A mysterious sickness spreads through Hateno Village, and the cure lies in a comforting bowl of porridge. Here’s how to cook the Gloom-borne Illness dish in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom-and bring warmth and health back to the villagers.
Here, we’ll cover how to complete the quest, including how to make the Sunny Veggie Porridge and where to get each ingredient, including “wild greens.”
How to start the ‘Gloom-borne Illness’ quest
You can begin the “Gloom-borne Illness” quest by heading to Kakariko Village and visiting the village’s main cooking area near the inn. There, you’ll find Lasli, who is worried about her grandmother’s strange sickness caused by gloom. Speak with her to learn about the condition and the ingredients needed to make a special porridge that can help. This conversation officially starts the quest and sets you on the path to gather the items for the cure.
First, head toKakariko Village in the south-east of Hyrule. If you haven’t been there yet, its coordinates are (1845, -0969, 0115).

Once in the village, head to the armor shop and talk to Claree (the woman behind the counter).

She will tell you that because her grandmother is so ill, she has to charge eye-watering prices for her gear. Sounds like pandemic profiteering and we don’t stand for that. But, we want her armor so we can and will help her.
Claree tells you to find her sister Lasli – she’s just up the slope from the armor shop, sitting outside her grandmother’s house muttering to herself about porridge.
Sunny Veggie Porridge ingredients
Sunny Veggie Porridge calls for one Hylian rice, one Sundelion, and one carrot or Swift Carrot. Mix these with water or milk at a cooking pot. Sundelions counteract gloom damage from Gloom-borne Illness, while rice and veggies restore hearts. This simple recipe clears the status effect fast.
Porridge, it seems, is the only thing her grandmother will eat. To make Sunny Veggie Porridge in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you need:
- Hylian rice
- Fresh milk
- ‘Wild greens’ (sundelion)

Though ‘wild greens’ is a vague category, you specifically need the sundelion and its gloom resistant properties to make the porridge work.

Let’s run through how to source them one-by-one.
Hylian rice locations
Hylian rice appears when cutting tall grass around Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower at coordinates 2419, -2762, 0222, or near Hateno Village and its grazing fields. Purchase it for 12 rupees at general stores in Zora’s Domain, Hateno Village, Korok Forest, Gerudo Town, or from Beedle at Riverside Stable. Slicing grass in East Necluda, especially toward Lurelin Village, yields the highest drop rate.โ
Hylian rice can be found between Kakariko Village and Hateno Village, but rather than looking for them in the wild, you can buy them from Hateno Village’s General Store (3356, -2517, 0018).

We need to head there anyway, so make life easy for yourself and spend the 12 Rupees.

Fresh milk locations
Fresh milk can be found in several areas across Hyrule, and it’s easiest to get from Hateno Village or the Tabantha region. Merchants in Hateno often sell it directly, while some villages receive it through trade routes connected to the dairy farmers nearby. You can also buy it from traveling merchants or from the stockpot inns that serve local produce. Keep a few bottles in your inventory for recipes like the Gloom-borne Illness porridge, since the ingredient can be scarce in certain regions.
Like the Hylian Rice, you can buy fresh milk at Hateno Village’s General Store. It’s another 12 Rupees, but you’re not about to go and milk a cow yourself are you?

How to get ‘wild greens’
Sundelions serve as the wild greens needed for the porridge. These bright yellow star-shaped flowers with black outlines grow on sky islands, where sunlight bathes high-altitude spots, and they glow faintly at night for easier spotting. Launch from a skyview tower like Lindor’s Brow, then glide to islands near coordinates such as -2184, 0966, 1637 to gather them amid grass or trees. A few suffice to cook with Hylian rice and fresh milk at any pot.โ
The ‘wild greens’ are, in fact, sundelion. Chances are you’ll have a few sundelion on you but if you’re missing some, you can find them in Hyrule Field and Eldin Canyon, or most commonly up in the Sky Islands. Our guide on where to get wild greens can help.

‘Gloom-borne Illness’ quest rewards
Completing the “Gloom-borne Illness” quest rewards players with several useful items that enhance survival in gloom-affected areas. After delivering the porridge to the ailing character, you receive a bowl of Sunny Veggie Porridge, which restores hearts lost to gloom, along with a few basic ingredients to craft more servings. These rewards help prepare you for future encounters with corrupted regions and support continued exploration across Hyrule.
Once you have all of the above, combine them to make the sunny veggie porridge.

Now head back to Lasli and give her the porridge. Her gran is suspiciously much better after a single bite – something Claree comments on.
Lasli will give you a bowl of energizing veggie porridge for your trouble, while Claree has the good grace to reverse her price hike and sell you her armor – the Steath armor set and Radiant Set – at a still costly but far more reasonable price of 1800 and 2400 rupees total respectively.
Where to find Sundelion locations quickly
Sundelions grow abundantly on Sky Islands in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, making these the fastest spots for quick collection.โ
Top Quick Locations
Launch from Skyview Towers and glide to these areas for 10-25 Sundelions per visit:
-
South Eldin Sky Archipelago (near Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower at 1637, 1184, 0225 or Kadaunar Shrine): Multiple small islands connected by rails yield 13-15 flowers.โ
-
North Necluda Sky Archipelago (east of Great Sky Island near Josiu Shrine): Reliable cluster on sunny edges.โ
-
East Gerudo Sky Archipelago (near Rakashog Shrine or Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower): Use Zonai gliders or rockets for access.โ
-
Courage Island (-2212, 0955, 1637): Glide from Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower or Taunhiy Shrine for a small but dense patch.โ
Farming Tips
They respawn after a few in-game days away from the area, so rotate Sky Islands and use Sensor+ (unlocked via Hateno Lab upgrades) after photographing one to detect nearby flowers. Build Zonai flying machines for efficient travel between islands.โ
Best Sky Islands for Sundelion farming
South Eldin Sky Archipelago stands out as the top spot for Sundelion farming in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with 13-25 flowers across connected islands.โ
Prime Farming Routes
Rotate these Sky Islands for maximum yield, as Sundelions respawn after a few in-game days:
-
South Eldin Sky Archipelago (near Kadaunar Shrine, coords 1637, 1184, 0225): 18-25 Sundelions on rails-linked islands; access via Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower.โ
-
North Necluda Sky Archipelago (Josiu Shrine): 7-18 flowers on sunny platforms; launch from Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower.โ
-
Sokkala Sky Archipelago (Natak Shrine): 6-8 Sundelions; paraglide south from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower.โ
Efficient Access
Fast-travel to shrines like Kadaunar or Josiu, then use Zonai rails, wings, or rockets for quick hops between clusters. Pair with Sensor+ upgrade for auto-detection after registering one in the Purah Pad.โ
