This pages explains how Gigantamax Pokémon work in Pokémon Go and how to get more Gigantamax Pokémon, plus includes the list of all confirmed Gigantamax Pokémon so far.
What are Gigantamax Pokémon?
Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go are special forms of Pokémon that not only grow larger like Dynamax Pokémon but also change their appearance and gain access to unique, powerful G-Max Moves. These Pokémon can learn up to three Max Moves, including a distinctive G-Max Move specific to their species, which often differs in type from their normal attacks. Gigantamax forms are encountered exclusively in Max Battles at Power Spots, where players must work together to defeat and then catch them. They represent some of the toughest challenges in the game, requiring strategy and teamwork to overcome.

Gigantamax Pokémon share many characteristics with Dynamax Pokémon, in that they are a separate form of Pokémon that are found in Max Battles. This means you cannot Gigantamax existing Pokémon in your collections, even if they are Dynamax Pokémon.
Found at Power Spots during certain periods, these higher tier encounters are some of the most challenging in Pokémon Go, requiring a large number of people to battle.
Once caught, Gigantamax Pokémon can be used in Max Battles, including against both Dynamax Pokémon and other Gigantamax Pokémon.
You can tell a Gigantamax Pokémon at a glance by the unique symbol in your collection, or the Pokémon’s stats screen, which has a “Gigantamax” drop-down below their weight, height, and typing information, as shown in the image above.
Similar to Dynamax Pokémon , as well as standard Fast and Charged moves, there will be three Max Moves to unlock, including a G-Max attack exclusive to that form.
How to get Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go
To get Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go, you need to participate in Max Battles at special locations called Power Spots. These battles pit you against powerful Gigantamax Pokémon, which are larger and have unique appearances and exclusive G-Max moves. You must first defeat the Gigantamax Pokémon in the Max Battle, which often requires a large team of players due to their difficulty. After winning, you have a limited number of Premier Balls to catch the Gigantamax Pokémon. Note that you cannot evolve regular or Dynamax Pokémon into Gigantamax forms; you must catch them directly from these Max Battles. Entering these battles costs 800 Max Particles, and you can use your own Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon to assist. Successfully catching a Gigantamax Pokémon adds it to your collection, allowing you to use it in future Max Battles.

At present, you can only get Gigantamax Pokémon from Max Battles – by first battling and then catching them in the subsequent catch phase.
Gigantamax Pokémon are considered ’six star’ encounters due to their difficulty, and as such, can be fought with up to 40 players at once (albeit with trainers split into teams of four, as shown in the above image). Even with the higher player count, be sure to bring your best counters at the highest levels to put up a decent fight, as reports from The Silph Road subreddit from the debut weekend suggests in some cases 20-30 trainers weren’t enough.
As with all Max Battles, only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon may be used in these encounters. Gigantamax battles also require Max Particles to enter, costing 800 MP upon completion (meaning, if you fail, you’ll be refunded the entry fee).
For those wanting a Max Particle top up, for the first two Gigantamax weekends (Oct. 26-27, and Oct. 31-Nov. 1), checking into a Gigantamax meet up arranged by a local Community Ambassador on the Campfire app will reward you with 800 Max Particles. It’s likely this reward will return for future weekends – so be sure to check in on Campfire ahead of time.
Gigantamax Pokémon will also only appear in Power Spots for a limited time, usually around weekends or special events. You can see the upcoming Gigantamax schedule at the end of this page.
Gigantamax battle rewards
Gigantamax battle rewards in Pokémon Go are earned by successfully defeating Gigantamax Pokémon in Max Battles, which are challenging six-star boss encounters typically requiring a group of players. Upon victory, players receive a guaranteed encounter with the Gigantamax Pokémon, along with valuable rewards such as Max Mushrooms, Max Particles, and Candy XL. These rewards help power up your team for future battles. Additionally, players earn Premier Balls to attempt catching the defeated Gigantamax Pokémon. Special events like Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day offer timed research tasks and bonuses, including increased Max Particle collection limits and special trades, enhancing the overall rewards and experience during these battles.
Once the encounter is complete, you’ll be rewarded the following:
- 25,000 XP
- Consumable items (including the likes of Golden Razz Berries and XL Candy)
- Premier Balls (used to catch the Gigantamax Pokémon you just fought)
As with Dynamax Max Battles, you can double the rewards – including the number of Premier Balls to be used in the subsequent catch phase – using PokéCoins.
And, similar to Dynamax Mx Battles, you’ll then be able to:
- You can place a Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon in the Power Spot, which will then assist others in their Max Battles for a limited time before returning to you. If this is a Gigantamax Pokémon, then there will be a chance Dynamax Pokémon can spawn around that Power Spot.
- The chance to catch the Gigantamax Pokémon you fought in the Max Battle, using the set number of Premier Balls offered, before it flees.

Want to discover the secret to catching powerful Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go
To catch powerful Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go, you need to first locate a Power Spot on your map where these special Max Battles occur. Then, team up with up to 40 players to defeat the Gigantamax Pokémon in a challenging Max Battle. After victory, you get a limited number of Premier Balls to catch the Gigantamax form. Remember, only Pokémon capable of Dynamax or Gigantamax can join these battles, and building up your Max Meter with fast attacks is key to triggering your own Gigantamax form during the fight. Successfully catching these rare giants grants you access to their unique G-Max moves, making them formidable assets in your lineup.
What’s the key to defeating Gigantamax Pokémon in Max Battles effectively
The key to defeating Gigantamax Pokémon in Max Battles effectively lies in thorough preparation, strong team composition, and strategic coordination. Assemble a squad of 10 to 40 players equipped with high-level counters that exploit the Gigantamax Pokémon’s type weaknesses-such as using Bug, Flying, Fire, Ice, or Poison-type moves against Gigantamax Rillaboom, a pure Grass-type. Communication within the team is crucial to coordinate attacking, shielding, and healing moves, maximizing damage while minimizing losses.
Additionally, powering up your Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon to at least level 40 and boosting their Max Moves, especially Max Spirit, significantly improves your chances, as these bosses hit hard and have high stamina. Employing a mix of tanky defenders to absorb damage and glass cannon attackers to deal heavy blows, while managing your Max Meter to trigger your own Gigantamax forms at optimal times, is an effective strategy. Overall, success depends on teamwork, exploiting type advantages, and smart use of shields and heals throughout the battle.
