After hours perfecting your character in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, discovering a flaw in your Rook’s appearance can be frustrating-but fear not. Soon after the prologue, once you reach the Lighthouse, you gain access to the Mirror of Transformation, a magical tool that lets you reshape your hero’s look as often as you like. From hairstyles and tattoos to voice and name, you can fine-tune your appearance without restarting your adventure-though race, class, and faction remain locked. Ready for a fresh face on your epic journey? Here’s how to find the mirror and make your changes.
Where to change your appearance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
To change your appearance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, head to the Lighthouse after completing the game’s prologue quest, “The End of the Beginning.” Inside the Lighthouse, go to the infirmary on the upper floor where you will find Varric resting. In the back corner of the room, you’ll see the Mirror of Transformation. Interacting with this mirror brings up the character customization menu, allowing you to modify almost every aspect of Rook’s physical appearance, such as body shape, hairstyle, facial features, tattoos, and more. However, you cannot change your character’s race, class, or faction here. You can use the mirror as often as you like to update your look throughout the game.
The only progress you need to make before you can change your appearance is that you have to reach the Lighthouse. You’ll get there at the end of “The End of the Beginning,”Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s very first quest – basically the prologue.

In the infirmary where you wake up, you’ll see Varric laying on a bed nearby and he’ll stay there for quite a while. In the southwest corner of the room, you’ll find the Mirror of Transformation – basically, Varric is to your left and the mirror is to your right. There’s even an icon for it on your map (which makes us missing it for so long all the more embarrassing).
Interacting with the mirror will take you back to part of the character creator.
What parts of your appearance can you change in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can change nearly every aspect of your character Rook’s appearance once you reach the Lighthouse, the game’s main hub. By interacting with the Mirror of Transformation located in Varric’s room in the Lighthouse infirmary, you can modify features such as head shape, complexion, body proportions, hairstyle, hair color, makeup, tattoos, scars, and facial details like eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. Additionally, you can alter your character’s name, voice type, and pitch. However, some core elements like race, class, faction, and lineage cannot be changed without starting a new game. This customization is free and can be done as often as you like throughout the game.
You cannot change your lineage, class, or factionand backstory, but you’ll get all of the other physical appearance options and sliders again. That means you can can change the following:
- Head (shape, complexion, and more)
- Body (shape, proportions, and undergarments)
- Eyes (shape, color, and eyebrows)
- Nose (shape)
- Mouth (shape and position)
- Ears (shape and position)
- Hair (style and color)
- Makeup (eye and lip makeup, and blush)
- Body art (tattoos, scars, and paint)
You can also select presets of various looks for your Rook.

You can also change your name and your character’s voice, but (frustratingly) you can’t change your gender identity or pronouns. That said, during “The Enemy of my Enemy” just a little later, you’ll get the opportunity to choose an option that cements your character as trans or non-binary and unlocks a new line of dialogue options throughout the rest of the game.
How can I transform Rook’s appearance without starting over in Dragon Age
You can transform Rook’s appearance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard without starting over by using the Mirror of Transformation, which becomes available early in the game after completing the prologue quest “The End of the Beginning.” Once you reach the Lighthouse and gain control of Rook inside the Infirmary, simply turn around to find the mirror in the back corner of the room and interact with it to re-enter the character creator.
This mirror lets you change almost every aspect of Rook’s physical appearance, including presets, facial features, body shape, hairstyle, makeup, tattoos, and even voice type and pitch. You can also change Rook’s first name here. However, some key elements like race/lineage, class, and faction remain locked and cannot be altered without starting a new game.
You can use the Mirror of Transformation at any time while at the Lighthouse to tweak your character’s look freely and at no cost, giving you the flexibility to perfect your hero’s appearance as your adventure unfolds.
