Dammon isn’t hiding by accident-this tiefling blacksmith moves between acts, and finding him is the key to reforging more than just weapons. Whether you’re after Infernal Iron or Karlach’s salvation, knowing his shifting locations can make or break your quest.
Dammon is a gifted Blacksmith who can manipulate Infernal Iron (a very rare resource in Baldur’s Gate 3) to help repair Karlach’s heart in “The Hellion’s Heart” companion quest. Unfortunately, Dammon’s life exists outside your player character’s – like any good Dungeons and Dragons NPC – and so he moves around in inconvenient ways over the course of the game.
In this Baldur’s Gate 3 guide, we’ll tell you where you can find Infernal Iron, where and when to take it to Dammon in act 1, and where to find Dammon after the Emerald Grove.
We have a separate guide to help you find Infernal Iron and be a friend (or more than just a friend) to Karlach.
Where to find Dammon in the Emerald Grove in act 1
In the Emerald Grove during Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, Dammon works at his blacksmith forge located north of the main area, close to the prison cells in the Hollow section. Look for the small shop with an anvil and tools near coordinates X:178 Y:563. His position ties to the Tiefling refugees, so siding with them keeps him available there.

Once you have a piece of Infernal Iron (or two), you’ll need to actually findDammon, which can prove challenging.
Dammon being where you need him when you need him depends entirely on the decisions you make during the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3. He’s part of the Tiefling crew in the Emerald Grove, and he shares the same fate as his kin – both good and bad.
If the Tieflings aren’t in the Emerald Grove anymore, Dammon won’t be there either. If they are in the Emerald Grove, however, he’ll be hanging out in his small blacksmithing shop to the north of the grove, near the prison.

We successfully killed the Goblin Camp leaders and returned to Dammon when we met back up with Halsin in the Emerald Grove. And while the Tieflings were on their way out of town by then, Dammon was lagging behind a little bit, and was able to give Karlach a tune-up before he left. As long as you approach Dammon with the Infernal Iron before the Tieflings leave, you can progress Karlach’s quest during act 1. You can tell if Dammon is still in town or not based on the map icon for “The Hellion’s Heart” quest.
But be warned. While everything went smoothly for the Tieflings and Druids in our playthrough, some players have reported that Dammon can die in any conflicts that happen in the Emerald Grove. If Dammon dies, you won’t meet another smith who is able to help Karlach for dozens more in-game hours – and we’re currently unsure if you’ll ever meet one again. So make sure to either stop the invasion of the Emerald Grove or tell the Tieflings to leave. Otherwise, you could be unable to help complete Karlach’s quest for the rest of the game.
Where to find Dammon at the Last Light Inn in act 2
Dammon stands in the northernmost section of the Last Light Inn during Act 2, provided he survived Act 1 by siding with the Tieflings against the goblins. Look for him near his forge in the stables at coordinates X:-33 Y:165. Speak to him there to trade or advance Karlach’s quest with Infernal Iron.

Assuming Dammon escapes the Emerald Grove with his life (or leaves peacefully with the rest of his crew), you can meet up with him again in act 2 at the Last Light Inn. This gives you a second chance to give him some Infernal Iron if you missed him in the Emerald Grove.
However, if you gave him Infernal Iron back in the Emerald Grove and have more to give him at Last Light, he can “fix” Karlach before he reaches Baldur’s Gate. Give him a second piece and he’ll fix up her heart, allowing her to finally touch people without burning them. This opens up Karlach as a romance option back at camp and just generally makes her really excited for hugs.
However, Dammon warns Karlach that her heart has a fatal flaw and is going to overheat if she doesn’t go back to hell and get it fixed. This is a bit of a touchy subject with Karlach, and even if you talk to her about it, she’ll say she’d rather die than go back.
This will complete the Hellion’s Heart quest while also suggesting that you’ll eventually need to convince Karlach to return home or lose her forever.
Where to find Dammon in Baldur’s Gate in act 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3, Dammon works at the Forge of the Nine, located west of the Elfsong Tavern in the Lower City. Fast travel to the Elfsong Tavern waypoint and head west to enter the forge. He remains there if the Tieflings survived earlier acts, ready to upgrade Karlach’s engine with Infernal Iron.

The Tieflings go through a lot over the course of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s story. But if you manage to protect them all the way to Baldur’s Gate itself, Dammon will finally be able to set up a nice shop in the Lower City.
To find him, head to the northern half of the Lower city, on the eastern side of the map. Look for the Elfsong Tavern, where you’ll find some of the other Tieflings. Dammon is set up just to the west of there, on the southern balcony of the Forge of the Nine.

How to get Infernal Iron locations fast
Fastest Infernal Iron Sources
The quickest way to collect Infernal Iron prioritizes Act 1 spots accessible early, before reaching Dammon in later acts. These enable Karlach’s engine upgrades without detours.
Act 1 Priority Locations
-
Blighted Village forge basement: Enter the building right of the waypoint (X:-434 Y:-370), break webs or unlock doors, then loot the locked chest near the ladder by the Masterwork Weapon Forge. Fastest early grab.
-
Shattered Sanctum (Goblin Camp): Behind Dror Ragzlin’s throne (X:296 Y:65), pick the door lock, Knock spell, or steal his key for the stash chest. Second easiest Act 1 piece.
-
Zhentarim Hideout: North end near Waukeen’s Rest, unlock the left door then right chest (X:282 Y:167). Stealth or fight guards/wolves; skip if avoiding combat.
Later Quick Picks (Act 2-3)
-
Mason’s Guild workbench in Reithwin Town (X:105 Y:18) once Shadow Curse navigable.
-
Steel Watchers in Lower City (Act 3) for multiple pieces/Enriched Iron by dismantling patrols.
Two pieces total upgrade Karlach twice with Dammon; stock extras for Act 3. Nine total exist, but Act 1 duo gets you ahead fast.
Best fast routes to collect multiple Infernal Iron pieces
Fastest Multi-Infernal Iron Route (Act 1 Focus)
The optimal early-game path grabs three Infernal Iron pieces in Act 1 with minimal backtracking, starting from Emerald Grove toward Blighted Village and Goblin Camp.
Step 1: Blighted Village (1st Piece)
Head west from Grove to Blighted Village waypoint. Enter blacksmith forge (right of waypoint at X:-434 Y:-370), break webs/clear spiders, descend to basement, and lockpick chest on shelf near forge. Quick stealth or combat skip.
Step 2: Zhentarim Hideout (2nd Piece, Detour)
En route to Goblin Camp, check Waukeen’s Rest north (X:282 Y:167). Rescue traders from gnolls for Zhentarim code, enter hideout, unlock right chest past guards (trapped-disarm first). Stealth preferable; 5-10 minute side trip.
Step 3: Shattered Sanctum (3rd Piece)
Proceed to Goblin Camp, infiltrate Shattered Sanctum behind Dror Ragzlin’s throne (X:296 Y:65). Pickpocket key, Knock, or lockpick door to stash chest. Non-hostile entry via deception speeds this up.
This sequence nets three pieces before Dammon’s Act 1/2 visits, enabling two Karlach upgrades fast. Later Act 2 spots (Mason’s Guild X:105 Y:18, Yurgir drop) follow naturally.
