This year’s Halloween event also sees the debut of Gen 9’s Greavard and Houndstone, alongside a refresh of wild spawns, raid encounters and 7km eggs. There’s plenty to sink your teeth into!

’Halloween Timed Research’ quest steps

The Halloween Timed Research quest in Pokémon Go Halloween 2023 Part 1 is an event-exclusive, free-to-play Timed Research available from October 19 to October 31, 2023. It consists of three steps focused primarily on catching and photographing Ghost-type Pokémon, with tasks ranging from catching 5 to 25 Ghost-type Pokémon and taking snapshots of them. Completing each step rewards players with Stardust, XP, Pinap Berries, and encounters with various Ghost-type Pokémon, including multiple chances to encounter shiny variants. This Timed Research is an excellent opportunity to farm valuable in-game resources and enjoy boosted spawns of featured Ghost-type Pokémon during the event.

The following quest is available for all players, and must be completed before Part 2 of the event ends on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. local time.

Step 1 of 3

• Catch 5 Ghost-type Pokémon (1,000 Stardust)
• Catch 10 Ghost-type Pokémon (1,500 XP)
• Catch 15 Ghost-type Pokémon (1,000 Stardust)

Rewards: Greavard encounter, 25 Poké Balls, 1,000 Stardust

• Take a snapshot of a Ghost-type Pokémon* (1,000 Stardust)
• Catch 10 Ghost-type Pokémon (2,000 XP)
• Catch 15 Ghost-type Pokémon (1,500 Stardust)

* This is bugged for some players, with the quest steps either showing the wrong research or it not working as intended. One solution (via ptmcmahon on Reddit) is to take a snapshot of a ghost-type from your storage to progress.

Note that the “Spiritomb Limited Research” – also available for all players – also has the same deadline of Oct. 31.

’Halloween Part 1’ Field Research Tasks

The “Halloween Part 1” Field Research tasks in Pokémon GO Halloween 2023 offer players a series of themed challenges focused on Ghost-type Pokémon. Tasks include making 5 Great Throws, evolving a Ghost-type Pokémon, taking 3 snapshots of Ghost-type Pokémon, spinning 5 PokéStops or Gyms, and transferring 5 Ghost-type Pokémon. Completing these tasks rewards encounters with Pokémon such as Misdreavus and Phantump, Poké Balls, and Misdreavus Candy, with shiny variants available for some rewards. Players can participate in event-exclusive Timed Research, including a paid “Eerie Echoes” Timed Research for $5, offering encounters with Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon and Halloween-themed rewards. Event bonuses include additional Candy for successful throws, extra Candy XL for Trainers level 31 and above when hatching eggs, and double Candy for hatching Pokémon. The event also includes special 7km Eggs hatching themed Pokémon and Spiritomb Limited Research with unique rewards, making it a comprehensive Halloween celebration in Pokémon GO.
