Where to find hardwood in Hytale
Hardwood logs drop from ash, oak, and fir trees scattered across specific biomes in Hytale. Ash and oak trees grow in the Emerald Wilds, with ash near lush meadows amid dark green canopies and oak in autumn forests sporting light-green or orange leaves. Fir trees cluster in the green zones of Whisper Frontiers, standing tall and slender.
Ashwood, oakwood, and firwood all fall within Hytale‘s hardwood category.
To find ash trees, you must go to the Emerald Wilds (Zone 1) and look for vast forests with massive, dark green trees. They usually spawn adjacent to the green meadows. Oak trees are also found in the Emerald Wilds, but they usually spawn in the autumn forest, where they either appear as light-green trees or bright orange trees (not to be confused with the yellow and red trees!).

On Hytale‘s in-game map, here’s what the oaks and ash trees look like. The arrows on the left and right point to ash trees, and the middle two point to green and orange oaks.
To obtain hardwood from Hytale‘s fir trees, go to the Whisperfront Frontiers (Zone 3) and look for a green swath of land full of tall, green, narrow trees as shown in the picture below.
Hytale‘s hardwood logs may be used to upgrade the farmer’s workbench to tier 4, which requires 20 hardwood logs in total. If you haven’t already, you must offer softwood and lightwood to reach tier 2 and 3, respectively. For future upgrades, keep an eye out for darkwood and goldenwood logs.
Where to find Greater Essence of Life in Hytale
Greater Essence of Life in Hytale is crafted at a Farmer’s Workbench using 100 regular Essence of Life. It cannot be directly harvested from crops but may rarely drop from high-level chests.
Obtaining Essence of Life First
Harvest wild crops like wheat in open grassy areas, such as Emerald Grove’s Drifting Plains or Howling Sands’ Golden Steppes-these yield the most. Chopping trees, bushes, or killing mobs (e.g., cows, sheep) can also drop small amounts.

Unlock and build a Farmer’s Workbench (starts with 6 logs at a basic workbench).

Use the Essence of Life tab on the Farmer’s Workbench to convert harvested crops directly into Essence of Life if needed.
