How to get Max Particles in Pokemon Go, and what is MP?
Max Particles (MP) in Pokémon Go are a special resource used primarily to enter Max Battles at Power Spots and to unlock or upgrade Max Moves for Dynamax Pokémon. Players can collect Max Particles by visiting Power Spots-distinct purple locations on the map-where each visit grants 120 Max Particles, with a bonus for first-time interactions. Additionally, walking 2 km daily awards 300 Max Particles, and completing certain research tasks or purchasing them in the shop are other ways to obtain MP. There is a daily soft cap of 800 Max Particles that can be earned, and players can hold up to 1,500 MP at once. Max Particles are only consumed when successfully defeating a Max Battle boss, making them a valuable resource for battling and powering up Dynamax Pokémon.

Max Particles, or MP, is a currency you need to enter Max Battles found at Power Spots, as well as unlock and power up Max Moves.
You can get Max Particles in one of three ways:
- Interacting with Power Spots (100 MP per Power Spot per day, plus 20 MP if it’s your first visit)
- Walking (300 MP per 2 km)
- Purchasing Max Particle Packs from the in-game store (starting at 800 MP for 150 PokéCoins)
Niantic describes interacting with Power Spots as the “main source” for Max Particles, while the walking method is an added extra. Since you need Max Particles to enter Max Battles, it’ll be worth doing both methods to ensure you get the currency you need.
You can see how close you are to the next walking reward by tapping the radar in the lower right corner of the map screen, then selecting the Power Spot tab.
Note there is a daily cap to how much Max Particles you can claim each day, which we discuss in a section later on this page.
What are Power Spots in Pokémon Go, and how do they work?
Power Spots in Pokémon Go are special, temporary locations marked by glowing purple icons on the map where players can collect Max Particles and participate in Max Battles against Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon. These spots do not replace existing PokéStops or Gyms and typically last for a few days before relocating to new areas. Players can interact with each Power Spot once per day to collect Max Particles, which are essential for entering Max Battles and powering up Max Moves. Power Spots also serve as hubs for cooperative battles requiring multiple players and offer opportunities to station Pokémon that assist others and earn candy. Their dynamic nature encourages exploration and local player interaction.

Power Spots are a point of interest alongside PokéStops and Gyms, characterized by their tall, purple appearance and glowing orbs.
In the same way a Gym can host a Raid, Power Spots can host Max Battles, which is where you can fight Dynamax Pokémon. You can also place Dynamax Pokémon within a Power Spot after a Max Battle ends.
Power Spots are also where you can acquire Max Particles, in the same way you’d spin a PokéStop or Gym’s disc to get items. Once the Max Particles are absorbed, the orbs around the Power Spot disappear, indicating you have claimed their resources for that day.
It’s worth noting Power Stops do not replace PokéStops or Gyms, and from our experience, appear roughly in the middle of these other points of interest at the locations of businesses.
Furthermore, Power Spots will regularly change location, despawning every three to five days and then appearing elsewhere as a way to keep the map fresh.
You can see how long a given Power Spot has remaining on the map by tapping the Nearby menu in the lower right corner of the map screen, then selecting the Power Spot tab.
What is the Max Particles cap, and why is storage full?
The Max Particles cap in Pokémon Go refers to the maximum number of Max Particles a player can hold and collect daily. Currently, players can carry up to 1,000 Max Particles in storage, but there is a daily collection limit of 800 Max Particles from Power Spots and other sources. Once the storage is full, players cannot collect more Max Particles until they use some, which can be frustrating since Max Particles are required to participate in Max Battles and upgrade Dynamax Pokémon’s Max Moves. Unfortunately, increasing the storage capacity is not possible at this time, and the only way to free up space is by spending Max Particles in battles or upgrades.

On the feature’s debut, there is an overall Max Particle limit of 1,000 MP, with a daily cap of collecting 800 MP per day.
If you are at the limit and want to claim more MP that day, then you need to spend them, either by entering Max Battles, or unlocking and leveling up a Dynamax Pokémon’s Max Moves (which also requires spending Candy).
It’s worth noting you can technically exceed the daily 800 MP cap if you gather resources in the right order, such as by claiming one final walking reward or Power Spot source to take you over (for example, stopping at six Power Spots for 720 MP, then claiming the walking reward for 300 MP, to get 1,020 MP). Thanks for the community on The Silph Road subreddit for testing this out, and we’ll update this guide if the thresholds change over time.
You can see how many Max Particles you have overall by tapping the Nearby menu in the lower right corner of the map screen, then selecting the Power Spot tab. As part of a quality-of-life update on Sept. 17, 2024, tapping the total will also tell you how many more Max Particles you can collect for that day.
How to place Pokémon in Power Spots
After successfully completing a Max Battle at a Power Spot, you can place one of the Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon from your battle party at that Power Spot. This helps other players by strengthening the Power Spot’s Max Battle boss and provides you with rewards such as Candy and Candy XL. Each Power Spot can hold up to 40 Pokémon placed by different Trainers, and you can station a limited number of your own Pokémon across various Power Spots to assist future battles and earn additional benefits.

Similar to Gyms, Dynamax Pokémon can be placed in Power Spots if there is enough room, which provides a number of benefits:
- They can assist other Trainers in Max Battles, increasing their attack multiplier
- Increases the chances of wild (regular) Pokémon appearing around the Power Spot
- Placed Pokémon will earn Candy, which is rewarded to you when returned
You can place a Dynamax Pokémon in a Power Spot upon the completion of a successful Max Battle, and it will be returned after assisting in a certain number of Max Battles, or after the Power Spot closes.
Want to discover the secret to maximizing your Max Particles in Pokémon Go
Want to discover the secret to maximizing your Max Particles in Pokémon Go? The key lies in strategically visiting Power Spots and hitting your daily walking goals. Each Power Spot grants 120 Max Particles per visit, with a bonus for your first interaction of the day, while walking 2km nets you an additional 300 Max Particles. By combining visits to multiple Power Spots and completing your walking tasks, you can collect over 1,000 Max Particles daily-well above the usual 800 cap-powering up your Dynamax Pokémon to their fullest potential.
What’s the most efficient way to collect Max Particles daily in Pokémon Go
The most efficient way to collect Max Particles daily in Pokémon Go is to strategically interact with four different Power Spots and complete walking tasks totaling 4 kilometers. Each Power Spot visit grants 120 Max Particles, so four visits yield 480 Max Particles. Walking 2 kilometers earns 300 Max Particles, and walking an additional 2 kilometers grants another 300, bringing the total to 1,080 Max Particles per day-exceeding the usual 800 daily cap by leveraging the game’s mechanics before it restricts further collection. This method maximizes your daily haul without spending any Max Particles to free up storage.
