The Solstice 2024 event brings back the Something New hand cannon, and this year’s god roll versions turn it into a precision monster-whether you’re clearing adds in PvE or trading shots in PvP. Here’s what perks make it shine and why it might be the season’s sleeper hit.
In this Destiny 2 guide, we’ll go over how to get Something New and what perks we consider the “god roll” in both PvE and PvP.
Note: After August 27, Something New will be unavailable until at least Solstice 2025.
How to get Something New in 2024
This guide breaks down the best way to obtain Something New in Destiny 2’s Solstice 2024, covering the fastest paths, key perks to chase on the Something New hand cannon, and practical tips for both PvE and PvP to secure a strong god roll.
You can get Something New as a reward for completing the Bonfire Bash activity and earning Solstice packages. Basically, if you’re participating in the event at all, you’ll see multiple drops for Something New and all the other Solstice weapons.

Something New 2024 PvE God Roll
Something New’s 2024 PvE god roll turns this stasis hand cannon into a powerhouse for add clear and boss damage. Pairing Stats for All with One for All creates strong uptime on boosts to handling, reload speed, and stability while increasing overall damage after landing shots on multiple targets. Flared Magwell or Tactical Mag helps maintain quick reloads, and Arrowhead Brake tightens recoil for more accurate follow-up shots. With a Range or Handling Masterwork, this setup feels smooth and packs serious punch in strikes, seasonal activities, and raids.

Hand cannons are in a pretty good spot after The Final Shape expansion, and Something New’s unique origin perk makes it a solid choice for cooperative activities like raids and Nightfalls.
When using a Stasis handcannon, we typically like to pair it with Stasis abilities and subclasses, making Headstone a great option. Rapid Hit pairs very nicely with Headstone, as you’re already getting headshots in order to trigger the Stasis crystal.
Here’s the PvE god roll we recommend:
- Barrel: Smallbore
- Magazine: Tactical Mag with a Backup Mag mod
- Perk 1: Rapid Hit
- Perk 2: Headstone
- Origin Trait: Dream Work
Something New PvP God Roll
Something New shines in PvP with its adaptive frame and strong perk options that boost consistency and damage output. A top roll pairs Rangefinder with Kill Clip or Opening Shot for improved range and precision duels, while Rapid Hit enhances stability and reload speed under pressure. High-Caliber Rounds or Accurized Rounds further push its range, making it competitive against other 120 RPM hand cannons. With the right setup, this weapon can dominate Crucible matches through precision and control.

Something New has some excellent PvP perks in 2024, with multiple options to help put you ahead – including the classic Kill Clip reload perk. But we’re going to go with Explosive Payload and the To the Pain perk instead, as it’s a much newer combo.
How to farm Something New efficiently in Solstice 2024
You get Something New from Solstice weapon drops and Solstice Forge bounties, so the key is to maximize Silver Leaves and then convert them into as many weapon rolls as possible efficiently.
Core loop to farm Something New
-
Stack Silver Leaves
-
Play fast, repeatable activities that give high Leaves per minute:
-
Quick raid or dungeon encounters with a checkpoint (Kalli in Last Wish, Altars of Sorrow, etc.).โ
-
Bonfire Bash clears (about 7 Leaves per clear if you play it properly).
-
-
Aim to stockpile a big chunk of Leaves first so you can reroll Forge bounties without stopping.
-
-
Focus Solstice Forge bounties on weapons
-
Spend Silver Leaves to refresh bounties until you see weapon-focused Forge bounties (green and especially gold/legendary ones).
-
Prioritize bounties that reward weapon alloy/frames and specifically include the event weapons pool; these are what turn into weapon drops at the Forge.โ
-
Complete bounties in content that you can clear extremely fast (Altars of Sorrow, story mission checkpoints, or quick raid/dungeon encounters) to chain them back-to-back.โ
-
-
Turn in alloy at the Solstice Forge
-
Use your completed Forge bounties and their alloy rewards at the Forge to roll event weapons; Something New is part of that pool.
-
If your goal is strictly weapon rolls, guides recommend doing this before you unlock Solstice armor to avoid diluting the drop pool with extra armor pieces.โ
-
Most efficient practical setups
-
If you have a coordinated group:
-
Farm a very fast raid or dungeon encounter (e.g., Kalli, other early-boss checkpoints) for Leaves and bounty completion, then periodically dump alloy at the Forge.โ
-
-
If you’re mostly solo:
-
Rotate between Altars of Sorrow, Bonfire Bash, and quick playlist/core activities that line up with your current Forge bounties.โ
-
Keep refreshing bounties with Leaves until you have several that overlap (e.g., orb generation, ability kills, matching element) so one activity progresses multiple bounties at once.
-
In short: hoard a large Silver Leaf reserve, aggressively reroll into weapon-focused Forge bounties, clear those in the fastest content you can run, then funnel all alloy into the Solstice Forge before worrying about armor so that as many of those drops as possible can be Something New.
Best Bonfire Bash strategies for Something New drops
For Bonfire Bash, the best way to target Something New is to make each run as fast and high-score as possible while keeping the loot pool focused on weapons.โ
Setup before you farm
-
Farm weapons before you fully unlock Solstice armor, so Bonfire Bash drops are mostly weapons instead of armor pieces.โ
-
Equip high-add-clear builds (Solar or Arc with strong grenades, supers, and AoE weapons) so you can melt igniters and Taken waves quickly and consistently hit 20-30 stokes per run.
-
Slot orb-generation mods and weapon siphons so you’re chaining supers often and clearing spawns faster, which shortens each run and boosts your completions per hour.โ
In-activity speedrun habits
-
Kill the initial Taken miniboss in the back ASAP to start the ignition phase, then always push towards igniter majors as soon as they spawn.
-
At 10 and 20 ignitions, immediately rotate to the rooftops for Taken waves; clear them fast so you stop the timer drain and get back to spawning igniters.โ
-
Work in pairs: one or two players focus on killing igniters and picking up all three orbs, the others clear trash and snipe distant enemies so the orb-runner can throw quickly without being staggered.โ
Maximizing stokes and loot per run
-
Aim for 20+ ignitions; more stokes increases Silver Ash and final-chest rewards, giving you more chances at Something New per clear.โโ
-
Throw igniter orbs accurately-hit the bonfire trunk, not the edges-since misses waste potential stokes and slow you down.โ
-
Stay until the activity shows “Mission Complete” and fully ends before you leave; this avoids any chance of losing rewards or progress from early exits.โ
Event-wide strategy for Something New
-
Spam Bonfire Bash early in the event to stack weapon drops while the pool isn’t diluted by armor.โ
-
Between Bash sessions, use the Silver Leaves you earn to feed Forge/bounty loops, but always come back to Bonfire Bash as your primary engine for rapid, repeatable Something New rolls.โ
