Elsewhere, there are two sets of paid Timed Research you can pay to unlock – “Costume Party” and “Morpeko Onesie” – the latter offering a branching story and a triple catch Candy bonus, alongside a variety of costumed Pokémon encounters which can be found in both tickets.

Meanwhile, for all players, there’s the annual return of Spiritomb in the “Spiritomb Challenge” Timed Research. All in all, there’s plenty for free and paying players to sink their teeth into!


’Halloween Part 1’ Field Research Tasks

During Pokémon Go Halloween 2024 Part 1, players can engage in a variety of event-exclusive Field Research tasks available by spinning PokéStops. These tasks include catching Ghost or Dark-type Pokémon, evolving Pokémon, winning raids, and making curveball or nice throws. Completing these tasks rewards encounters with special Pokémon such as Witch Hat Pikachu, Halloween Vulpix, Halloween Piplup, Morpeko, Spiritomb, and others. The event also introduces Morpeko’s debut and features Dynamax Gastly in Max Battles, alongside bonuses like double catch candy and increased shiny spawn rates for Umbreon and Zorua. These Field Research tasks can be collected during the event and completed afterward, providing ample opportunity to earn unique rewards and encounters throughout the Halloween celebration running from October 22 to October 28, 2024.

You will encounter the following Field Research from spinning PokéStops. Though they can only be collected during event hours, you can keep them in your quest log and complete them at any time after the event ends:

  • Evolve 3 dark-type Pokemon (Sableye or Scraggy encounter)
  • Evolve 3 ghost-type Pokemon (Golett or Grevard encounter)
  • Win 2 Raids (Morpeko encounter)
  • Win 3 Raids (Spiritomb encounter)
  • Catch 10 ghost- or dark-type Pokemon (Nymble or Sandygast encounter)
  • Catch 15 ghost- or dark-type Pokemon (25 Mega Energy for Absol, Banette, Gengar, Houndoom, or Sableye)

’Halloween Part 1’ wild spawns

During the Pokémon Go Halloween 2024 Part 1 event, which runs from October 22 to October 28, players can expect a spooky lineup of wild spawns appearing more frequently. Key Pokémon include Zubat, Spinarak, Murkrow, Misdreavus, Shuppet, Drifloon, Purrloin, Zorua, Frillish, Litwick, and Greavard, with an increased chance to encounter shiny Zorua in the wild. Additionally, some trainers might be lucky enough to encounter rarer Pokémon like Sableye and Absol. This event also marks the debut of Morpeko, adding to the Halloween-themed excitement.

The following will spawn more frequently over the course of the event. All of these, bar Greavard, can be shiny:

The Pokémon Go Halloween 2024 Part 1 raid lineup features a spooky selection of raid bosses, including Sneasel, Sableye, Yamask, and Galarian Yamask in one-star raids, with Dynamax Gastly making its debut in these Max Battles. Additionally, three-star raids include Pokémon like Umbreon and Bombirdier, with Gengar appearing in Max Raids as well. Trainers can prepare their teams with strong counters such as Fairy-type Pokémon against Mega Sableye, and Ghost- and Dark-type attackers to efficiently handle the raid bosses. This lineup offers a mix of classic and new challenges, perfect for the Halloween theme running from October 22 to 28, 2024.

’Halloween Part 1’ event bonuses

During the Pokémon Go Halloween 2024 Part 1 event, players can enjoy several exciting bonuses from October 22 to 28. These include double Candy for catching Pokémon, with the possibility to triple Candy if players purchase the Morpeko Onesie Timed Research. There is also an increased chance for Trainers level 31 and above to receive Candy XL when catching Pokémon with Nice Throws or better. Additionally, the event boosts the shiny encounter rates for Umbreon in raids and Zorua in the wild. These bonuses enhance the spooky season experience, alongside new Pokémon debuts such as Morpeko and Dynamax Gastly, and special Timed Research tasks available for purchase.

The “Halloween Part 1” event runs between Thursday, Oct. 19, to Thursday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. local time.

As well as the above changes to spawns and Field Research, the following bonuses and changes are also in effect until the event ends:

  • Double catch Candy, which can be upgraded to triple catch Candy with the purchase of “Morpeko Onesie” Timed Research.
  • Increased chance of Candy XL for Nice Throws or better (for level 31 trainers and up only).
  • Increased chance of finding shiny Zorua (in the wild) and shiny Umbreon (in raids – a useful way to get the dark-type Eevee evolution).
  • The in-game map will have a Halloween makeover, with PokéStops adorned with pumpkins, and orange leaves coating green spaces and parks.
