Genshin Impact Aranyaka Mysterious Clipboard Chest and Painting Locations in Sumeru Desert

Guides

Hidden among the Aranyaka’s buried chests, a cryptic clipboard whispers the location of its own secrets.

If you haven’t unlocked the Mysterious Clipboard yet, you can do so after completing “The World of Aranara” world quest at the mailbox below. After finding the first 10 chests, you can revisit the mailbox once per real-world day to get new hints to find five more optional chests.

We recommend completely finishing all of the “Aranyaka” world quest before digging these up, as many of them will be in areas locked by this quest progression.

Below we list out all the locations with map markers, but if you’re stuck, make sure to reference the Aranyaka quest item to look at the drawing hints included, too.

Update (Jan. 19, 2023): We’ve added information for chests #11-15, which includes the two new chests that were part of the patch 3.4 update.

Aranyaka buried chest #10

A hidden Aranyaka buried chest sits beneath a mossy overhang near a ruined arch, its rusty lock rattling faintly as you dust away the years to reveal the glow of its contents.

We’re actually going to start with treasure #10, because it’s not technically in Sumeru, and you may already have it if you were going hard in The Chasm. It’s in this lush cavern in The Chasm, which we marked the entrance to above. You will need this chest to complete the quest, so we recommend getting it out of the way first.

Aranyaka buried chest #1

The Aranyaka buried chests in Genshin Impact are scattered across several quiet groves and ruined sanctuaries, each marked by subtle clues and weathered glyphs that hint at hidden caches.

The version of Vanarana you need to be in is the version without the Aranara. You can swap which version of Vanarana you’re in by playing the harp at the small statue around the corner from the Statue of the Seven. (You will have done this at least once before to even have this quest.)

Aranyaka buried chest #2

Aranyaka buried chest #2 can be found near the clearing west of Vimara Village, close to a small hill surrounded by trees and stones. After reading the second clue on the Mysterious Clipboard, head to this area and search near the marked spot on your minimap. Use Elemental Sight to locate a faint glow, then use your character’s attack to unearth the buried chest. Inside, you’ll find valuable treasure and progress toward completing the Aranyaka chest series.

This chest, for some reason, clipped through the weather-changing mechanism for us.

Aranyaka buried chest #3

Chest #3 sits near the edge of the Yasna Monument area, west of the large clearing with several Ruin Machines. To reveal it, activate the nearby Dendro totem using a Dendro character, then follow the Seelie that appears. Once the Seelie reaches its court, the chest will surface from the ground, granting Primogems, Mora, and other treasure items tied to the Aranyaka quest chain.

This chest is underground. Teleporting to the Teleport Waypoint right above the star on the map will take you almost directly to it.

Aranyaka buried chest #4

Hidden beneath the old roots near the ruined arch, the Aranyaka buried chest #4 lies in wait, its weathered lid skimming the dirt as if listening for footsteps hidden in the grass.

Aranyaka buried chest #5

From the giant Ruin Guard near the Aranyaka clipboard, face southeast and glide down the slope to a small cave opening in the cliffside. Enter the cave and follow the path right to spot the buried chest marked by a glowing Dendro seal. Attack the seal to reveal it, then dig up the chest inside.

This chest is underground under the large rooted tree. You entered this cave previously to complete the “Starry Night Chapter” world quest.

Aranyaka buried chest #6

From the giant Aranyaka tree in the Aranyaka region, head northeast toward the cliff edge overlooking the water. The buried chest #6 sits near a small rock formation by the drop-off, marked by the Mysterious Clipboard. Dig it up after interacting with the board to claim rewards like Primogems and Mora.

Aranyaka buried chest #7

Chest #7 lies near the northern section of Devantaka Mountain, close to the enormous machine’s arm. Glide down from the nearby teleport waypoint and search by the mechanical hand embedded in the ground. Dig at the sparkling spot to unearth the chest and receive the final clue recorded on the Mysterious Clipboard.

This chest is in a cavern you can enter by going southeast of Vimara Village. You entered this cave previously to do the “Vimana Agama” world quest.

Aranyaka buried chest #8

Buried chest #8 can be found near the edge of the Mawtiyima Forest, just north of the Statue of The Seven. After clearing the nearby Withering Zone, follow the path that leads uphill toward a small clearing with a distinctive stone tablet. Use Dendro on the nearby cluster of roots to reveal the chest hidden beneath them. Open it to claim the rewards and complete this part of the Mysterious Clipboard task.

This is another cavern you needed to enter in order to complete “Vimana Agama.” If you teleport to the Teleport Waypoint to the right of the star marked above, it should take you almost directly in front of where the chest is.

Aranyaka buried chest #9

Aranyaka buried chest #9 lies near a small clearing west of Yasna Monument in the Sumeru rainforest. The chest is partly hidden beside a large tree root close to a ruined stone structure. Following the mysterious clipboard clue, players should investigate the bright patch of grass near the tree to dig it up. Expect a few hostile creatures nearby, so clearing them first makes collecting the rewards much easier.

The last “chest” is here, but it’s not really a chest.

If you haven’t been here yet, you’ll need to enter from the path that goes into the cliffs southeast of the star on the above map. You’ll also need to clear away Withering in this cave.

If you’ve already done this, you can teleport straight to the Teleport Waypoint below the star to head here quickly.

Once you’re here, the seed from the #10 chest will start shaking, and you’ll need to play the directed song on the Vintage Lyre gadget. Once you do, you can enter the cave, a cutscene will play, and “Static Views, Part 2” will complete.

You’ll be in a room with tons of treasure chests, but sadly, you probably won’t be able to open most of them. In order to open every chest in this room, you’ll need to find and help every single Aranara in Sumeru. It’s a daunting task, but if you’re up to the challenge, we recommend using a map tracking tool like the Genshin Impact Interactive Map.

Starting at chest #11, these are no longer tied to a world quest (that we know of). You don’t need to grab these for anything specific, but you’ll get the usual rewards (some world exploration percentage and some other loot) for digging up the chests and opening them.

Aranyaka buried chest #11

Aranyaka buried chest #11 is located west of Vimara Village, close to a small clearing surrounded by large roots and mushrooms. You’ll find a group of Hilichurls nearby guarding the area. After defeating them, dig near the marked spot on the ground to reveal the chest. Collect the rewards and make sure to check your Mysterious Clipboard to confirm the entry has been completed.

Use an Anemo ability on this sparkling pile of sand to unearth the chest.

Aranyaka buried chest #12

Head northeast from the Vanarana Tree King’s Dream waypoint to a small island in the water. Dig at the glowing spot near a tree stump and three Aranara statues. Defeat the Prithiva waveslipper guarding the chest that appears.

Again, use an Anemo ability to clear away the sand on top of this chest.

Aranyaka buried chest #13

Chest #13 can be found near the entrance to a small cave in the Mawtiyima Forest area. Follow the path leading southwest from the nearby teleport waypoint until you spot a pile of leaves covering a mound of dirt. Use a Pyro ability to clear the leaves, then dig at the marked spot to reveal the chest. Make sure you’ve progressed far enough in the Aranyaka questline for the Mysterious Clipboard to mark this location on your map.

One last time, use Anemo on this sand pile to get the chest. (We don’t know why this one got a marker and the above two didn’t.)

Aranyaka buried chest #14

Head northeast from Vanarana’s teleport waypoint to a small hill overlooking the river. Dig at the glowing spot beside a tree stump and three mushrooms. Use the Anemo power from the nearby Dendrogranum to clear Samachurl obstacles blocking the exact spot first.

Head into the temple at Safhe Shatranj and keep heading forward until you see a giant withered tree. The chest is buried at the base of this tree.

You can only enter this temple after getting to a certain point of “The Dirge of Bilqis” world quest line.

Aranyaka buried chest #15

Aranyaka buried chest #15 is located in the northern part of Vanarana, buried near a small cluster of glowing plants beside a moss-covered rock. Use Elemental Sight to spot faint digging marks on the ground, then interact with the spot to uncover the treasure. Players often pass this area while completing the Aranyaka questline, so make sure to check nearby terrain details carefully to avoid missing the chest.

Teleport to the “City of the Deceased” domain and head left from the domain entrance. Interact with the glittering rock pile to drop down into a hole, and then take the four-leaf sigils to fly up towards the green treasure chest, following the path until you find another hole. Head down this hole and you should find the dig spot past the Hydro slimes.

Aranyaka buried chests location map guide

Here’s a concise map-style guide to all Aranyaka “Mysterious Clipboard” buried chests (Static Views) with where to dig and what area they’re in.

How the buried chests work

  • The chests correspond to the 15 drawings in the Mysterious Clipboard section of the Aranyaka (Static Views quest line).

  • You must progress the Aranyaka quests (including Vimana Agama, Varuna Gatha, Agnihotra Sutra) and have most Sumeru waypoints unlocked to reach all spots.

Sumeru forest chests (1-9)

Use the in-game map, track the spots below, then look for a “Dig” prompt or loose dirt/rock pile at each location.

  1. Clipboard 1 – Vanarana, Statue of the Seven

    • Map: Vanarana (real world version).

How to access Varuna Contraption and Agnihotra Sutra areas for chests

You unlock and access the Varuna Contraption and Agnihotra Sutra areas simply by progressing the Aranyaka quest line in Sumeru; once those quests are done, all the chest areas stay permanently accessible.

Unlocking the quests

  • Make sure you have started Aranyaka in Sumeru (talk to the Aranara you meet near Gandharva Ville to begin Woodland Encounter / Dream Nursery).

  • After the early Aranyaka parts, you will automatically unlock the three big chains in Part 2: Varuna Gatha, Agnihotra Sutra, and Vimana Agama.

Accessing the Varuna Contraption area

  • The Varuna Contraption is in Apam Woods; both the surface and underground areas open as you progress the Varuna Gatha world quest (Irate Iron Chunk, Slumbering Roots, etc.).

  • Completing Varuna Gatha drains the local waters, repairs the mechanisms, and permanently opens the surface ring area and the underground cave near The Coordinates of Sun and Rain domain, which are where the Static Views/clipboard chests 2 and 3 are located.

Accessing the Agnihotra Sutra cave/garden

  • Agnihotra Sutra is another Aranyaka Part 2 quest chain that starts after Varuna Gatha becomes available; continue following the Aranyaka quest markers until you see Agnihotra Sutra: Starry Night Chapter begin.

  • During Agnihotra Sutra you unlock:

    • The large cave north of Gandharva Ville, used in several quest steps and later for a Mysterious Clipboard chest.

    • The Mawtiyima Forest “Aranara garden” where you clear Withering and repair a big Dendro flower; once the quest is done, you can freely teleport to the nearby waypoint and walk into the garden for the Static Views chest.

What to do if you’re stuck

  • If the Varuna Contraption or Agnihotra areas still look blocked (water too high, barriers, sealed flowers), check your Quest screen under World Quests and look for unfinished steps in Varuna Gatha or Agnihotra Sutra; finishing their objectives (repairing pillars, lowering water, cleansing tumors) is what actually opens the terrain.

  • Once both chains are fully cleared, you can reach all Aranyaka Mysterious Clipboard chests tied to those zones by teleporting to:

    • West Apam Woods waypoint (Varuna Contraption surface and underground).

    • Gandharva Ville Statue of the Seven (Agnihotra cave).

    • Northwest Mawtiyima Forest waypoint (Agnihotra garden).

If you tell me which specific waypoint you’re missing (Apam Woods, Gandharva cave, or Mawtiyima garden), I can give you the exact quest name and step you need to clear next.
