiling. He is in a room adjacent to the Item Trader and you can see a few images of Ayejack’s location below.
When you wake Ayejack, the creature will request that you trade it Eastern honey for the glasses. If you don’t already have some, you can get Eastern honey from giant vigorwasps right in the Scarlet Forest. Once you have the item, Ayejack will give you the glasses back and you will unlock character customization for Alma in your tent.
What secrets does the Wudwud Hideout hold in this quest
The Wudwud Hideout in Monster Hunter Wilds holds several intriguing secrets that enrich the Scarlet Forest experience. It is a secluded settlement inhabited by the Wudwuds, a Lynian tribe with a unique culture and strong bond to their land. The hideout serves as a hub where hunters can access valuable NPC services such as item trading, material retrieval, and bonfire cooking, especially during the seasonal nighttime feasts known as the Plenty, where Wudwuds gather for a big feast and small item trades take place around the bonfire.
Additionally, the hideout features hidden spots accessible by scaling vines, where rare items can be found, adding a layer of exploration and reward for curious hunters. The Wudwud Hideout also plays a key role in quests like “The Apple of Her Eye,” where players interact with Wudwud NPCs to track down Alma’s lost glasses, culminating in locating the crafty glasses thief, Ayejack, who sleeps in a secret area beneath the hideout. This blend of cultural immersion, resource management, and quest interaction makes the Wudwud Hideout a vital and mysterious locale in Monster Hunter Wilds.
What rare items can I obtain from the Wudwud Hideout during the night feasts
During the Wudwud Feast at night in the season of Plenty, held at the Wudwud Hideout in Scarlet Forest, players can obtain rare items through small trades and gifts by interacting with the Wudwuds around the bonfire. Some rare rewards you can receive include:
-
Catalysts (x1-2)
-
Immunizers
-
Energy Drinks
-
Lifepowder (x3)
-
Well-Done Steaks (mass-produced by Chomber when given Raw Meat)
-
Charred Lizard
-
Rations
-
Shiny Treasure and occasionally Sparkly Treasure
-
Various crafting materials such as Droolshroom, Chaliceweed, Mandragora, and Machalite Ore
These items are obtained either by giving specific materials like mushrooms, monster tails, or monster parts to the Wudwuds or by trading requested items such as Godbug Essence, Fire Herb, or Iron Ore for local resources and ores. The feast is also a good opportunity to convert surplus monster parts into useful consumables, making it a valuable event for resource gathering and preparation for hunts.
