Where to find tracktail lizard locations in Monster Hunter Wilds

Tracktail Lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds are primarily found in the desert regions of the Windward Plains, with the best locations being Area 13 near the Oasis campsite and Area 11 close to where the rocks meet the sand dunes. These lizards often appear in pairs and can be spotted around the sandy dunes east and north of the Oasis. To capture them, players should equip a capture net and approach cautiously or sprint quickly to deploy the net when the reticle changes color. Using the Ghillie Mantle can help avoid startling these timid creatures, which tend to be more active during the day. Once captured, they can be turned in for Dareel’s Research Report side quest rewards.

To find a tracktail lizard, you’ll have to head to the desert areas of the Windward Plains. A good place for tracktail lizard locations is the Oasisin Area 13, which has its own pop-up camp location.

Look around the outskirts of the oasis, and you should see some – they usually travel in pairs – or scale some of the nearby dunes and look around.

If you’re struggling, they are found throughout this region of the Windward Plains, so alternatively, search aroundArea 11, where we found some between the rock formations and the tunes. They seem to be more active during the daytime, but we also spotted them at night.

How to catch a tracktail lizard

To catch a Tracktail Lizard in Monster Hunter Wilds, head to the desert areas of the Windward Plains, especially around the Oasis in Area 13, where these lizards are commonly found roaming in pairs. Equip the Capture Net from your item bar or radial menu, then approach the lizards cautiously, as they are timid and quick to flee. Using the Ghillie Mantle can help you get closer without startling them. When close enough, aim the net using the rectangular reticle until it changes color, then release it by pressing L2/LT to capture the lizard. If they escape or burrow into the sand, fast travel or rest to reset their spawn and try again.

Once you’ve spotted a (pair of) tracktail lizards, all that’s left is to capture them. Equip your capture net either from the item bar or from your Essential Items radial menu.

Make sure you approach slowly because tracktails are pretty skittish. Or you can just rush up quick and fire off the net. With the new rectangle reticle, approach the lizards slowly until the reticle turns yellow-orange and fire it. Just make sure you hit L2/LT and not the usual Square/X.

What makes the Oasis in Area 13 the best spot for Tracktail Lizards

The Oasis in Area 13 is considered the best spot for Tracktail Lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds because it offers a reliable and concentrated habitat where these elusive creatures frequently appear, often in pairs, near the water and surrounding sandy dunes. The oasis provides a natural environment that Tracktail Lizards prefer, making it easier to spot them sitting upright on their spiky tails or crawling along the banks. Additionally, Area 13 has its own pop-up camp, allowing hunters to rest and reset spawns conveniently, which is crucial since Tracktail Lizards can vanish quickly if disturbed or during sandstorms. This combination of frequent sightings, accessible terrain, and convenient camp location makes the Oasis in Area 13 the prime location for tracking and capturing these skittish lizards.
