Dragon s Dogma 2 Ornate Box Quest Guide – Buy or Keep Money Decisions

Guides

Caught between generosity and strategy, the Ornate Box quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 invites players to decide whether to buy a seemingly simple item for a young man named Sven in Vernworth’s bustling market. But this choice is far from trivial – your decision unlocks unique rewards, including rare attire and valuable items that could shape your journey. Should you invest your gold in Sven’s dreams, or hold onto your coins? Here’s what you need to know before making the call.

Our Dragon’s Dogma 2 walkthrough will show how to start the “Ornate Box” side quest. We’ll also explain if you should buy the Ornate Box, and the rewards you get for completing the quest.

Should you give Flora medicine in Melve?

Giving Flora medicine in Melve by completing the Medicament Predicament quest is highly recommended early in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Flora, a young apothecary trainee, asks for a Fruit Roborant, a healing item you can either buy, find, or craft yourself. Helping her rewards you with 100 G, 500 XP, and a Ring of Exultation. Additionally, Flora’s gratitude grants you a discount at her grandfather’s shop in Vernworth, which can save you money on future purchases. This discount becomes especially beneficial later when buying the Ornate Box, making the quest a valuable early investment for your adventure.

Early in the game, you’ll meet a young girl named Flora outside the apothecary in Melve. You can give her a fruit roborant – either by buying one at the apothecary or making one from dried fruit (made from two pieces of ripened fruit) and an herb like greenwarish or morningtide.

You should do this – it will pay off later on in the “Ornate Box” quest.

Should you lie to Norman in Vernworth?

If you lie to Norman in Vernworth in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the mysterious boy named Sven will thank you and promise to meet you later, which triggers the Ornate Box quest. This choice leads to valuable rewards, including rare items like Jasper, Ring of Accrual, Ferrystone, and a set of Courtly Clothes essential for future quests. Although Norman will still catch Sven eventually, lying unlocks this beneficial side quest and its rewards, making it the more advantageous option compared to telling the truth, which locks you out of the Ornate Box quest and its benefits.

When you reach the capital of Venworth, the first person you’ll meet is Captain Brant. After you leave your interrogation (well, “interrogation”) with him, you’ll bump into a young man being chased by a guard. You’ve got the option to turn him in or lie to protect him. If you lie, he’ll thank you – but you won’t learn his name yet.

You should do this – not only will it pay off, but c’mon, Norman is a total narc.

Should you buy the Ornate Box in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

The Ornate Box in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a key item in a side quest where you help a young man named Sven acquire it from a merchant in Vernworth. You have two choices: either lend Sven 1,000 G to buy the box himself or buy the Ornate Box directly and give it to him. If you helped Flora earlier in the game, you get a 20% discount on the box, making it more economical to buy it yourself. Buying the box grants you rewards such as a Jasper, Ring of Accrual, Ferrystone, Courtly Clothes, and some gold, while lending money results in more gold but no unique items. Both options yield the Courtly Clothes set, essential for future quests. Overall, it is generally recommended to buy the Ornate Box yourself to maximize rewards and support Sven’s storyline, especially if you have the discount.

Later in Venworth, you’ll find Flora and her father, Auriol, at a stall in the main square. He’s selling a mysterious ornate box for 1,000 gold, but if you gave her the medicine, he’ll give you a 20% discount. Don’t buy it yet, though.

Nearby, you’ll find the urchin (who is decidedly not dressed like an urchin) you met earlier – you might even spot him arguing with Auriol.

He’ll tell you his name, and about wanting to buy the ornate box. He doesn’t have the money for it, so he’ll ask for a loan so he can buy it. You’ll save 200 gold if you buy it yourself and then deliver it to him.

’Ornate Box’ rewards in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The Ornate Box quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers players a choice between lending money to Sven or buying the Ornate Box for him directly, each path yielding different rewards. If you give Sven the money, you eventually receive 4,000 G and a set of Courtly Clothes, essential for castle-related quests. Alternatively, buying the box yourself grants you a Jasper gem, a Ring of Accrual that increases carrying capacity, a Ferrystone for fast travel, the same Courtly Clothes, and slightly less gold (around 4,000 G). The quest unfolds over several in-game days, with Sven returning to provide incremental rewards including the Jasper and Ring of Accrual. Overall, the Ornate Box rewards include valuable items like the Courtly Breeches and Tunic, gold, and useful travel and inventory enhancements, making the quest worthwhile for players regardless of the choice made.

Once you hand over the ornate box, Sven will say he’d like to repay you someday and you’ll get the infuriatingly vague quest objective, “receive recompense from Sven in a few days’ time.”

The next day, you’ll find Sven sitting at the fountain in the main square. If you sit and speak with him, he’ll tell you more about himself and reward you with a jasper.

You’ll find him in the same spot the day after that. This time, after another conversation, he’ll give you a Ring of Accrual, an accessory that increases your inventory size when equipped.

If you seek him out in the same spot on a third day, he’ll thank you again and give you one final gift: a ferrystone that you can use to fast travel to a portcrystal you’ve activated.

Should I buy the Ornate Box to help Sven or for the rewards

You should buy the Ornate Box yourself for Sven rather than just giving him the money, as this approach yields better rewards and a richer quest experience. Buying the box (especially if you have the Medicament Predicament discount) costs less gold and leads to Sven repaying you with valuable items such as a Jasper, the Ring of Accrual, a Ferrystone, and the Courtly Breeches and Tunic, along with some gold. In contrast, simply lending Sven the money results in him paying you back a total of 1,000G and the Courtly Set if you lied to the guard, but you miss out on the additional unique items like the Ferrystone and Ring of Accrual. Moreover, buying the box yourself deepens your connection to Sven’s story and his role in the game’s narrative.

Should I buy the Ornate Box to help Sven or for the rewards

You should buy the Ornate Box yourself to give to Sven rather than just lending him the money, as this yields better rewards and a richer quest experience. Buying the box (especially if you have the Medicament Predicament discount) costs less gold (800G vs. 1000G) and results in Sven repaying you with valuable items including a Jasper, the Ring of Accrual, a Ferrystone, and the Courtly Breeches and Tunic, plus some gold. In contrast, giving Sven the money leads to him paying you back a total of 500G and the Courtly Set only if you lied to the guard, missing out on unique items like the Ferrystone and Ring of Accrual. Additionally, buying the box yourself deepens your connection to Sven’s story and his role in the game’s narrative, making it the more rewarding choice overall.
