Hidden deep within the Gerudo Highlands, the Pupunke Shrine challenges your control over time and precision. This guide explains how to reach the shrine, solve its tricky mechanism puzzles, and claim every reward waiting inside.
When you’re done, our shrine locations page or interactive Hyrule map can direct you toward something else to do.
Pupunke Shrine location
Pupunke Shrine is located in the Faron region, east of the Sarjon Woods and southwest of the Lakeside Stable. You can spot its entrance tucked into a rocky hillside near the Floria River, not far from the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower. Gliding from the tower or following the river’s edge from the stable provides the easiest route to reach the shrine safely.
Pupunke Shrine is found within the Great Hyrule Forest region, specifically the Korok Forest. It’s exact location is (0619, 2211, 0164).
To reach the Korok Forest, you’ll have to first visit Musanokir Shrine (via the Depths) and then get rid of the gloom infecting the Great Deku Tree.
Once the Koroks are happy again, you’ll have access to three additional shrines – Ninjis, Pupunke, and Sakunbomar. Each has its own shrine quest associated with it.
To start Pupunke’s shrine quest, “A Pretty Stone and Five Golden Apples,” you’ll have to speak with Damia at (0563, 2160, 0159). From the center of Korok Forest, head east and then northeast along the path of glowing plants. You’ll find Damia standing next to a shrine crystal.
A Pretty Stone and Five Golden Apples shrine quest walkthrough
After starting the “A Pretty Stone and Five Golden Apples” quest in Faron, speak with the Zonai researcher near Riogok Shrine to learn about the offering needed for the Pupunke Shrine. Gather five golden apples from trees around the region, then place them beside the glowing stone at the marked spot in the forest. Once all five apples are offered, the Pupunke Shrine will appear nearby. Enter the shrine to complete a Rauru’s Blessing puzzle and claim the reward chest inside.

Damia will ask you for five golden apples in exchange for the shrine crystal and point you to the nearby Mido Swamp.

Follow the path of glowing plants northeast. You’ll have to fight your way past some Evermeans, Stalkoblins, Stalmoblins, a Shock Like, and a Wizzrobe, and navigate a bottomless bog. Eventually, you’ll come to a small orchard (can it be an orchard with only two trees?) where you can collect your golden apples.

Even easier (and a bit safer), head to Sonapan Shrine on Satori Mountain. There’s a much larger apple orchard just outside of the shrine where you’re likely to collect (more than five) golden apples without worrying about getting lost in the fog.

Once you have your five golden apples, head back to Damia to claim the crystal. Carry it just a little north along the path to find Pupunke Shrine and complete “A Pretty Stone and Five Golden Apples” shrine quest.
Pupunke Shrine walkthrough
The Pupunke Shrine challenges players with a series of puzzles centered on precise timing and movement. Use Recall and Ultrahand to maneuver platforms and manipulate objects to reach higher ledges. Activate the nearby mechanisms to align the floating structures correctly, then glide across to access the main chamber. After solving the final puzzle involving rotating blocks, the shrine’s chest becomes accessible, granting a useful item before claiming the Light of Blessing.
How to unlock Korok Forest to access Pupunke Shrine
Accessing Korok Forest
Korok Forest lies in the Great Hyrule Forest region, blocked by Gloom damage from the corrupted Great Deku Tree, preventing safe access to Pupunke Shrine and other areas. To unlock it, enter via Minci Woods Chasm south of the forest, navigate the Depths to the roots beneath the Great Deku Tree, and use Ascend to surface inside.โโ
Clearing the Gloom
Defeat the boss beneath the Great Deku Tree-after navigating the Depths path marked by roots and light roots, you’ll fight a pair of Gloom Hands followed by the Deku Tree’s corrupted guardian. Use environmental fire sources or Sundelions (found nearby in the Depths or surface orchards) to counter Gloom damage during the fight; arrows and melee attacks work well on the hands and boss. Once defeated, the Gloom lifts, allowing Koroks to resume normal activities and revealing paths to shrines like Pupunke (east via Musanokir Shrine).โโ
Post-Clearance Path to Pupunke
Teleport to Musanokir Shrine at Korok Forest’s center (coordinates around 0560, 2190, 0150), then head northeast along glowing plant paths past minor enemies to find Damia at 0563, 2160, 0159 for the shrine quest. This clears Mido Swamp trails to Pupunke Shrine at 0620, 2211, 0164.โ
Steps to remove the Gloom in the Depths to free Korok Forest
Preparation for Depths Dive
Prepare gloom-resistant meals using Sundelions (found in surface orchards or Depths light areas) to heal hearts during the encounter; stock 8-10 Bomb Flowers, arrows, strong weapons, and shields. Activate Musanokir Shrine upon surfacing in Korok Forest for fast travel.โ
Entering Deku Tree Chasm
Approach the corrupted Great Deku Tree at Korok Forest’s center, climb inside via branches, and locate the Deku Tree Chasm at the back of Korok quarters. Jump in to enter the enclosed Depths area beneath its roots, near Rikonasum Lightroot above.โ
Defeating Gloom Hands
Gloom Hands spawn immediately-stay on safe platforms or glide above to avoid ground gloom. Fuse Bomb Flowers to arrows and shoot the center to hit multiple hands (8-10 shots eliminate all five); repeat waves until Phantom Ganon appears.โ
Defeating Phantom Ganon
Phantom Ganon wields a Gloom Sword-dodge charges, parry with shields for Flurry Rush, or use bomb arrows for damage. Maintain gloom resistance; upon defeat, gloom clears from Korok Forest, restoring the Deku Tree and Koroks.โ
