Wild, unpredictable, and ready to evolve-Pokémon Go’s Mankey Community Day is here to shake up your Sunday! From 2 to 5 p.m. local time on November 10, the Pig Monkey Pokémon will swarm the wild, giving trainers a rare shot at shiny Mankey and the exclusive chance to evolve Primeape into the formidable Annihilape with the powerful Rage Fist attack. Whether you’re hunting hundos, chasing shinies, or just eager to fill your Pokédex, this Community Day promises chaos, candy, and a flurry of fighting spirit.

How do I catch a shiny Mankey in Pokémon Go?

To catch a shiny Mankey in Pokémon Go, your best opportunity is during Mankey Community Day, when Mankey spawns are dramatically increased and the shiny rate is boosted to about 1 in 24 encounters. Maximize your chances by playing throughout the event window, using Incense and Lure Modules to further boost spawns, and quickly tapping each Mankey to check for shininess. After the main event, participating in special four-star Primeape raids will cause even more Mankey to appear around the raid location for 30 minutes, with the same boosted shiny odds as during Community Day. The key is to encounter as many Mankey as possible-there’s no guaranteed shiny, but the odds are much better during this event than usual.

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Mankey to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Mankey you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

What Community Day move does Mankey’s evolution learn?

During Mankey Community Day in Pokémon Go, evolving Mankey into Primeape or Primeape into Annihilape during the event or up to five hours afterward will grant the evolved Pokémon the exclusive Community Day move, Rage Fist. Rage Fist is a Ghost-type Charged Attack that deals 50 power in Trainer Battles (and increases the user’s Attack by one stage) and 100 power in Gyms and raids. This move is only available if you evolve during the event window, making it a limited-time opportunity to obtain Primeape or Annihilape with Rage Fist for enhanced PvP and raid performance.

If you evolve Mankey or Primape into Primeape or Annihilape from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Rage Fist.

Primeape has an unusual evolution requirement to evolve into Annihilape usually. However, for this Community Day, the usual method has been temporarily replaced with an easier method: set Primeape as your buddy and catch 20 fighting-type Pokémon. This will be active from 2-10 p.m. in your local time, so use this to take advantage and evolve those Mankey and Primeape.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Rage Fist. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

How does Annihilape do in the Pokémon Go meta?

Annihilape is making a significant impact across all major Pokémon Go PvP leagues. Its unique Fighting/Ghost typing grants it several key resistances, including double resistance to Fighting and Normal moves, which sets it apart from other Fighters and Ghosts. In the Great League, Annihilape stands out for its impressive bulk-outclassing popular Fighters like Machamp and Sirfetch’d, though it is slightly less bulky than top competitors like Hitmontop and Poliwrath. In Ultra League, it remains a strong pick, requiring no XL Candy and being a relatively cheap investment compared to other meta Fighters. In the Master League, Annihilape is considered one of the best non-Legendary Fighting-types and can even rival Legendaries in certain matchups, especially with access to the exclusive Community Day move Rage Fist. Its versatility is further enhanced by its ability to fit into formats where Fighters or Ghosts are favored, and its neutral matchup against Dark-types is a rare advantage for a Ghost Pokémon. However, it does have weaknesses-most notably to Psychic, Flying, Fairy, and opposing Ghost-types, which can limit its dominance in some scenarios. Overall, Annihilape is a top-tier addition for PvP players in every league and is especially valuable if you can secure one with optimal IVs and Community Day moves.

Unfortunately as of this writing, we don’t know the exact stats for Rage Fist. (Full disclosure: We prep these posts a few days ahead of time, as we don’t typically work on weekends!) PvP-focused websites like PvPoke are predicting that Rage Fist will help out Annihilape and Primeape re-enter the meta after the nerfs that came in with the PvP shake-up earlier in the season.

In terms of PvE content (raids and gyms), Annihilape sits in the top 20 of ghost-type attackers when you get rid of shadow Pokémon and Megas, but that doesn’t mean much. It’s outclassed by many more commonly found Pokémon: Gengar and Chandelure, as well as a plethora of Legendary Pokémon, like Lunala, Origin Forme Giratina, Darkrai, Mewtwo – you get the picture. You can totally build and invest in an Annihilape if you want, but since it has no ghost-type fast move available, Rage Fist will likely not push it up the ladder compared to these long-standing meta picks.

How do I make the most of Mankey Community Day?

To make the most of Mankey Community Day in Pokémon GO, focus on maximizing the event bonuses and exclusive features. Play actively from 2 to 5 p.m. local time to take advantage of triple catch XP, double catch candy, and doubled chances for XL candy if you are level 31 or higher. Use Pinap Berries to further increase candy gains, and consider Mega Evolving a Fighting-type Pokémon like Lucario or Medicham to boost candy rewards. Participate in 4-star Primeape raids for additional shiny Mankey spawns and complete event-specific Field Research tasks for extra rewards. Evolve Mankey into Primeape and then into Annihilape during or shortly after the event to obtain the exclusive Ghost-type charged move Rage Fist, which is valuable for PvP and raids. Playing with friends can increase spawn rates, and using Incense and Lure Modules (lasting three hours during the event) will enhance your chances of encountering shiny Mankey. Also, take advantage of reduced Stardust costs for trades and the extra special trade available during the day.

The following bonuses will be active during Mankey Community Day:

  • Tripled XP for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31 trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules lasts three hours
  • Mankey special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Mankey.

If you can Mega Evolve Heracross, Blaziken, Medicham, Lopunny, or Lucario, you’ll score additional Mankey Candy per catch.

In addition to all this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5-10 p.m., where if you clear the Primeape raid, Mankey will spawn in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual 2-5 p.m. spawn increase doesn’t get you the Mankey you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.

How can I maximize my Mankey catches during Community Day

How to Maximize Your Mankey Catches During Community Day

Follow these expert strategies to catch as many Mankey as possible and make the most of the event’s bonuses:

  • Play in Busy Areas: Head to parks or popular community spots where PokéStops are clustered. More PokéStops mean more spawns and easier access to items like Poké Balls and Berries. Playing with friends also increases spawn rates around you.

  • Use Lure Modules and Incense: Activate Lure Modules on PokéStops and Incense on your avatar. Both will last three hours during the event, dramatically boosting Mankey appearances wherever you play.

  • Maximize XP and Candy:

    • Use Lucky Eggs to stack with the 3x Catch XP bonus-each Excellent throw can net up to 6,000 XP with a Lucky Egg active.

    • Use Pinap Berries on every catch to double the candy, and combine this with the event’s 2x catch candy bonus for up to 8 candies per catch.

    • Mega Evolve a Fighting-type Pokémon (like Lucario, Blaziken, Medicham, Heracross, or Lopunny) to further increase candy and XL Candy from catches.

  • Take Advantage of Bonus Raids: After the event, participate in 4-star Primeape raids. Defeating these will cause additional Mankey to spawn around the Gym for 30 minutes, with Community Day shiny odds.

  • Utilize Autocatchers: If you’re short on time or want to multitask, use a Pokémon GO Plus or similar device to automatically catch Mankey while you walk.

  • Check for Special Research: Attend official Community Ambassador meetups (visible in the Campfire app) for access to exclusive Special Research, which can grant extra Mankey encounters and rewards.

  • Snapshot Surprises: Take several snapshots during the event for photobomb encounters with Mankey.

  • Manage Your Inventory: Make sure you have plenty of Poké Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls, as well as enough bag space to store your catches and items.

By combining these strategies, you’ll maximize your chances of catching high-IV, shiny, and candy-rich Mankey during Community Day.

How can I best use the 3x catch XP bonus during Community Day

Best Ways to Use the 3x Catch XP Bonus During Community Day

To maximize your XP gains during Mankey Community Day, follow these proven strategies:

  • Use Lucky Eggs: Activate Lucky Eggs throughout the event to double all XP earned, turning the 3x catch XP into a massive 6x catch XP per Pokémon. This can lead to millions of XP over the course of the event.

  • Aim for Excellent Throws: Practice and prioritize making Excellent Throws, as they grant the highest XP per catch. With the bonus and a Lucky Egg, each Excellent Throw can net up to 7,000 XP if you catch the Pokémon on the first ball. Focus on consistency rather than speed for maximum XP.

  • Play in Dense Spawn Areas: Choose parks or urban areas with many PokéStops and cluster spawns to maximize the number of catches per hour.

  • Use the Fast Catch Trick: Learn and use the fast catch method to speed up your catching process. This allows you to catch more Pokémon in less time, further boosting your total XP.

  • Coordinate Lucky Egg Timing: If you have friends ready to level up, coordinate friendship milestones during the event while Lucky Eggs are active for additional XP bursts.

  • Prepare Items in Advance: Stock up on Poké Balls and clear inventory space before the event to avoid interruptions.

By combining Lucky Eggs, excellent throws, fast catching, and playing in high-density areas, you can make the most of the 3x catch XP bonus and power-level your trainer during Community Day.
