You may want to snag some flair for cards, as doing so will help you complete the advanced missions for more Pack Hourglasses. (Though you should be able to complete the nine required missions without having to do this, as long as you do some other stuff instead.)

Below we explain what flair is and how it works in Pokémon TCG Pocket.

What is flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket is a cosmetic feature that allows players to add special visual effects to their cards, enhancing their appearance without affecting gameplay. These effects can include sparkles, bursts, or thematic animations related to the card’s type or rarity. There are two types of flair: Cosmetic, which is visible whenever the card is in play or displayed, and Battle flair, which shows a more impactful animation when the card is played during a match. To obtain flair, players need multiple duplicates of the same card and a currency called Shinedust. By sacrificing some duplicates and spending Shinedust, players can unlock and equip flair to personalize their decks and showcase their favorite cards with unique visual effects.

Flair is a cosmetic effect you can add to your cards once you get enough duplicates of the card. The flair differs depending on the rarity of the card, as well as the card’s theme.

For example, a regular ol’ two-diamond rarity Kirlia card has some sparkles and stars show up as flair options, but the one-star rarity full-art Mewtwo ex card has options for purple bursts and hexagons.

There are also two types of flair, one that adds an effect over the card called “cosmetic flair” (like shining stars or glitter, as shown with the Kirlia example above) and one that shows an effect when you play the card in a battle called “battle flair” (as shown with the Mewtwo card above).

How to get flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket

To get Flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you need to collect two main resources: Shinedust and duplicate copies of the card you want to enhance. You must have at least three copies of the same card, as some will be consumed to craft the Flair while keeping a minimum number for deck use. Shinedust, the in-game currency for crafting Flair, can be earned by obtaining duplicate cards, leveling up, completing missions, or participating in events. Once you have enough Shinedust and duplicates, go to the “My Cards” section, select the card, and tap “Obtain Flair” to unlock and apply various tiers of Flair, starting with the basic Sparkles Flair: Gold (Cosmetic). After crafting, you can equip Flair on your cards in decks, binders, or display boards to add visual effects without affecting gameplay.

To unlock flair for a card, select the card from the “my cards” page and tap the “obtain flair” button. You’ll be prompted with instructions that note you’ll need to exchange duplicate cards and Shinedust, a currency you get for getting duplicate cards.

Lower, diamond rarity cards have to unlock the first cosmetic flair option before you can unlock the battle options, whereas the higher, star rarity cards only have battle flair options.

Lower rarity cards require more duplicate cards and less Shinedust, whereas higher rarity cards, like the aforementioned Mewtwo ex, will only require one duplicate card but a whole ton of Shinedust.

There are also some exceptions:

  • The promo Pikachu card that you can get in the Premium shop does not require any duplicates in order to get flair for it. You just need to provide Shinedust.
  • 2-star trainer cards (like a full art Brock card) do not have any flair options for it. You can only use duplicates of these cards to get Special Shop Tickets, as of writing this.

Other than that, the flair costs are as follows. Note that you need this number of cards in addition to how many the game says you need to have leftover. For example, to trade your duplicate 2-diamond Kirlias for flair, you’ll need to trade two cards in and have two cards leftover to keep. This means you technically need four Kirlia cards to get the flair.

In Pokémon TCG Pocket, flair is a cosmetic feature that allows you to add special visual effects to your cards, making them more visually appealing without affecting gameplay. To obtain flair, you need to collect Shinedust, an in-game currency earned from unlocking cards, completing missions, and purchasing from the shop, as well as have multiple duplicates of the same card. Typically, you must have at least three copies of a card and spend some duplicates along with Shinedust to unlock different flair levels. Flair comes in two types: Cosmetic, which is always visible on the card, and Battle, which triggers a flashy effect when the card is played. You can equip flair by selecting the card in your collection or deck and applying the flair you have unlocked, adding a personalized sparkle to your favorite Pokémon cards.

How can I quickly earn flair for my Pokémon cards in Pocket TCG

To quickly earn flair for your Pokémon cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket, focus on these key steps:

  • Collect multiple duplicates of the same card-you need at least two extra copies beyond the one you want to flair.

  • Accumulate Shinedust, the special resource required to craft flair. You can earn Shinedust by unlocking cards, completing missions, and purchasing it in the Shop under Limited Time or Events sections.

  • Once you have enough duplicates and Shinedust, go to the “My Cards” section, select the card you want to enhance, and tap the “Obtain Flair” button. The cost and number of duplicates required vary by card rarity.

  • After crafting flair, equip it by adding the card to your deck, then editing the card to apply the flair.

This process lets you add cosmetic sparkle to your cards without affecting gameplay, making your deck visually stand out.

What’s the fastest way to gather duplicates for flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket

The fastest way to gather duplicates for flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket is primarily by opening booster packs, as duplicates mostly come down to luck when pulling cards. To speed up the process, you can:

  • Focus on opening as many booster packs as possible since duplicates are randomly obtained from these packs.

  • Complete missions, battles, and level up to earn Shinedust and additional card packs, increasing your chances of duplicates.

  • Use Pack Points earned from opening booster packs to buy more packs, further boosting duplicate acquisition.

  • Sort your collection by duplicates in the “My Cards” menu to identify which cards you have the most copies of and prioritize those for flair crafting.

Trading is planned for the future, which may provide another way to get duplicates, but currently, pack opening and mission rewards are the quickest methods.
