’Morpeko Onesie’ Timed Research quest steps

The “Morpeko Onesie” Timed Research quest in Pokémon Go, available during the Halloween 2024 event, involves two main stages with a pivotal choice between two paths: Full Belly mode or Hangry mode. The first stage requires players to catch Pokémon, spin PokéStops or Gyms, and power up Pokémon, rewarding them with a Lure Module, a Pikachu encounter, and Silver Pinap Berries. After completing these tasks, players choose their path. Both paths share similar tasks such as catching 25 Pokémon, sending 25 gifts, catching 40 Ghost- or Dark-type Pokémon, and encountering costumed Froakie, Spiritomb, Sableye, and Rowlet. The Full Belly mode path requires using 10 berries to assist catches, while the Hangry mode path involves feeding your buddy 10 times. Each path culminates with encounters with Morpeko and Spiritomb, and rewards a unique Morpeko Onesie avatar item reflecting the chosen mode. The avatar items are purely cosmetic, so the choice depends on player preference.

This quest has two steps, with a branching path choice to be made in the middle. Thanks to LeekDuck with helping fill in the gaps with the following.

’Morpeko Onesie’ step 1 of 2

  • Catch 5 Pokémon (1 Lure Module)
  • Spin 3 PokéStops or Gyms (Pikachu [Witch Hat] encounter)
  • Power up Pokémon 5 times (2x Silver Pinap Berry)

Rewards: 500 XP, 500 Stardust

At this point, you will choose between the “Fully Belly mode” or “Hangry mode.”

You can read our thoughts on which to pick in the next section – otherwise, the steps that follow for both choices are:

’Morpeko Onesie: Fully Belly mode’ (step 2 of 2)

  • Use 10 berries to help catch Pokémon (Morpeko encounter)
  • Earn 10,800 XP (Spiritomb encounter)

Choose a path outcomes: Should you choose Fully Belly mode or Hangry mode?

When choosing between Full Belly mode and Hangry mode in the Pokémon Go Morpeko Onesie Timed Research, the decision primarily affects the avatar item you receive. Full Belly mode features a yellow and brown Morpeko Onesie reflecting Morpeko’s happier, well-fed side, while Hangry mode offers a black and purple Onesie matching Morpeko’s aggressive, hungry form. Both paths involve similar research tasks and reward encounters with the same Pokémon, so the choice comes down to which aesthetic you prefer for your avatar. You can also purchase the alternate Onesie later if you want both styles.

The choice in this “choose a path” research is simple – do you want the Full Belly mode Morpeko Onesie avatar item, or the Hangry mode one?

If you weren’t aware, Morpeko has two modes which it can change between mid-battle, and these avatar items represent those two forms. By completing the quest steps, you can have the choice of one or the other. Avatar items are entirely cosmetic, so it’s all about personal preference over which you prefer.

If you want both, you can purchase the other onesie in the in-game shop for 400 PokéCoins (around $4). This means with this ticketed research, you are buying (with real-world funds) one avatar item, and can use in-game currency for the one you didn’t choose.

Which mode, Full Belly or Hangry, changes how Morpeko appears in battles

Morpeko’s mode-Full Belly or Hangry-directly changes its appearance and battle behavior. It starts battles in Full Belly Mode, where it looks cheerful and its signature move Aura Wheel is Electric-type. After each turn, Morpeko switches to Hangry Mode, adopting a darker, more aggressive look with purple fur and red eyes, and Aura Wheel changes to a Dark-type attack. This Hunger Switch ability causes Morpeko to alternate forms every turn, affecting both its visual form and the type of its charged move during battles.

Which mode, Full Belly or Hangry, causes Morpeko to look more aggressive in battles

Morpeko’s Hangry Mode causes it to look more aggressive in battles. In this mode, its fur turns dark purple, its cheeks glow red, and its eyes become red semi-circles, giving it a menacing and irritable appearance compared to the cheerful look of Full Belly Mode. Hangry Mode also reflects Morpeko’s intense hunger-driven aggression, making it a more dangerous and violent fighter.
