Town upgrades in Octopath Traveler 0 can transform a simple settlement into a thriving hub of trade and power. Here’s where to find each upgrade, how to trigger them, and the choices that shape your community’s future.

Where to find town upgrades in Octopath Traveler 0

Town upgrades in Octopath Traveler 0 appear as key items such as House and Establishment Blueprints, Recipe Books, Trade Goods Lists, Equipment Archives, Additional Smithy Recipes, and Seeds. Players obtain them by using Path Actions like Inquire, Scrutinize, or Contend on specific NPCs across locations including Theatropolis, Rippletide, Cragspear, Clearbrook, Sunshade, Shepherds Rock, Flamesgrace, Donescu, Sufrataljah, Grandport, and Atlasdam. Collect exclamation-marked items from collection points when directed by NPC info, and check Wishvale’s shop for purchases, as some spots lock after story progress.โ€‹

Town upgrades in Octopath Traveler 0 come in the form of key items you obtain from certain characters you interact with. The main upgrades you can find by talking to characters in the game are House and Establishment Blueprints, Recipe Books, List of Trade Goods, Equipment Archive, Additional Smithy Recipe, and Seeds.

While House and Establishment Blueprints unlock new styles for the buildings in town, Recipe Books will increase the variety of meals you can cook by using the hub. Lists of Trade Goods, Equipment Archives, and Additional Smithy Recipe affect the store, which begins to sell items from other regions and regularly receives batches of special items like seeds and animals. Seeds are used in your farm.

To obtain the upgrades, you must find the right character to use one of the Path Actions (Inquire, Purchase, or Contend) on to receive the key item that automatically upgrades one of the services available in town. You may get “Collection Point Info” from a few of them when using “Inquire.” This means the item will appear somewhere on the map (marked by an exclamation sign) for you to collect. In our experience, “Roberta of Rapture” in Donescu is the only character who requires you to use the “Contend” Path Action instead of the “Inquire” to earn her Recipe Book. There’s also a chance of finding these upgrades being sold in Wishvale’s store.

Be sure to interact with all the characters listed here as soon as you can, since there’s a point in the campaign where some locations are affected by the main events and some NPCs won’t be present anymore.

Below, you find the lists of all the upgrades we found during our playthrough with the name and location of each character.

Which town upgrades give the best gameplay benefits

Prioritizing Workshop and Smithy upgrades delivers the strongest gameplay benefits by enabling gear crafting and enhancements for better combat performance.
Trade Goods Lists and Equipment Archives expand shop inventories with superior items, reducing grinding needs.
Seeds for gardens provide self-sustaining resources like healing items.โ€‹

Top Priority Upgrades

Focus on these for immediate power spikes.

  • Workshop: Unlocks crafting of high-tier weapons/armor; essential for late-game bosses.โ€‹

  • Smithy Recipes: Improves gear quality and stats, boosting party damage/HP.โ€‹

  • Equipment Archives: Adds rare drops to vendors, saving exploration time.โ€‹

Resource Efficiency Picks

These sustain long playthroughs.

  • Garden Seeds (e.g., Lemon/Lettuce): Farm buffs and restoratives passively.โ€‹

  • Trade Goods Lists: Diversifies shop stock for consistent leaf/exp gains.โ€‹

  • Inn Expansions: Faster recoveries mean more battles per session.โ€‹

Strategic Order

Upgrade Workshop first post-Wishvale unlock, then Smithy/Archives before story locks NPCs.โ€‹
Housing Blueprints are lower priority, mainly cosmetic/utility.โ€‹

Which upgrades increase income or resource generation most

Garden Seeds provide the highest passive resource generation by enabling self-sustaining farms for leaves, ingredients, and buffs in Wishvale.
Trade Goods Lists boost shop income through expanded inventories and higher-value sales.
These outperform others like Equipment Archives, which focus more on gear than direct currency gains.โ€‹

Best Income Boosters

Prioritize these for maximum leaves (main currency) and materials.

  • Garden Seeds (e.g., Lemon, Lettuce from Rippletide/Sunshade NPCs): Yield restorative items and leaves over time, scaling with multiple plots.โ€‹

  • Trade Goods Lists (e.g., Grandport/Rippletide lists): Add rare goods to vendors for consistent sales profit.โ€‹

  • Recipe Books: Unlock cooking for sellable high-value meals, supplementing farm output.โ€‹

Secondary Generators

These enhance efficiency indirectly.

  • Inn Expansions: Increase overnight leaf payouts from rested party members.โ€‹

  • Workshop Enhancements: Craft sellable gear, though better for combat than pure income.โ€‹

Optimization Tips

Plant diverse seeds early for compound growth; combine with Trade Lists before late-game locks.โ€‹
Housing Blueprints offer minimal returns, prioritizing aesthetics over resources.โ€‹
