Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Cerulean Coast Location Guide and Path

Guides

Beneath the shadowed peaks of the Land of Shadow lies the Cerulean Coast-an ethereal stretch of blue blossoms and ancient stone coffins, hidden just out of reach for most Tarnished. Though visible from the very start of Shadow of the Erdtree, this hauntingly beautiful region demands a perilous descent through poison swamps, winding riverbeds, and treacherous platforming before its secrets are revealed. Ready your Torrent and your wits: here’s how to find the path to one of Elden Ring’s most elusive and mesmerizing destinations.

However, due to the two-dimensional way the map works, it’s hard to miss the route required to reach the south coast, which requires traversing a series of underground caverns that travels underneath the starting area.

This Elden Ring guide explains where to find this route, and how to safely traverse it to the Cerulean Coast.

How to get to the Cerulean Coast in Elden Ring DLC

To get to the Cerulean Coast in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, start at the Castle Front Site of Grace near Castle Ensis. From there, head southeast along the road, passing enemy camps and a poison swamp. After navigating the swamp, move north along a trail leading down to a riverbed where you will find the entrance to a cave behind a giant poison plant. Enter the cave to reach the Ellac River Cave Site of Grace. Follow the river downstream carefully, using Torrent’s double jump or precise platforming to cross rocks and avoid falling. Continue to the Ellac River Downstream Site of Grace, then jump down cliffs to a waterfall basin and follow the river south. You will encounter a Furnace Golem which you must evade by giving it a wide berth. Beyond this, you will find a path leading into the Cerulean Coast, where you can obtain the map fragment and explore the area further.

To start your journey to the Cerulean Coast, start from the front of Castle Ensis. Specifically, we recommend the Castle Front Site of Grace, which is found just past a bridge after meeting various NPCs for the first time at the crossroads in the starting Gravesite Plain area.

From here, go south, then take the road going left (not back over the bridge). Follow the path until another route sloping down to the right opens up, and proceed in that direction.

Travel past the various enemies, and the path will fork again. Take the left path, underneath a rock archway.

You will now come to a green swamp-like area. This green patch will be visible from the map, if that’s useful to get your bearings.

You’ll be on a cliff edge, with the swamp-like area stretching ahead. Drop down a level, and go north, away from the cliff, going down a grass-lined slope, towards the blue body of water on the map.

You know you’re in the right area when you’ll see a giant crab in some shallow water. Ignore the crab, and at the far end of this area is a giant plant enemy next to a cave opening. Head inside.

Inside the cave, take the left route up the rocks, and proceed through the linear route until you come to the Ellac River Cave Site of Grace on your right. It’s highly recommended you rest here, as there’s a tricky platforming section coming up.

If you aren’t already, ride Torrent, and proceed onwards, where the route will swiftly open up. Stick to the left, and you’ll be standing at the top of a waterfall, with a series of isolated rocks in front of you. The following section essentially has you follow a river downwards, but let’s take it step-by-step.

Use these initial rocks as platforms to proceed. These are deceptively tricky jumps to make; we recommend double jumping early in the jump, as the distance between them isn’t as far as you think.

At the bottom, you’ll be at the top of another waterfall, with a number of birds perched on graves ahead. Going along the left, you want to sprint past all these on Torrent as fast as possible, as they will attack as soon as you approach. Provided you get hit just the once, you should survive – but if you’re struggling here, try getting some Scadutree Fragments to boost your defense.

At the other side of this section – where you’ll have the cliff wall on your right – you’ll have more rocks to drop down. You don’t need to leap here – angle the camera so you can see below, and just drop down each time – until you reach the Ellac River Downstream Site of Grace.

You’re almost done with this river section. Stick to the right side, and continue to drop down another level, and at the estuary, continue to stick to the right to avoid the body of water and emerge out.

You’ll be greeted by a Furnace Golem. For now, ignore it, and speed to the right of the Golem. There will be a cave opening on your right – take it.

This will then open up to the Cerulean Coast. You made it! Rest at the Cerulean Coast Site of Grace so you can fast travel here and save yourself having to repeat this journey again.

Before you travel away, however, we highly recommend you proceed south, following the path through the open area, where just to the other side is the area’s map fragment. There’s also a Miquella’s Cross and a Scadutree Fragment just to the south, too.

How can I navigate the hidden underground caverns to reach Cerulean Coast

Navigating the Hidden Underground Caverns to Reach Cerulean Coast

Step-by-Step Guide:

  • Start at the Castle Front Site of Grace near Castle Ensis.

  • Head south down the sloping path, passing through a camp of Messmer Soldiers. Keep left to descend into a poison field filled with poisonous plants.

  • In the poison fields, hug the left cliff and head back north until you find another downward slope guarded by Vulgar Militia. This leads to a pool of water with a Giant Crab and a Giant Poison Plant.

  • Look for a small cave entrance behind the Giant Poison Plant (Miranda Blossom). Enter this cave to reach the Ellac River Cave Site of Grace.

  • Proceed straight through the cave and emerge into the Ellac River. Head south, leaping from rock pillar to rock pillar as you descend a series of waterfalls. Use Torrent for safer traversal.

  • Continue downstream, passing Grave Birds, until you reach the Ellac River Downstream Site of Grace after several careful drops.

  • Past this site, you’ll encounter a Furnace Golem. Either avoid or fight it, then head southwest up the slope where the Golem was stationed.

  • Follow the path west through a rocky arch to finally emerge onto the Cerulean Coast, with the site of grace just down to the right.

Key Tips:

  • Use Torrent for platforming and to quickly escape enemies.

  • Move quickly through poison areas to avoid being overwhelmed.

  • Watch for environmental clues like large flowers and water pools to guide your route.

This underground river and cavern route is the only way to access the Cerulean Coast, making it one of the most hidden and rewarding regions to discover in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

What is the best route to find the entrance cave near the big dead tree

The search results do not directly reference Elden Ring or the Cerulean Coast, but based on in-game knowledge and the context of your query, here is the best route to find the entrance cave near the big dead tree:

  • From the Castle Front Site of Grace, head south and descend into the poison swamp area, keeping an eye out for the large, prominent dead tree.

  • Hug the left cliff wall as you move through the swamp, avoiding or quickly passing through poison patches.

  • As you approach the area near the big dead tree, look for a slope leading down toward a pool with a Giant Crab and a large Miranda Blossom (giant poison plant).

  • The cave entrance you seek is tucked behind the Miranda Blossom, near the base of the big dead tree. Defeat or avoid the plant, then enter the cave to access the underground river system that leads toward the Cerulean Coast.

This route ensures you find the correct cave entrance by using the big dead tree as your main landmark. Use Torrent for mobility and be cautious of enemies and poison along the way.
