Guides

Unleash devastating new powers in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree with 19 fresh sorcery spells scattered across the treacherous new realms. From the hidden ledges of Castle Ensis to the eerie depths of Stone Coffin Fissure, this guide reveals every secret location where you can claim these potent magics and turn the tide of battle in your favor.

Gravesite Plain spells

Gravesite Plain in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is a vast and haunting region filled with ghostly gravestones and numerous challenging bosses. It serves as the initial area players encounter upon entering the Shadow Realm, accessed after defeating key bosses in the base game. This expansive plain features multiple dungeons, Sites of Grace, and important map fragments, making it a critical hub for exploration and progression. Several new sorcery spells can be found throughout Gravesite Plain, often hidden in dungeons or on corpses in hard-to-reach locations, rewarding players who thoroughly explore this eerie landscape.

Gravesite Plain is the first region you’ll battle through in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. You’ll find multiple Sorceries and Incantations here. Here’s what we’ve found so far.

Watchful Spirit

In Belurat castle, in the western part of Gravesite Plain, you can earn the Watchful Spirit Incantation by using the Storeroom Key and helping Hornsent Grandam with her quest.

Electrocharge

Inside the Fog Rift Catacombs, fall into the basement via the pit in the long smasher room. Before you climb back up, look for a square room with a bunch of blobs and a spellcaster. Next to the spellcaster, you’ll find a corpse that has a pillar of light coming out of it. Interact with it to get the Electrocharge Incantation.

Glintblade Trio

After you defeat Moonrithyll in Castle Ensis on the east side of Gravesite Plain, go through the chapel and back outside. You’ll get attacked by some enemies on the roof. Drop down near the gate at the top of the stairs and run around on the cliffside until you find a ladder. Climb up the ladder and defeat the enemies on top of the building.

Once you’re safe, walk onto the connecting rooftop and look to your right. You’ll see a small courtyard and a body with a pillar of light hovering on it. Drop down into the courtyard and loot the body to get the Glintblade Trio Sorcery.

Cerulean Coast spells

The Cerulean Coast is one of the main areas in the Realm of Shadow and contains a map fragment for those wanting to fully explore the world. You can get to the Cerulean Coast right away in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC if you know the way, which requires going through a series of underground caverns that travel underneath the starting area. To get there, start at the Castle Front Site of Grace, head southeast past the enemy camps, go through the poison swamp, head north along the trail, and go down to a riverbed.

The Cerulean Coast is the ocean biome in the southern part of the Shadow Realm, and you can get there via Jagged Peak or Gravesite Plain. It has a few spells for you to collect.

Rings of Spectral Light

The Rings of Light spell is in the area of Cerulean Coast with the red flowers, just north of the Charo’s Hidden Grave Site of Grace. You’ll come across a statue of a giant Gravebird, surrounded by smaller Gravebird statues. At the foot of the statue is the Rings of Spectral Light Sorcery. But be warned: when you pick it up a gaggle of Gravebirds will attack you.

Mass of Putrescence

In the Stone Fissure Coffin dungeon, just as you reach the skeletal warriors but before you reach the Misbegotten Crusader miniboss, you’ll find a hidden path off the cliff to your left. Jump down and cross the stone bridge. On the other side you’ll find the Mass of Putrescence Sorcery.

Multilayered Ring of Light

In the Stone Coffin Fissure dungeon, progress your way through until you meet the Misbegotten Crusader, a spectral monster who will attack you on the main path. Defeat the miniboss and you’ll earn the Multilayered Ring of Light Incantation.

Scadu Altus spells

Scadu Altus is a key region introduced in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, located northeast of Gravesite Plain and accessible primarily by defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, in Castle Ensis. This area features the Shadow Keep at its center and is notable for its dense concentration of Scadutree Fragments and new sorcery spells. Within Scadu Altus, players can explore secret passages, such as the one east of the Shadow Keep’s Back Gate Site of Grace, to discover powerful new spells added in the DLC. These spells, along with the region’s challenging enemies and rich lore, make Scadu Altus a crucial destination for sorcerers seeking to expand their magical arsenal in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Scadu Altus is the second major area in Shadow of the Erdtree, and it’s absolutely massive. You’ll find a handful of Sorceries and Incantations to add to your collection here. Here’s what we’ve found so far.

Golden Arcs

In Moorth Ruins, which is in the southeast region of Scadu Altus, make your way into the pit via the broken building. Carefully drop to the ground floor by rolling to the broken arch. Jump one more time and fight some enemies. With the area clear, go through a nearby doorway and open a chest to get the Golden Arcs Incantation.

Heal from Afar

To the southeast of the main road, in the lower area of Scadu Altus, you’ll find a pool of water that leads into a cave. Follow the path.

Inside the cave you’ll find some magic users, a field of yellow flowers, and a glowing yellow tree. Kill the enemies and grab the Heal from Afar Incantation, which is resting at the trunk of the tree.

Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns

Inside Shadow Keep, the massive dungeon in north Scadu Altus, you’ll fight the Golden Hippopotamus as soon as you enter the castle. When you kill it, you’ll earn the Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns Incantation.

Giant Golden Arc

The Giant Golden Arc Incantation is in a chest in the Castle Watering Hole area in Scadu Altus. To reach this hidden area, you need to find a hidden passageway in Shadow Keep and jump in a sarcophagus. Once you arrive, awaken and kill the Furnace Golem blocking the entrance to the Ruins of Unte. Inside, enter the small building and open the chest to get Giant Golden Arc.

Impenetrable Thorns

In the Specimen Storehouse, make your way toward Messmer’s tower by climbing as far up into Shadow Keep as you can. When you reach the bridge to his tower, go down the flight of steps that you just came up and look over the side of the platform you’re on. You’ll see a bat enemy hanging out below. Carefully jump down onto the bat and kill it. Against the wall nearby, you’ll find a body. Loot it to earn the Impenetrable Thorns Sorcery.

Miriam’s Vanishing

You can purchase Miriam’s Vanishing Sorcery from Count Ymir for 10,000 Runes.

Glintstone Nail

You can purchase Glintstone Nail from Count Ymir for 12,000 Runes. It’ll unlock once you progress his quest further.

Glintstone Nails

Fleeting Microcosm

You can purchase Fleeting Microcosm from Count Ymir for 20,000 Runes. It’ll unlock once you progress his quest further.

Cherishing Fingers

After you defeat Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers, as part of Count Ymir’s quest, go to the cemetery west of the cathedral. On one of the tombstones, you’ll find the Cherishing Fingers Sorcery.

Mantle of Thorns

In the Church District of Shadow Keep, drain the water and then make your way down to the area that’s no longer flooded. Find the big tree in the middle of the area. Walk up to it and you’ll be attacked by a Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit – the giant root dragon. Kill it and you’ll earn the Mantle of Thorns Sorcery.

Fire Serpent

At the Storehouse, Back Section Site of Grace in Shadow Keep – which you can get to by way of Bonny Village in Scadu Altus – climb up the massive ladder to reach the upper area. Climb the stairs and make your way right until you reach a balcony. You’ll find the Fire Serpent Incantation on a body.

Wrath from Afar

At the Storehouse, Loft Site of Grace, step on the elevator and let it carry you up to the rafters. When you get off, you’ll see a cog ahead of you with an item on it. Use the nearby ladder to climb up a floor and carefully run around – killing the bat enemies so they don’t knock you off – until you’re above the cog. Jump off and loot the body to get the Wrath from Afar Incantation.

Minor Erdtree

In the Hinterland area of Scadu Altus, through the secret passageway east of the Shadow Keep, Back Gate Site of Grace, you’ll find Shaman Village on the ridge. Before you even approach any buildings, you’ll see a gold glow in the middle of the field. Interact with it to get the Minor Erdtree Incantation.

Jagged Peak spells

The Jagged Peak in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a perilous southeastern region filled with narrow cliffside paths, lightning strikes, and dragon encounters. To reach it, players must navigate through the Pillar Path Waypoint, where they meet a character named Igon, and then carefully traverse the treacherous terrain. At the peak, a challenging boss fight awaits, offering a memorable experience and a nod to Game of Thrones. This area also features unique rewards, such as the Ghostflame Breath incantation, obtainable by exchanging Dragon Hearts at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, making Jagged Peak a key location for acquiring powerful new spells in the DLC.

Jagged Peak is a minor area filled with dragons and some difficult boss fights. You can unlock one spell here.

Ghostflame Breath

You can unlock the Ghostflame Breath Incantation by offering three Dragon hearts to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion vendor in eastern Jagged Peak.

Ancient Ruins of Rauh spells

In the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, a key location in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players can discover several powerful new spells. One notable spell, Pest-Thread Spears, is found under the stairs leading to the Church of the Bud in the western part of the ruins. This area is challenging, filled with enemies like Shadow Undead and the Furnace Golem boss, but rewards diligent explorers with unique incantations essential for enhancing their magical arsenal. Access to the ruins requires progressing through the Shadow Keep and navigating the flooded, overgrown ruins split by a chasm, making the discovery of these spells a rewarding part of the DLC’s exploration experience.

The Ancient Ruins of Rauh is the final area in Shadow of the Erdtree, and you’ll encounter several new spells to learn here.

Rain of Fire

At the end of the long bridge to the west of Shadow Keep, you’ll fight a Flame Knight who belches fire on you from above. Defeat them to earn the Rain of Fire Incantation.

Roar of Rugalea

In western Ruins of Rauh, in the below woods, you’ll find a boss called Rugalea the Great Red Bear wandering around. Defeat the boss and you’ll earn the Roar of Rugalea Incantation.

Divine Bird Feathers

From the Rauh Ancient Ruins, West Site of Grace, climb up the stairs and the elevator until you reach the top floor. Go to the gazebo in the middle of the water and fight the warrior with the bird helm. On a corpse in the river you’ll find the Divine Bird Feathers Incantation.

Divine Beast Tornado

In a special arena on the highest floor of the ancient ruins, you’ll find another Divine Beast Dancing Lion, which can use Deathblight against you. Defeat it and it’ll drop the Divine Beast Tornado Incantation.

Aspect of the Crucible: Bloom

The Aspect of the Crucible: Bloom spell is in a massive ruin on the northern part of the western plateau in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. Make your way to the ruin and you’ll find a poisonous plant inside. Kill it and loot the nearby area to get the Aspect of the Crucible: Bloom Incantation.

Pest-Thread Spears

On the third floor of the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, you’ll find a giant staircase in a room filled with Scarlet Rot. On the back side of the staircase, you’ll find the Pest Thread Spears Incantation.

Spira

In the Enir-Ilim fortress, progress until you find a courtyard with a massive tree in the middle. Climb onto the tree’s branches and follow them left toward a single stone island that houses an altar and an enemy. Kill the enemy and loot the Spira Incantation from the altar.

Furious Blade of Ansbach

After defeating Promised Consort Radahn, the final boss in Enir-Ilim, you’ll find Sir Ansbach’s body in the arena if you did his quest. (Note that you don’t need to have summoned him for the actual fight in order for his loot to appear). Loot his body to get the Furious Blade of Ansbach Incantation.

What secret powers do the new DLC spells unlock in Elden Ring

The new DLC spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree unlock a range of secret powers that dramatically enhance offensive, defensive, and utility capabilities. These include devastating incantations such as firing golden projectiles and shockwaves that knock back foes, summoning pillars of light to annihilate enemies, and unleashing multilayered rings of light that continuously inflict damage. Sorceries introduce powerful effects like concealing the caster in a glintstone haze, summoning twin moons to strike the ground repeatedly, and manipulating gravity to pull enemies in or summon rock blades from the earth. Defensive spells include covering oneself with impenetrable thorns from the Scadutree, while other incantations bolster allies with red lightning or emit fearsome roars to disrupt foes. These spells require high-level stats and offer some of the most potent magical abilities in the game, allowing players to tailor their combat style with new, formidable powers exclusive to the DLC.

What unique effects do the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC spells provide

The new spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC provide several unique effects that expand combat versatility and strategic options:

  • Aspects of the Crucible: Bloom and Thorns summon waves of deadly thorns that deal solid damage and massive blood loss buildup, making them highly effective for inflicting bleed on enemies. The thorns come in multiple waves, allowing repeated hits on targets.

  • Blades of Stone summons rock blades from the earth, dealing physical damage with high stagger potential. When charged, it fires three projectiles, increasing damage output. This spell is especially effective against enemies resistant to magic damage.

  • Multilayered Ring of Light creates a ring of spectral light that fires in unison, dealing frostbite and magic damage. It can be charged to increase damage but may struggle to track highly mobile targets.

  • Land of Shadow and other incantations from the DLC often deal holy damage and can be boosted by specific charms and gear, enhancing their effectiveness against certain foes.

  • Impenetrable Thorns is considered one of the most powerful new spells, summoning waves of thorns that not only deal damage but also build up significant bleed status, making it devastating in both PvE and PvP.

  • Some spells summon powerful elemental effects such as golden arcs, lightning spears, or divine beast tornadoes, adding visually impressive and tactically diverse options.

These unique effects combine physical, magical, holy, and status-inflicting damage types, allowing players to tailor their spellcasting to different combat scenarios and enemy weaknesses.
