Destiny 2 Revision Zero Exotic Pulse Rifle How to Get and Upgrade

Guides

Revision Zero isn’t just another exotic pulse rifle – it’s a shape-shifting weapon that grows deadlier with every tweak you make. Between its swappable firing modes and deep upgrade paths, this gun turns every Guardian into their own weapons engineer.

But how do you get this incredible new pulse rifle? And how do you unlock all these different customization options? In this Destiny 2 guide, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about Revision Zero, its quest “The Hidden Shape,” and the “Operation: Seraph Shield” mission.

How do you get Revision Zero?

To get Revision Zero, players must complete the “Operation: Seraph’s Shield” mission, which becomes available during the Season of the Seraph questline. The mission sends Guardians into a Clovis Bray facility filled with security systems, puzzles, and waves of enemies. After completing it for the first time, players receive the exotic pulse rifle and can later revisit the mission on Legend difficulty to earn weapon catalysts and additional customization options.

Once you’ve quested through the first few weeks of Destiny 2: Season of the Seraph’s main story mission, “More Than a Weapon,” you’ll eventually be given “The Hidden Shape” Exotic quest from the Holoprojector. (There are two “Operation” missions prior to this Revision Zero Exotic quest, which you’ll need to complete first.)

Once you receive the quest, you’ll be able to jump into the “Operation: Seraph Shield” mission via the HELM, which will take you back to Earth and, eventually, up into space.

How do you complete ‘Operation: Seraph Shield’?

Launch Operation: Seraph’s Shield from the H.E.L.M. after picking up The Hidden Shape quest through the Season of the Seraph story. Sneak past laser towers on Earth, deploy your Ghost for markers, dodge security beams, and grab the Scanner Augment from a marked Fallen enemy to reveal scannable terminals that open paths forward. Pick up Operator and Suppressor Augments along the way to shoot red panels, suppress shielded bosses by hitting them under blue-glowing orbs, clear enemy waves including minibosses during space walks and ketch escapes, solve platforming puzzles, then upload the virus in the final Warsat nexus after defeating the main boss.

The beginning of “Operation: Seraph Shield” plays similarly to the prior “Operation” missions. You’ll be dropped in a field on Earth and you’ll need to sneak past the giant laser towers so they don’t snipe you. Just do what you’ve done the last few times in these missions and follow the quest marker, which will eventually take you to the launch center for the space elevators.

The mission itself is largely straightforward. However, if you get stuck, a tip: Try looking around the environment for small vents you can break and then crawl through.

In the few instances where you need to remember a yellow scannable object or path, we recommend either writing it down or playing with a friend. You can absolutely do this mission solo, but it’s more fun with at least two people (not to mention that the memory puzzles are easier when someone can keep the Scanner Augment and walk you through them).

Once you reach the end of “Operation: Seraph Shield,” you’ll upload the virus and a chest will spawn in the final room. Open it up to get a Deepsight Resonance version of the Revision Zero Exotic.

How do I craft Revision Zero in Destiny 2?

To craft Revision Zero, players need to complete the “Seraph’s Shield” Exotic mission available during the Season of the Seraph. This mission guides Guardians through a BrayTech orbital station filled with puzzles and combat encounters. Finishing it awards the base version of the pulse rifle, which can be enhanced through upgrades and catalysts earned from weekly mission variations and activities tied to the Exo Frame at the HELM.

“What now?” you might be asking yourself, newfound Exotic in-hand. Well, you should treat it like any other Deepsight Resonance weapon and either destroy it to get the pattern, or kill a bunch of enemies and extract the pattern the hard way. (If you need a refresher on how Destiny 2’s crafting system works, check out our guide.)

Once you have the pattern, head over to the Relic on Mars and craft a new Revision Zero. Note that you must Shape Revision Zero. If you Reshape, you’ll just waste materials. You won’t progress the quest until you make a brand-new one.

When you enter the crafting menu for Revision Zero, you’ll see what really makes this thing special.

The Intrinsic Perk is Hunter’s Trace, which allows the weapon to shoot through Anti-Barrier Shields and also causes it to generate data on headshots. Once you’ve collected enough data, you can hold the reload button to turn the Revision Zero pulse rifle into a full-on sniper. (How much data you have determines how many sniper shots you get, up to a max of three.)

The crafting menu also shows that you can upgrade Hunter’s Trace three additional times – to Hunter’s Trace 2, Hunter’s Trace 3, and Hunter’s Trace 4. Each of these levels will unlock a new customizable aspect of the gun, from secondary perks to barrel perks.

Once you reach Hunter’s Trace 2, you’ll be able to upgrade the Barrel Perks. The weapon starts with Corkscrew Rifling, but you’ll eventually be able to choose from the following:

  • Corkscrew Rifling
  • Extended Barrel
  • Chambered Compensator
  • Smallbore
  • AELGAMESal Rifling
  • Full Bore
  • Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Arrowhead Brake
  • Fluted Barrel

Unlike other crafted weapons, leveling up the gun by using it will only unlock new Magazine Perks for you to choose from the following:

  • Alloy Magazine
  • Appended Mag
  • Flared Magwell
  • Light Mag
  • Armor-Piercing Rounds
  • Extended Mag
  • High-Caliber Rounds
  • Ricochet Rounds

Once you have Hunter’s Trace 3, you’ll be able to select an additional perk to add to your Revision Zero. You’ll start with Moving Target, but will eventually be able to choose from the following:

  • Moving Target
  • Eye of the Storm
  • Perpetual Motion
  • Elemental Capacitor
  • Slickdraw
  • Vorpal Weapon

After you get Hunter’s Trace 4, you’ll finally be able to customize your Stock. You’ll start with Composite Stock, but you’ll eventually be able to choose from the following:

  • Composite Stock
  • Hand-Laid Stock
  • Fitted Stock
  • Short-Action Stock

Once you’ve chosen your perfect perks, Shape Revision Zero to build an Exotic that’s truly your own.

What about the Revision Zero Catalysts?

Revision Zero’s Catalysts add extra layers of customization and power, letting players tailor the weapon to their preferred style. Each Catalyst changes how the rifle behaves – one might boost headshot precision, another improves burst damage, and some enhance shield-breaking performance. Completing specific missions or challenges gradually upgrades these Catalysts, rewarding commitment with sharper performance and unique playstyle options that make Revision Zero stand out among Destiny 2’s exotics.

Revision Zero, like many Exotics, also has a Catalyst for you to acquire and upgrade, granting the gun a new perk. But for the first time in Destiny 2, this Exotic has multiple Catalysts to choose from – four, to be exact.

These Catalysts seem tied to the weekly “More Than a Weapon” mission, which will apparently make way for the “Should You Choose to Accept It, Part 1-4” missions. These are unfortunately time-gated (meaning you’ll need to come back each week), and none of the Catalysts are available at launch.

However, we already know what these Catalysts do, with each offering a different additional perk. Here are the Catalysts in the order you’ll be able to unlock them in the season:

  1. Frenzy Refit (Feeding Frenzy)
  2. Pressurized Refit (Under Pressure)
  3. Outlaw Refit (Outlaw)
  4. 4-Timer Refit (Fourth Time’s the Charm)

How to get the Feeding Frenzy Catalyst

To get the Feeding Frenzy Catalyst for Revision Zero, you must first complete the fourth step of the “More Than a Weapon” questline, which unlocks the “Should You Choose to Accept It, Part 1” mission. After that, replay the Operation: Seraph’s Shield mission on Legendary difficulty; finishing it grants the Feeding Frenzy Catalyst, which you can then apply to Revision Zero at the Enclave crafting station.

Bungie rolled out the first Catalyst quest for Revision Zero on Dec. 27: Feeding Frenzy.

You’ll get this Catalyst from the “Should You Choose To Accept It, Part 1” mission, which you can get from the Exo Frame after completing the fourth weekly step for “More Than a Weapon.”

The quest is a bit involved, and has a couple complex steps. First you’ll need to replay one of the preparatory “Operation: Seraph Shield” missions, which will take you to the Archimedes Annex. Once you finish that mission, you’ll need to land on Europa, which will prompt you to decrypt a Cipher.

To decrypt the Cipher, simply kill enemies or run patrols. Eventually, the game will send you into the Perdition Lost Sector, in Cadmus Ridge. At the end of the Lost Sector, to the left of the exit door, you’ll see a circular Cypher with the Hakke symbol on top of it. Interact with the node to continue the quest.

Once you interact with the Cypher you’ll be told to play Operation: Seraph’s Shield on the Legend difficulty. This can be pretty tough, but is something you can run either solo or in a fireteam – just know that it has the same difficulty level as The Witch Queen Legendary campaign. (It also scales to the size of your group, so don’t feel the need to party up.)

While on the mission, you’ll need to inspect an Exo body to get the Catalyst. Proceed through until you reach the room with the path along the floor and the three computer nodes above. Carefully make your way through the floor plates and activate all three monitors in the correct order. Once you’ve deactivated the traps, walk toward the exit door and look to your right. You’ll see an Exo sitting against the wall (as seen in the image above). Interact with it to progress the quest.

All you need to do now is finish “Operation: Seraph’s Shield” on Legendary. Once you’ve done that, you’ll unlock the Feeding Frenzy Catalyst, which will allow you to craft Feeding Frenzy onto Revision Zero. The best part here is that you don’t need to get a ton of kills or anything to activate the Catalyst like with most Exotics, and you’ll gain access to the perk immediately.

As of this writing, there are still three more Revision Zero Catalysts left, and each of them will come from a similar quest in the “Should You Choose To Accept It” line.

How to get the Under Pressure Catalyst

Complete Operation: Seraph Shield on Legendary difficulty through the “Should You Choose to Accept It, Part 2” quest from the Enclave. This grants the Pressurized Refit, letting you craft the Under Pressure perk onto Revision Zero at the Relic. Finish by shaping a new version of the rifle to slot the catalyst and gain improved stability and accuracy as the magazine depletes.

The second Catalyst for Revision Zero came the week of Jan. 2, and allows you to craft Under Pressure on the Exotic pulse rifle.

The process for getting the “Pressurized Refit” is very similar to the Frenzy Refit we walked you through above – although the Exo is much better hidden this time.

To start the quest, work your way through this week’s “More Than a Weapon” quest and then pick up the “Should You Choose To Accept It, Part 2” quest from the Exo Frame. Run the pre-Seraph Shield Operation and then land on the Moon. Here you’ll need to kill enemies and do patrols to decipher the Cipher. Eventually, you’ll get a quest to do the K1 Logistics Lost Sector in Archer’s Line. Go run it and then interact with the Cipher at the end to get the next step.

Like last week, you’ll now need to run the “Operation: Seraph Shield” on Legendary and find the hidden Exo inside.

Proceed through the mission until you get the Operator buff. Proceed until you’re forced to crawl through a ventilation shaft and use the Operator buff to open another door elsewhere in the level. Once you shoot the panel, continue through the vent rather than going back to where you started. You’ll see the Exo body lying in the corner. Interact with it to progress the quest, then finish “Operation: Seraph Shield” on Legendary.

Revision Zero best god roll and perk combinations

For Revision Zero, most players run separate “god rolls” for PvE and PvP. Here are strong, widely recommended setups based on community and guide consensus.

PvE god roll (Champions, bosses, endgame)

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake or Smallbore (Arrowhead if you want max recoil control, Smallbore for extra range + stability).

  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds (best blend of range + stability) or Armor-Piercing Rounds if you want more shield damage and pierce.

  • Trait (column): Vorpal Weapon (extra damage vs bosses and Champions, works on both primary and sniper mode).

  • Stock: Fitted Stock or Composite Stock (Fitted for max stability + recoil control, Composite for a small all-round bump).

  • Catalyst (Refit):

    • 4-Timer Refit for sustained boss/Champion damage via refunded sniper shots, or

    • Outlaw Refit for very fast reloads after precision kills in add-clear content.

If you want one “do-everything” PvE setup, run Arrowhead Brake / Ricochet Rounds / Vorpal Weapon / Fitted Stock with 4-Timer Refit in Light Burst mode for excellent control, Champion utility, and burst damage.

PvP god roll (Crucible, Trials)

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake (huge recoil direction boost, makes the bursts very straight and easy to track).

  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds (range + stability, also good for flinch) or High-Caliber Rounds if you really value extra flinch on targets.

  • Trait (column):

    • Perpetual Motion (very strong while strafing; stability, handling, and reload all go up), or

    • Eye of the Storm / Elemental Capacitor (if you prefer better dueling under pressure or subclass-tied stat boosts).

  • Stock: Short-Action Stock for snappy handling, or Fitted Stock if you prioritize maximum stability and recoil.

  • Catalyst (Refit): Pressurized Refit (better performance as the mag gets lower, very strong in duels) or 4-Timer if you lean on the sniper mode for picks.

A very popular PvP roll is Arrowhead Brake / Ricochet Rounds / Perpetual Motion / Short-Action Stock with Pressurized Refit, in Light Burst mode, to make Revision Zero feel as consistent and sticky as possible in mid-range fights.

Quick reference table

Mode Barrel Magazine Trait (column) Stock Catalyst (Refit)
PvE Arrowhead / Smallbore Ricochet or Armor-Piercing Vorpal Weapon Fitted / Composite 4-Timer or Outlaw
PvP Arrowhead Brake Ricochet or High-Cal Perpetual Motion / Eye of the Storm / Elemental Capacitor Short-Action / Fitted Pressurized or 4-Timer

If you tell me your main playlist (GMs, raids, Control, Trials, etc.), I can narrow this down to one “best” configuration and mode (2-burst vs 4-burst) for your use.

How to get Revision Zero Exotic Catalyst and craft it

To get all Revision Zero Exotic catalysts and use them, you need to both farm the mission that drops them and then apply them at the crafting station.

1. How to get the Revision Zero catalysts (current method)

  • Own Witch Queen and the Season of the Seraph content (or equivalent pack that grants access to Operation: Seraph’s Shield and the Exotic Mission Rotator).

  • Unlock and acquire Revision Zero itself by completing Operation: Seraph’s Shield once on Normal to get the Deepsight (red-border) version, then extract its pattern and craft it at The Enclave on Mars.

  • To get the catalysts now, run Operation: Seraph’s Shield on Legend/Expert difficulty from the Legends/Exotic Mission Rotator node; each clear awards one of the four Exotic catalyst “Refits”.

  • You need multiple Legend/Expert completions (effectively four clears if you own none yet) to obtain all four: Frenzy Refit, Pressurized Refit, Outlaw Refit, and 4-Timer Refit.

If you had Revision Zero back during Season of the Seraph and completed the old “Should You Choose to Accept It” quests, you keep your catalysts and do not need to re-earn them.

2. What each Exotic catalyst does

Each catalyst is a selectable Exotic perk in its own dedicated slot and only one can be active at a time.

  • Frenzy Refit: Adds a Frenzy/Feeding Frenzy-style effect (faster reload/handling and damage while in combat).

  • Pressurized Refit: Under Pressure-type bonus for better accuracy/stability as the magazine gets lower.

  • Outlaw Refit: Outlaw effect for much faster reloads after precision kills, very strong in add-clear.

  • 4-Timer Refit: Fourth Time’s the Charm-style effect that refunds rounds on rapid precision hits, massively boosting the sniper-mode uptime and sustained DPS.

3. How to craft and apply the catalysts

Once you’ve earned a catalyst from Seraph’s Shield/rotator runs, you have to slot it onto your crafted Revision Zero.

  • Go to The Enclave on Mars and interact with the Relic (weapon crafting station).

  • Choose Reshape (not Shape) and select your existing Revision Zero.

  • Scroll through the perk slots until you get to the Exotic catalyst slot (it appears as a special yellow-bordered slot near the end of the perk list).

  • Select the Refit you’ve unlocked (Frenzy, Pressurized, Outlaw, or 4-Timer) and apply it, paying the normal crafting materials cost.

  • Finalize the reshape; the chosen Refit is now active on that copy of Revision Zero and you can return here any time to swap to a different Refit you’ve unlocked.

You do not need kill-tracking progress in the traditional Exotic-catalyst sense anymore; once earned and slotted, each Refit works at full strength immediately.
