Feathers are flying and chaos reigns in Kakariko Village-five mischievous cuccos have escaped their pen, leaving one frantic owner desperate for help. In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, it’s up to Princess Zelda to round up these runaway chickens in the “Cuccos on the Loose” side quest, testing your puzzle-solving skills and rewarding you with a coveted Fairy Bottle for your heroic herding efforts. Will you track down every last clucking culprit before the village erupts in poultry pandemonium?
Cucco #1 location
The first cucco is the easiest to find-it’s located just south of the cucco pen in Kakariko Village, right in front of the Slumber Dojo. As you begin the “Cuccos on the Loose” quest, head a few steps down from the pen and you’ll spot the cucco wandering near the dojo entrance. Simply pick it up and carry it back to the pen to get started on your roundup.

The first cucco is very literally right in front of the cucco lady’s face. Walk south a few feet and you’ll see it poking around next to the house beneath the pen. Grab it and chuck it into the fenced-in area near the cucco lady.
Cucco #2 location
The second cucco in the “Cuccos on the Loose” quest can be found just outside Kakariko Village’s item shop, near the village’s south entrance. After picking up the quest from the cucco lady, head east toward the center of the village and then take the right path at the central square to reach the general store. The cucco will be roaming right outside the shop, making it easy to spot and return to the pen.

The second cucco is barely off screen from where you meet the cucco lady and pick up the quest. Head east to the center of Kakariko Village, near the well with the big metal plate on top of it. Between the well and the chicken pen, you’ll find a cucco. Grab it and throw it into the pen.
Cucco #3 location
Cucco #3 is located just to the right of the cucco pen, near the center of Kakariko Village. After returning the first two cuccos, head towards the central area by the pen and you’ll spot this cucco wandering nearby, making it one of the easiest to find in the quest. Simply pick it up and carry it back to the pen to continue your progress.

The third cucco is just southeast of where you found cucco #2. From the well in the middle of town, go down the stairs and then head to the right – staying within city limits. You’ll find the third cucco just outside of the item shop. Grab it, carry it back to the pen, and chuck it in.
Cucco #4 location
Cucco #4 is located in the graveyard area of Kakariko Village, just north of the cucco pen. To find it, head up the path leading to the elevated northern section of town, where the graveyard overlooks the pen. The cucco will be wandering among the gravestones-simply pick it up and return it to the pen to continue your quest.

The fourth cucco is also inside the city limits. Head up the path to the northern, elevated part of town and the graveyard that sits right above the cucco pen. You’ll find a cucco just milling about near the gravestones. Throw it down and into the pen.
Cucco #5 location
Cucco #5 is located atop the northeast windmill in Kakariko Village-not the one to the northwest. To reach this tricky cucco, head to the windmill and use the trees behind it as stepping stones. You’ll need to utilize Echoes like the Table Echo or Trampoline Echo to create platforms: jump onto the tree behind the windmill, then place another platform to reach the windmill’s roof where the cucco is perched. Once you’ve grabbed it, simply glide or climb back down and return it to the pen to complete your roundup.

Cucco #5 will take you a bit further from the village, to the windmill northeast of town – not the one to the northwest. This is the same windmill where you’ll find the calico cat and the secret stash for the “Questioning the local Cats” quest.
Jump up to the trees from the plateau or stack platform echoes (like beds) to make it easier. Keep climbing until you reach the roof of the windmill, where you’ll find the final cucco perched. Grab it and run back to town. Alternatively, you can hold the cucco as you jump off the roof and glide back to the pen in style.
Once you return all five cuccos to the pen, the lady will ask to speak to you and will reward you with a new Fairy Bottle for your trouble.
What secret tricks can help me find the last cucco faster
To find the last cucco faster in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, try these secret tricks:
-
Check Unusual Spots: The final cucco is often in a hard-to-reach or hidden location, such as on rooftops, behind buildings, or in areas that require creative traversal.
-
Use Abilities or Tools: If you have access to abilities like Ascend or items that let you reach high places, use them to check atop structures or trees where a cucco might be perched.
-
Look Near Water: Sometimes, the last cucco can be found on a small rock island in a nearby river. In this case, create a bridge using planks or freeze the water with an Ice Fruit to reach the cucco without dropping it in the water.
-
Wait for the Right Time: In some quests, certain cuccos only appear at night or when specific NPCs are not present. If you can’t find the last cucco, try searching at different times of day or after NPCs have moved away from their usual spots.
-
Listen for Clues: Cuccos make distinctive clucking sounds, so turn up your volume and listen carefully as you explore tricky areas.
These tricks should help you quickly track down that elusive last cucco and complete your quest with ease.
What’s the best time of day to find the last cucco in Kakariko
The best time of day to find the last cucco in Kakariko Village is after 5 PM. Specifically, the cucco in the plum garden cannot be retrieved until after 5 PM because before then, Mellie will yell at you for entering the garden and you will be forced to leave the area. Waiting until after 5 PM or nighttime when Mellie is off duty allows you to access this area and collect the last cucco more easily.
