Hades 2 Thalamus Guide: How to Find and Use It

Guides

To survive the perilous Surface realm in Hades 2, you’ll need to master the art of growing Thalamus-a rare and elusive crafting material that can’t be harvested by hand or looted from bosses. Unlocking this vital resource means venturing into the mysterious Chaos realm through Chaos Gates, digging up Origin Seeds with your Silver Shovel, and nurturing them back at the Crossroads. Only then can you craft the crucial “Unraveling a Fateful Bond” incantation that lets Melinoë endure the surface’s deadly curse and push the story forward.

What thalamus is used for in Hades 2

Thalamus is a rare and vital crafting material in Hades 2, primarily used to cast the incantation “Unraveling of a Fateful Bond,” which is essential for survival on the surface. This incantation requires two each of lotus, nightshade, moss, and thalamus, and it allows Melinoë to explore the surface by counteracting a life-draining curse that would otherwise kill her before she can progress. Currently, thalamus is mainly used for this incantation, though it may have expanded uses as the game continues to develop in early access.

You’ll need to get thalamus to cast “Unraveling of a Fateful Bond” incantation that allows you to survive on the Surface (and get some bronze for unlocking all weapons). You’ll need two each of four ingredients to create this incantation: lotus, nightshade, moss, and thalamus.

Moss is simple enough to find. Just head up to the surface and look for little green patches on the ground. Pick them up before the curse kills you, and repeat that process until you have two.

Thalamus is much more confusing to get, as you can’t find it on its lonesome. To grow thalamus, you’ll need origin seeds.

How to get thalamus from origin seeds in Hades 2

To acquire Thalamus in Hades 2, you must first obtain Origin Seeds, which are only found in the Chaos Realm by using the Silver Spade on digging spots that appear after entering a Chaos Gate during your Underworld runs. Once you have Origin Seeds, return to the Crossroads and plant them in soil plots, which can be unlocked by casting the Flourishing Soil Incantation. After planting, wait through seven “Whiles” (either by completing runs or resting in the Crossroads Hot Springs) for the seeds to grow into Thalamus, a rare plant crucial for key incantations and story progression.

Thalamus is not a plant that you can randomly find and pick, like moly or the aforementioned moss. Instead, it’s a plant you’ll need to grow, like nightshade. Origin seeds are only found in Chaos’ realm.

Grab your Silver Spade tool and your weapon of choice and dive into an Underworld run. Continue along until you find a Chaos Gate, which will take you to Chaos’ realm. Pop on in for a visit and you should find a mound of dirt located somewhere in the realm of Chaos. Use your Silver Spade to dig up some origin seeds.

You’ll need two seeds in order to finish this quest, so keep visiting Chaos until you have both.

With two origin seeds in your little satchel, head back to the Crossroads. Plant your seeds in the soil that you should’ve already unlocked via an earlier incantation, “Flourishing Soil.” Origin seeds take seven whiles to grow, so head back into the Underworld for another run, or head up to the surface for seven quick-but-doomed encounters.

How can I efficiently find and grow Thalamus in Hades 2

To efficiently find and grow Thalamus in Hades 2, follow these key steps:

  • Unlock the Silver Spade in the Armory for 10 silver, which is essential for digging up Origin Seeds from the ground.

  • Enter Chaos Gates that appear randomly during your runs in the Underworld or on the Surface. These gates lead to the Chaos Realm where you can find digging spots to unearth Origin Seeds using the Silver Spade.

  • Collect Origin Seeds from these digging spots in the Chaos Realm. Chaos may also gift you an Origin Seed after your first journey to the Surface.

  • Plant the Origin Seeds in the garden beds at the Crossroads, which you unlock via the “Flourishing Soil” Incantation. The seeds take seven “whiles” (game cycles) to mature into Thalamus plants.

  • Harvest Thalamus from the grown plants to obtain two Thalamus per harvest. You can speed up growth by waiting in hot springs or the Taverna once unlocked.

  • Repeat runs with the Silver Spade equipped and prioritize visiting Chaos Gates whenever possible to maximize your chances of collecting more Origin Seeds.

This method is currently the only way to obtain Thalamus, a crucial resource needed to craft the “Unraveling a Fateful Bond” Incantation that allows Melinoë to survive on the Surface and progress the story.

What’s the fastest way to unlock the Silver Spade in Hades 2

The fastest way to unlock the Silver Spade in Hades 2 is as follows:

  1. Complete the Night’s Craftwork Incantation at the cauldron in the Crossroads hub. This requires 1x Moly, a yellow flower found in Erebus when it is not raining. Completing this incantation unlocks the Gathering Tools menu in Melinoë’s room at the Silver Pool.

  2. Forge and equip the Crescent Pick first, since it is required to gather Silver. The Crescent Pick requires 1x Ashes, which are commonly found as rewards in dungeons.

  3. Collect 10x Silver by mining Silver ore nodes in the Erebus zone using the Crescent Pick. Silver nodes appear as large sparkling rocks and can be mined multiple times.

  4. Once you have 10 Silver in your inventory, return to the Silver Pool and unlock the Silver Spade using the Silver you collected. This allows you to equip the Silver Spade for digging seeds and seedlings during your runs.

In summary, the key steps are unlocking Night’s Craftwork, forging the Crescent Pick to mine Silver, gathering 10 Silver, and then unlocking the Silver Spade at the Silver Pool.
