Our Assassin’s Creed Shadows guide will tell you how to complete “Soup for Sorin” including where to find the merchant and how to choose the correct ingredient.

’Soup for Sorin’ walkthrough in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In the “Soup for Sorin” quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you assist Junjiro in preparing a special soup for his mentor, Master Sorin. The quest becomes available after completing Junjiro’s earlier missions, such as “A Different Kind of Samurai” and “Secrets of the Blade,” and takes place in the Kii region, specifically in the port town of Yuasa. Junjiro tasks you with finding the perfect ingredient-something brown, from the ocean, but not a fish-to complement the soup. To fulfill this, locate the merchant in the northwest part of Yuasa and purchase both shoyu (soy sauce) and konbu (kelp). After returning these ingredients to Junjiro, you’ll help him complete the recipe. Regardless of your ingredient choice, you’ll receive a Hay Supply outdoor cosmetic for your Hideout and some experience points as a reward.

The timing of when you get the “Soup for Sorin” quest isn’t set. You’ll get it after you complete Junjiro’s previous quests, “A Different Kind of Samurai” and “Secrets of the Blade” (as Yasuke). It takes place in Kii, which is a level 35 area, so even if it pops up early for you, it’s worth waiting until you’re prepared for the region.

In Kii, Junjiro will explain that he wants to, as the name suggests, make some soup for Master Sorin. He’s fretting about the ingredients, though. He says he’s in Kii to try their soy sauce and that he already has mochi and daikon – this matters because it changes your shopping list.

Junjiro will decide that the perfect ingredient that he is missing is brown like a dirt path and from the sea, but doesn’t have a heart (like a fish).

He’ll ask you to get some shoyu and one ingredient that is brown and comes from the sea. You just have to find a merchant that sells it.

Where to find the merchant in ’Soup for Sorin’ in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

To find the merchant in the “Soup for Sorin” quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, head to the village of Yuasa, located in the Kii region. The quest marker will guide you to Yuasa, but the name may only appear on your map when you zoom in closely. Once in Yuasa, make your way to the northwest part of the village, along the main street. Here, you’ll find an ornament vendor who doubles as the merchant for this quest. Speak to her to access her selection of ingredients. She offers several items, but for the quest, you specifically need to purchase shoyu (soy sauce) and konbu (dried kelp), as these match Junjiro’s requirements for the soup. After buying the ingredients, return to Junjiro to complete this part of the mission.

Your objective will tell you that the merchant is in Yuasa. If you’re like us and kind of zone out whenever Junjiro is involved, you might have missed that you’re already in Yuasa. (Also, the name Yuasa doesn’t show up on the map unless you’re really zoomed in.) Long story short, the merchant is about 250 meters to the north-northwest along the main road.

When you get there, the ornament vendor will sell several ingredients along with the usual Hideout items. She sells more things than you need, though, so this is the test of how well you remember your conversation with Junjiro.

Buy the konbu dried kelp and the shoyu soy sauce. You need those because.

Which ingredient to choose for ’Soup for Sorin’ in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For the ’Soup for Sorin’ quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the correct ingredient to choose is konbu, which is dried brown kelp from the sea. Junjiro specifically asks for something brown like a dirt path and from the ocean, but not animal-based, since Sorin does not eat anything with a heart. While the merchant offers several options, including salted fish and other items, konbu is the only suitable choice that fits Junjiro’s requirements. Along with konbu, you also need to purchase shoyu (soy sauce) to complete the soup. Selecting these ingredients ensures Junjiro makes the perfect soup for Master Sorin, though the quest can be completed regardless of your choice-the correct selection simply leads to the best result.

Based on the ingredients for sale at the merchant and Junjiro’s requirements, there’s only one right answer: konbu. You’ll also need to give him the shoyu that he came to Kii for in the first place.

Even if you choose incorrectly, you’ll get the hay supply outdoor cosmetic for your Hideout and some XP.

What secret ingredient makes the soup for Sorin truly special

The secret ingredient that makes the soup for Sorin truly special in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is konbu, a type of dried brown kelp from the sea. Junjiro specifically requests something brown like a dirt path and sourced from the ocean but not resembling fish, as Master Sorin does not eat anything with a heart. Along with shoyu (fermented soy sauce), konbu is the perfect ingredient to create the meaningful soup Junjiro wants to honor his mentor.

Why is konbu considered the key ingredient for Sorin’s special soup

Konbu is considered the key ingredient for Sorin’s special soup because it perfectly fits Junjiro’s criteria: it is brown like a dirt path, comes from the sea, and importantly, is not animal-based since Master Sorin “doesn’t eat anything that has a heart.” This makes konbu, a type of dried brown kelp, the meaningful and suitable choice that completes the soup alongside Kii’s famous shoyu (fermented soy sauce). When Junjiro uses konbu in the soup, he declares it perfect, highlighting its significance in honoring his mentor.
