In LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, uncovering the elusive Dry Valley biome-a sprawling desert marked by towering red mesas, cacti, and rugged rock formations-is no easy feat. Nestled opposite the icy Frostlands and hidden beyond the Shores, this rare desert biome challenges explorers with its harsh heat and formidable foes. But with the right preparation, keen eyes for its distinctive reddish terrain and spire-like pillars, and a stash of heat-resistant Snow Berries, you can conquer the Dry Valley and harvest its unique resources like rough amber and flexwood. Ready to brave the desert’s scorching trials? Here’s your essential guide to finding and thriving in LEGO Fortnite’s Dry Valley biome across Nintendo, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Those playing in sandbox mode will be able to fly around and quickly find these biomes, but if you’re trying to progress in the survival mode, you may have a difficult time. Below we give tips for finding the desert biome in Lego Fortnite Odyssey.
How to find the desert in Lego Fortnite Odyssey
To find the desert “Dry Valley” biome in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, start by locating the frozen biome with its distinctive snowy peaks, then face the opposite direction and travel across the map. The Dry Valley is typically situated opposite the frozen area and is identifiable by its reddish-brown terrain, tall red rock pillars, cacti, and rocky formations. Use the in-game map to spot the dark brown color marking the desert biome. Climbing high ground can help you spot the biome from a distance by revealing these unique mesa-like structures. Be prepared for a long journey, as the desert is usually beyond the Shores biome, and bring resources like Snow Berries to resist the desert’s heat damage. Advanced tools are also necessary to harvest special materials found there.
Unfortunately, there are no specific indicators that will point you to a desert biome from afar. You can get on top of high points, or try to build stairs all the way up to the sky to look for a desert nearby, but if there’s none near you, you’ll just have to pick a direction and start walking. It sucks to say, but you’ll just need patience to find those rocky cliffs.
Some people have noted that walking in the direction opposite a snowy biome may lead you to the desert, but this hasn’t worked 100% of for me. I’ve stumbled upon beaches via this method – so I can’t confirm this as a working fix, but it wouldn’t hurt to try it.
Ultimately, finding a desert in Lego Fortnite all depends on your seed. I’ve had a seed where I had to head very far south from the spawn point (like, several maps away) to find the desert. I’ve also had seeds where a desert almost fully encircles my snow and grass biomes.

The desert biome is indicated by cacti, sand, and tall rocky cliffs – you’ll know once you see it. (For visual reference, refer to the screenshot at the top of this post.) If you’re super unlucky like I was, you’ll have to walk a long while before you get to the desert, but don’t give up.
How to prepare for the desert in Lego Fortnite Odyssey
To prepare for the desert in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, prioritize gathering Snow Berries from forest or grassland biomes before heading into the Dry Valley. These berries provide two minutes of heat resistance, which is essential to avoid the heat damage inflicted by the desert environment. Equip yourself with upgraded charms crafted from Amber found on the desert mesas to boost your health and cooling effects. Additionally, bring reliable weapons and torches to handle nighttime skeleton enemies that drop valuable resources like Blast Powder. Exploring the Frostlands biome first to stock up on heat-resistant items and upgrading your tools to harvest special desert materials will also improve your survival chances in this harsh biome.
The desert both has hot and cold temperatures, so you may want to use charms or food that grants you temperature resistance. It’ll be hot during the day and cold at night – though admittedly my desert was only hot in certain areas. I was able to grab rough amber without building any heat resistance, and holding a torch was enough for me to gain cold resistance when night fell.
If your desert is a hike and a half away like ours, bring lots of food and tools so you can stay in the desert and farm as many materials as humanly possible before coming back.
What visual clues help me spot the Dry Valley biome in LEGO Fortnite
To spot the Dry Valley biome in LEGO Fortnite, look for several distinctive visual clues:
-
Reddish-brown terrain: The desert features a unique reddish-brown sand color that stands out from the green of other biomes.
-
Tall, red rock pillars or mesas: These vertical, towering rock formations are a hallmark of the Dry Valley biome and can often be seen from a distance, helping you navigate toward the desert.
-
Cacti scattered throughout: Unlike the Beach biome, which has palm trees, the Dry Valley is dotted with cacti, making it easy to differentiate between the two.
-
Sandy ground with rocky cliffs: The biome includes sand and tall rocky cliffs that contrast with the gradual inclines found in other areas.
Additionally, checking your in-game map for a dark brown color patch in the southeast corner can help confirm you are near the Dry Valley biome. Climbing high vantage points to scan the horizon for these tall red pillars can also aid in locating the biome.
How do tall cliffs and mesas visually distinguish the Dry Valley biome
Tall cliffs and mesas visually distinguish the Dry Valley biome in LEGO Fortnite by standing out as towering, vertical rock formations that resemble natural towers or spires rising sharply from the desert floor. These reddish-brown rocky outcroppings create a dramatic, rugged landscape that contrasts with the flatter, tree-covered forest areas nearby. From a high vantage point, these tall, straight mountain-like structures are easily identifiable and serve as key landmarks to locate the desert biome, signaling the transition from lush forests to arid desert terrain. Their unique shape and color make them unmistakable in the game’s environment, helping players navigate toward the Dry Valley.
