Pokémon Go December 2022 Community Day Timed Research Tasks and Guide

Trainers are in for a busy weekend as Pokémon Go’s December 2022 Community Day gathers fan-favorite Pokémon, exclusive moves, and special Timed Research tasks for one last big event of the year.

From 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on both days, the Community Day Pokémon will be spawning in large numbers, but perks like doubled XP and Stardust will only be active from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in your local time. In addition, specific Pokémon will spawn on each day from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., making it easier to find specific Pokémon you missed.

The shiny rate from 2-5 p.m. will be at the usual Community Day rate for the featured Pokémon, meaning it’s about a 1 in 25 chance to find a shiny. Just keep tapping the Pokémon you’re looking for a shiny of, and it’s bound to turn up. Make sure to use an Incense to boost your spawns as well.

Pokémon from the 2021 Community Day events will also be available in two km eggs and raids to help people catch up even more.

All of the Pokémon from both 2021 and 2022 will be able to learn their special Legacy moves when evolved during the event, with Ursaluna having a specific time slot.

December Community Day 2022 Timed Research and rewards

The December 2022 Community Day Timed Research offered players special tasks focused on Pokémon featured throughout the year. Completing these tasks granted encounters with past Community Day Pokémon, bonus items like Stardust and Ultra Balls, and evolution materials such as Sinnoh and Unova Stones. The research was available for a limited time during the event weekend, giving players another chance to catch and evolve Pokémon they might have missed from previous Community Days.

Featured Community Day Weekend Pokémon and dates

During the December 2022 Community Day Weekend, Pokémon GO highlighted returning Community Day stars from throughout the year. Trainers could encounter featured Pokémon such as Sandshrew, Alolan Sandshrew, Stufful, and others appearing more frequently in the wild. The event ran from Saturday, December 17, to Sunday, December 18, 2022, giving players two full days to catch, evolve, and earn special event bonuses tied to these Pokémon.

In addition to the spawns below, the three Pokémon from the Community Day Classic events (Bulbasaur, Dratini, and Mudkip) will be spawning on both days at a rarer rate.

December Community Day raid and 2 km egg Pokémon

December’s Community Day raids featured the return of Community Day Pokémon from 2021 and 2022, giving players another chance to catch those they missed. After defeating special four-star raids, the featured Pokémon appeared more frequently around the Gym for 30 minutes. During the event, 2 km eggs obtained from PokéStops included previous Community Day Pokémon such as Machop, Roselia, Swablu, and others, offering excellent chances for obtaining strong or shiny versions.

December 2022 Community Weekend special moves

During the December 2022 Community Weekend, featured Pokémon from past Community Days returned with their exclusive special moves available once again. Evolving any of these Pokémon during the event granted players access to their original event-exclusive attacks, giving a chance to fill gaps in collections or strengthen Pokémon for battles. This included powerful moves for popular species such as Charizard, Swampert, Gyarados, and others that had highlighted earlier Community Days.

When these Pokémon evolve on Dec. 17 or 18 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., they will learn a special move:

Note that Ursaring will only evolve during a special full moon, which Niantic said will occur at 2 p.m. on Dec. 17 until 6 a.m. on Dec. 18. The moon will also occur from 2-9 p.m. on Dec. 18.

December Community Day bonuses and perks

Trainers can enjoy a range of bonuses during December Community Day, including increased Stardust, XP, and Candy for catching Pokémon. Lure Modules and Incense will last longer, keeping spawns active throughout the event. Players can also benefit from bonus trades and reduced Stardust costs for trading, making it a great time to complete collections or find better IV Pokémon.

From 2-5 p.m. on both days, the following bonuses will be active:

• Catch XP doubled
• Catch Stardust doubled
• Catch candy doubled (XL included)
• Hatch distance for eggs put into Incubators during the above time halved
• Lures last for three hours
• Incense last for three house
