Unravel the secrets behind Inaba’s mystery-filled tale with choices that decide more than just your fate. This guide breaks down every decision, dialogue, and trigger you need to reach the elusive true ending in Persona 4: Golden across all platforms.
The game will often prompt you before big, game-changing decisions happen, so make sure to save your game when it does. We recommend saving on a separate save slot, too, just in case you want to go back to see different endings or if you need to backtrack after making a mistake.
Before the climax of the story, make sure to max out Marie’s social link by Dec. 31. We’re putting this before all the other stuff because this is something you’ll be able to work on throughout the course of the game.
[Ed. note: Minor spoilers for Persona 4 Golden are below. We understand that you are probably looking this guide up probably before you’re getting to these story points, so we’ve tried our best things organized in a way to avoid spoilers. Only look at the dates below if you’re ready to be spoiled for the events on that day.]
On Dec. 3 …
On Dec. 3, your choices determine whether you reach the true ending or not. During the hospital scene, carefully question the truth about the case instead of accusing anyone too quickly. Keep pressing for deeper answers and avoid settling for the easy option. Once you’ve uncovered the full story, continue playing until March to see the additional events and reach the real conclusion of Persona 4 Golden.
On Dec. 3, you’ll need to pick out the right dialogue while the gang is talking about what to do with Namatame. You’ll need to pick these options, in order:
- “Wait a second here …”
- “We’re missing something.”
- “Namatame’s true feelings.”
- “Something’s bothering me.”
- “We’re missing something …”
- “Calm the hell down!”
After doing this, the group will come to their senses a bit and the story will continue.
If you give in to your desires for revenge, you will get a bad ending of the game, so make sure to pick the dialogue options carefully. We’re unsure if there are more than one set of “right” answers to get the true ending, but these are the choices that we can confirm work.
On Dec. 5 …
On Dec. 5, you’ll face a turning point where your dialogue choices determine whether the story stops or continues toward the true ending. Talk to your friends carefully, question every assumption about the case, and select responses that show doubt about the investigation’s conclusion. Missing these cues leads to the standard ending, so save beforehand to revisit decisions if needed.
The gang will gather for a meal, but will discuss the true culprit behind all the bad stuff happening in Inaba. When prompted, you’ll need to select the true killer: Tohru Adachi. The menu will list your friends and other social links, so select “someone else” until his name appears on the list.
A new dungeon will open up, requiring you to clear it.
On Feb. 13 …
On Feb. 13, after completing the main story and making the right dialogue choices in the final investigation scene, players will have the chance to access a special sequence leading to the true ending. This date marks the final day to visit key characters, strengthen Social Links, and ensure every thread of the mystery is resolved. Spending time with friends and confirming your conclusions during this period determines whether you see the full story unfold or settle for a standard conclusion.
The gang goes on a ski trip starting on Feb. 11. On Feb. 13, you’ll head to a new dungeon called the Hollow Forest. Make sure to complete the dungeon.
On March 20 …
On March 20, the final day of the main story, players must revisit their friends in Inaba before leaving town to start the final sequence leading to the true ending. Speak to every key character you’ve bonded with, then return to Junes and reflect on what remains unresolved. This day is your last chance to piece together the mystery and choose the dialogue options that reveal the truth behind the Midnight Channel.
On March 20, after visiting all your maxed out social links, do not go back home. After meeting up with a bunch of your buddies to say goodbye, the game will ask if you want to return home to prepare to go home. Select “no” and instead, head to the Junes food court.
After a cutscene plays, head to Samegawa Flood Plain to talk to Dojima and Nanako. After chatting, go to the Central Shopping District and into the Velvet Room to grab a key item from Igor.
How to max Marie Aeon Social Link quickly
Maxing Marie’s Aeon Social Link in Persona 4: Golden requires starting early, using optimal dialogue choices, and leveraging bonuses to hit Rank 10 by December 23rd. It unlocks after April 18th via the Velvet Room (“Check on Dwellers” > “Listen to Marie’s request”), but stalls at Rank 4 until July 24th post-Rise’s dungeon.
Availability
Marie hangs out on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (not rainy days, except Rank 1). Post-July 24th, she’s available more often outside the Velvet Room; from Magatsu Inaba onward, every day until the deadline. Prioritize her after story progress to fit in 10 ranks quickly-players report maxing by December 19th even starting late.
Key Speed Tips
Always equip an Aeon Arcana Persona (e.g., Narcissus) for +50-100% affinity bonus per hangout-this halves the ranks needed. Draw fortunes at the Shrine (100 yen) on non-Marie days for extra points toward her link. Skip rain checks and story-mandatory events; use holidays aggressively.
Dialogue Choices (Bonus Points with Aeon)
Use these for max efficiency (points assume Aeon bonus):
