Zelda Echoes of Wisdom The Flying Tile Location and Quest Walkthrough Guide

Guides

In the vast expanse of the Gerudo Desert in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, an unusual challenge awaits those who dare to seek it-a quest to capture the elusive Flying Tile. This shimmering Echo, capable of gliding through the air, isn’t just a quirky collectible; mastering it opens new pathways and secrets in your adventure. Whether you choose to brave the secret cave high above the desert’s northwest cliffs or confront the airborne tiles within the Gerudo Sanctum, this side quest promises a thrilling test of skill and agility. Ready your reflexes, because the Flying Tile won’t wait for long before it takes flight-and so should you.

As the name implies, this object flies over the ground, and serves as a useful way to get across horizontal gaps – so useful, in fact, we’ve named it one of the best echoes you can use in the game.

We’ll detail the titular quest from Echoes of Wisdom, as well as the Flying Tile Echo location, below.

Flying Tile location in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Flying Tile in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom can be found primarily in two locations within the Gerudo Desert region. The easiest and most straightforward spot is inside the Gerudo Sanctum dungeon, specifically on the second floor just after the initial side-scrolling section, where flying tiles glide above the ground and can be captured by pressing the ZR button. Alternatively, players can find a secret cave in the northwestern corner of the Gerudo Desert, located high above a Boarblin camp, where flying tiles also appear and attack upon entry. Capturing the Flying Tile Echo from either location allows players to complete the side quest by returning to Tormali at the Gerudo Desert Oasis, who rewards them with 50 rupees. This Echo is especially useful for quick horizontal traversal across the game world.

The Flying Tile Echo can be found in several places, but the easiest location is within the Gerudo Sanctum dungeon.

Specifically, go to the dungeon’s first waypoint – this is found on the second floor, just after the initial side-scrolling area from where you first enter – and then go one room west, to this room:

You’ll immediately be bombarded with flying tiles as soon as you enter. To learn the echo, just press the ZR button when the prompt appears. If you miss grabbing any before they all shatter, just leave the room and re-enter to try again.

How to start and complete ’The Flying Tile’ quest

To start and complete “The Flying Tile” quest in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, first head to the Gerudo Desert Oasis and speak with the Gerudo woman named Tormali near the palm tree to receive the quest. To find the Flying Tile Echo, proceed to the Gerudo Sanctum dungeon as part of the main story. Once inside, reach the first waypoint on the second floor, then enter the room to the left where you will encounter flying tiles. Quickly press the ZR button to capture the Echo before the tiles break. If you miss it, leave and re-enter the room to try again. After securing the Flying Tile Echo, return to Tormali at the Oasis and show it to her to complete the quest and receive a reward of 50 rupees. Alternatively, the Flying Tile Echo can also be found in a cave in the northwest Gerudo Desert if you prefer to avoid the dungeon.

“The Flying Tile” side quest can be found within the Gerudo Desert Oasis, by talking to this specific character next to a body of water in the middle of the area:

If you have the Flying Tile Echo already, then you simply need to use it in front of them. Otherwise, learn it from the location listed earlier, and return. You’ll receive 50 rupees as your reward for completing the quest.

What secrets does the hidden cave in Gerudo Desert hold for the Flying Tile quest

The hidden cave in the northwestern Gerudo Desert holds several secrets crucial for completing the Flying Tile quest in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Located atop the highest point near Boarblin camps, this cave is the first place where you encounter the Flying Tiles-magical floor tiles that fly at intruders. Inside, you must quickly interact with a glowing tile before it takes flight to learn its Echo, which allows you to summon and briefly ride a Flying Tile later in the game. The cave also features environmental challenges such as strong gusts of wind that require using Boulder Echoes as shields, and enemy ambushes including Gibdos that must be defeated to progress. Additionally, puzzle elements like using Old Bed Echoes to reach switches and obtain keys add depth to the exploration. Successfully navigating these obstacles and learning the Flying Tile Echo here rewards you with 50 Rupees upon returning to the Gerudo Oasis and presenting the Echo to Tormali, the quest giver.

What hidden rewards or secrets are inside the northwest Gerudo Desert cave

The hidden cave in the northwest Gerudo Desert, known as the Northwest Gerudo Cliffs Cave or Flying Tile Cave in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, offers several intriguing rewards and secrets. Inside, players can obtain the Flying Tile Echo, which allows summoning and riding a Flying Tile, a unique ability that aids exploration. The cave also contains a treasure chest with 100 Rupees, accessible by solving puzzles involving summoning flying monsters and using Flying Tiles to reach switches. The cave is guarded by Boarblins outside and filled with enemies like Keese and Octoroks inside, adding combat challenges. Additionally, the cave features tactical elements such as using bulky objects to block Flying Tile attacks. This cave is an optional but rewarding location that enriches the Gerudo Desert experience.

Separately, the nearby West Gerudo Underground Ruins, accessible through a hole blocked by rocks near a large rib cage, hide the Vah Naboris Divine Helm. This treasure is found by following the direction of warrior statues pointing through the ruins, breaking rocks to progress, and defeating enemies. The helm is a valuable reward linked to the “Treasure of the Gerudo Desert” side quest, which requires prior completion of the Gerudo Desert regional phenomena and interaction with Riju in Gerudo Town.
