Sunlight burning your skin, townsfolk recoiling in fear, and an unquenchable thirst for blood-being a vampire in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is as much a curse as it is a power trip. But if you’re ready to trade your fangs for freedom, there are secret rituals, rare ingredients, and hidden sanctuaries that can restore your humanity-if you know where to look. Here’s how to reclaim the daylight and cure vampirism on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
After you’ve been hit by a vampire, there’s a chance you’ll gain the disease Porphyric Hemophilia, which will drain your fatigue and eventually turn you into a vampire. If you can cure the disease within three days (72 hours of in-game time), you can stop the vampire-turning process, but if not, you’ll turn into a vampire after the next time you rest.
Becoming a vampire does have its perks – you’ll acquire a lot of bonuses like resistances, skills, attributes, and abilities – but you won’t be able to step outside during the day.
If the vampire life is not for you, here’s how to cure vampirism in Oblivion Remastered.
How to cure vampirism in Oblivion Remastered
Curing vampirism in Oblivion Remastered can be done in several ways, depending on how far the disease has progressed. If you act within 72 in-game hours of contracting Porphyric Hemophilia (the disease that leads to vampirism), you can simply cure it like any other disease-by using a Cure Disease potion, eating Mandrake Root, casting a Cure Disease spell, or praying at a chapel or wayshrine. However, if you have already transformed into a full vampire, you’ll need to pursue more involved solutions. The fastest method is to visit the Font of Renewal in Deepscorn Hollow, which instantly cures vampirism and is available in the base game of the remaster. Alternatively, you can undertake the lengthy “Vampire Cure” quest, which begins by speaking to Raminus Polus at the Arcane University in the Imperial City. This quest will send you on a journey to gather rare ingredients and consult with key NPCs before you can finally be cured. Once cured, you cannot become a vampire again in that playthrough, so be sure of your decision before proceeding.
Before curing vampirism, you’ll need to make sure you’re actually a vampire. Open your “Character” tab and press the button for “Show Active Effects” or open the “Magic” tab and switch to the tab with the skull image. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and check to see if you have a bunch of active effects as a result of vampire skills, attributes, or even just the vampirism effect.
Once you have those you’re free to start the quest of curing your vampirism. If you don’t have any of these yet, but have contracted Porphyric Hemophelia, you might still have time to cure the disease and prevent the turning process.
Additionally, if you cure your vampirism, you cannot become a vampire again without the use of mods or console commands. If you’re set on curing your vampirism, there are two ways to get rid of it:
- Completing the “Vampire Cure” quest
- Visiting the Font of Renewal.
We recommend to skip the “Vampire Cure” quest and head straight to the Font of Renewal. The quest can be a long and tedious process, while the Font of Renewal is easy to access and much faster.
Font of Renewal location
The Font of Renewal can be found at the Deepscorn Hollow, an island in the south eastern corner of the map. If you don’t have any map markers in its immediate vicinity, we recommend fast traveling to a map marker in Leyawiin and making the short trek to the island.
After you’ve stepped foot on the island, you’ll receive the “Deepscorn Hollow” quest, indicating you’re in the right place. If you set the quest as your active quest, the quest marker will point you towards some submerged ruins on the southern coast of the island, which might be confusing until you realize there is a hidden underwater entrance.
Dive in between the broken-down buildings to find a large log sticking out of the ground. On the opposite side of the log, you’ll find an opening and a secret door leading to an underground lair. However, you should know that the other side of the door is still underwater, so once you head inside, you’ll need to quickly resurface to gather your breath.
Once inside, enter the west door leading to the Deepscorn Cloister. Head down the stairs to the south to find the Font of Renewal, which looks like a stone pillar inside a pool of water. If you try to interact with the Font of Renewal now, it’ll tell you that you’re not carrying any purgeblood salts.
Luckily for you, in one of the corners of the room, you’ll find a Purgeblood Crystal Formation, which will provide you with one purgeblood salt. Take the salt to the Font of Renewal and interact with it to cure your vampirism.
How can I quickly cure vampirism in Oblivion Remastered on PC and consoles
If you want to cure vampirism quickly in Oblivion Remastered on PC or consoles, your method depends on how long you’ve been infected:
If it’s been less than 72 in-game hours since infection (Porphyric Hemophilia):
-
Use a Cure Disease potion, cast a Cure Disease spell, eat Mandrake Root or Shepherd’s Pie, or pray at a chapel altar or wayshrine. Any of these will remove the disease before it turns into full vampirism.
If more than 72 hours have passed and you are a full vampire:
-
The fastest method is to visit the Font of Renewal in Deepscorn Hollow. Interact with the font using Purge Blood Salts (found nearby) to instantly cure vampirism-no long quest required. This method works on all platforms and is much quicker than the traditional questline.
-
Alternatively, you can complete the “Vampire Cure” quest by speaking to Raminus Polus at the Arcane University. This quest involves several steps, including gathering Grand Soul Gems and visiting Melisande, and takes significantly longer.
Summary Table
Situation | Quickest Cure Method |
---|---|
Less than 72 hours infected | Cure Disease potion, spell, food, or chapel altar |
Full vampire (over 72 hours) | Font of Renewal in Deepscorn Hollow (with Purge Blood Salts) |
These methods work across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
