Dragon s Dogma 2 Vocations Guide Find All Classes and Their Requirements

Guides

From humble beginnings to arcane mastery, Dragon’s Dogma 2 hides its most powerful vocations behind cryptic quests and elusive mentors. Whether you crave brute force, mystical prowess, or a hybrid of both, unlocking every class isn’t just about leveling up-it’s about exploration, cunning, and a keen eye for secrets. Ready to transform your Arisen into the ultimate adventurer? Here’s how to uncover every vocation the world has to offer.

Most vocations fall neatly into established archetypes of fantasy fare: Archers shoot arrows and wear funny hats, Mages cast spells and wear funny robes, Thieves stab people with daggers. But is there really a huge difference between a Fighter and a Warrior? And what the hell is a Mystic Spearhand?

In this Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide, we’ll detail how to unlock all vocations, plus offer details about what each one is best at, and some advice on which vocation to pick at the start of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

All vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 features a total of ten vocations, or classes, each offering unique playstyles and abilities for players to master. At the start of the game, you can choose from four basic vocations: Fighter, Archer, Mage, and Thief. As you progress, six more advanced vocations become available to unlock: Warrior, Sorcerer, Trickster, Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, and Warfarer. While the first six vocations can be used by both the player and their pawns, the Trickster, Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, and Warfarer are exclusive to the player character. Each vocation brings its own strengths, from the raw power of the Warrior to the versatile hybrid abilities of the Mystic Spearhand and the unique flexibility of the Warfarer, ensuring a diverse range of combat and support options as you explore the world.

There are 10 vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Four are available when you first create your character: Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Mage. A few hours into the game, you’ll be able to unlock the Sorcerer and Warrior vocations through a quest at the Vernworth Vocation Guild. You can assign any of these six vocations to your main pawn, and you can hire pawns (and swap between them) of any of these vocations at the Vocation Guild.

There are four additional vocations you can play as that aren’t available to pawns: Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster, and Warfarer.

What vocation to choose in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Choosing the right vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 depends entirely on your preferred playstyle, as each class offers a distinct approach to combat and exploration. The four starting vocations-Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Mage-are all viable and provide unique skills and augments that can be shared across classes as you progress. Fighters excel in frontline melee combat with sword and shield, Archers specialize in ranged attacks, Thieves are agile and deal quick melee damage, while Mages wield powerful spells for offense and support. As you advance, you’ll unlock more complex vocations like Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, and Warfarer, each offering specialized mechanics and flexibility. Don’t hesitate to experiment: you can freely switch vocations at vocation guilds, allowing you to find the class that best suits your evolving strategy and enjoyment.

You’ll be prompted to select a vocation while creating a character in Dragon’s Dogma 2 – notably before you get a chance to try any of them out. While you’re not locked into your choice, it’ll be a bit before you can switch things up, meaning the first vocation you choose is fairly important.

As mentioned, the four starter vocations neatly fall along the lines of typical fantasy archetypes. The Mage offers arguably the highest DPS in the early hours, and is a healer to boot. The Archer is effective at peppering multiple enemies in a fight and precisely hitting weak points on larger enemies. But neither has a ton of health, nor can they wear the heaviest armor sets, so you’ll end up keeping your distance in battle. The Fighter, on the other hand, is the sturdiest starting vocation by far. But since it mostly engages in close-quarters combat, you still may have some trouble in the early hours (unless you travel with a Mage pawn who can help you out with healing magic).

While you can’t go wrong with those three, your best bet is the Thief. Thieves are as tactile as they are tactical, striking a balance between melee combat and tricky abilities. And while their defense is nothing compared to Fighters, they can stand up to a lot more punishment than the two ranged starter classes. But the best part? The Thief specializes in crawling around big monsters, which is kind of the selling point for Dragon’s Dogma 2. Just a few ranks into the vocation, you’ll unlock bombs that you can plant on bosses, or the ability to light your blades on fire in the middle of a climb.

Of course, choosing a vocation is ultimately a matter of preference and personal taste. For more detailed information about all of the vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 – including how to unlock those you don’t start with – read on.

Fighter

The Fighter vocation is one of the four starting classes available in Dragon’s Dogma 2, accessible right from the beginning of the game during character creation. Fighters specialize in close-range combat, wielding swords and shields to both deal damage and protect themselves and their allies. To switch to the Fighter vocation, simply visit any Vocation Guild or innkeeper offering vocation changes, and spend 100 Discipline Points (Dcp), which are earned by defeating enemies and completing quests. Once unlocked, you can freely switch to Fighter at any time without additional cost, making it an ideal choice for players who enjoy a balanced, frontline combat style.

How to unlock: Starter vocation
Weapons: Swords, maces, and shields

The Fighter is your classic sword-and-board kind of character, offering a decent mix of offense and defense. It’s a great starter class because it gives you a chance to be aggressive, testing out how melee combat works in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (and also unlocks an augment that can increase your inventory size). The Fighter vocation really opens up as you get a grasp on the game and start mastering how to block, slash, and counter.

Archer

The Archer vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the four starting classes available to players from the very beginning of the game. Specializing in ranged combat, Archers wield bows to pick off enemies from a distance, making them ideal for players who prefer to stay out of the fray and attack from afar. To select Archer, simply choose it during character creation or visit the first inn at Borderwatch Outpost, where you can unlock and switch between the starting vocations using Discipline Points (Dcp) earned through quests and battles. Archers have access to unique weapon and core skills, which can be further enhanced as you rank up and spend more Dcp, allowing for greater versatility and power in ranged encounters.

How to unlock: Starter vocation
Weapons: Bows

The Archer is your prototypical ranged class. It allows you to get a bigger picture of the battlefield and step back from whatever monster you’re taking on. This extra distance makes you extremely effective at nailing the weak points on larger monsters, dealing massive damage and sometimes even bringing those foes crashing to the ground. Plus, it’s the best class for dealing with harpies and other flying creatures, which is a huge boon early on in the game.

Mage

The Mage is one of the four basic vocations available from the very start of Dragon’s Dogma 2, requiring no special quest or condition to unlock. Specializing in ranged magick, the Mage excels at supporting the party with healing spells, elemental buffs, and powerful offensive magick attacks. Wielding a staff, Mages can enchant allies’ weapons with fire, ice, or lightning, heal wounds, and unleash area-of-effect spells to control the battlefield. While their versatility and support abilities make them invaluable in group play, Mages are physically frail and must carefully manage positioning and casting times to avoid being interrupted or overwhelmed. This vocation is ideal for players who enjoy a blend of offensive and support roles, offering a strategic and dynamic playstyle right from the beginning of the game.

How to unlock: Starter vocation
Weapons: Staves

Mages are spellcasters capable of dealing a ton of damage – as long as you have the patience. Casting spells is a little strange in Dragon’s Dogma 2; the process involves charging up your energy while standing still or moving extremely slowly. But even from low levels, once your spells are ready, you can unleash lightning storms or flamethrowers on monsters. Mages also specialize in support magic, which can help you heal pawns or imbue their weapons with fire.

Thief

The Thief vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a starting class available to both the Arisen and their pawns right from the beginning of the game. Specializing in speed, agility, and cunning, the Thief wields twin daggers and excels at quick, close-range attacks, allowing players to dart in and out of combat while keeping enemies off balance. This class is ideal for those who enjoy a fast-paced, hit-and-run playstyle, as Thieves can rapidly scale larger foes and target weak points with precision. To unlock and switch to the Thief vocation, simply visit any Vocation Guild or innkeeper, and spend 100 Discipline Points (Dcp), which are earned through combat and completing quests.

How to unlock: Starter vocation
Weapons: Daggers

As a Thief, you can dash around the battlefield with two daggers and use abilities that make it harder for enemies to spot you. You may not have much health compared to other melee-focused vocations, but you can deal extreme damage if you manage to pin a target down and shank them. But the best part of playing as a Thief is just how good you’ll be at climbing monsters and taking them down with various bombs, ropes, and devastating stabs.

Warrior

Warrior

The Warrior vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is unlocked by completing the “Vocation Frustration” quest, which becomes available once you reach the capital city of Vernworth. To start, visit the Vocation Guild beneath the inn and speak with the guildhead, who will inform you that special weapons needed for the Warrior and Sorcerer vocations have been stolen. After talking to the armorer, you’ll be directed to Trevo Mine, where you must recover a greatsword and an archistaff from chests inside the mine. Return both weapons to the guild to unlock the Warrior vocation, granting access to powerful two-handed greatswords and aggressive melee combat focused on heavy attacks.

How to unlock: Complete the “Vocation Frustration” quest or find a greatsword
Weapons: Greatswords, hammers

Warriors are Fighters who swap shields for twice as much sword. You’ll swing your weapon slowly, but will be capable of dishing out some of the highest damage values in the game. In terms of skills, Warriors and Fighters have very similar offerings, but where Fighters are balanced, Warriors demand a risk-vs.-reward playstyle. If you’re first starting out with Dragon’s Dogma 2, Warrior might be a struggle. But once you learn monster behavior and can plan accordingly, you can slice through anything with ease.

Sorcerer

The Sorcerer is one of the advanced vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2, specializing in powerful offensive magic and wielding the archistaff as its signature weapon. To unlock the Sorcerer vocation, you must first reach the capital city of Vernworth as part of the main story progression. Once there, visit the Vocation Guild located beneath the inn and speak to the guildhead, who will initiate the quest “Vocation Frustration”. This quest tasks you with retrieving two stolen weapons-a greatsword and an archistaff-from the Trevo Mine, which is marked on your map after speaking with the local armorer, Roderick. After collecting both items from the mine and returning them to the guild, the Sorcerer (along with the Warrior) vocation becomes available for you and your pawns to select, provided you have enough Discipline Points (Dcp) to unlock it.

How to unlock: Complete the “Vocation Frustration” quest or find an archistaff
Weapons: Archistaves

Sorcerers and Mages share a lot of similarities in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (in fact, they share many spells), but where the Mage helps others with more selfless magic and healing, the Sorcerer is an offensive magic powerhouse. With your archistaff, you’ll be able to obliterate foes with an explosion of fire damage or even a turret made of lightning. Just know you’ll need to rely on your pawns to protect you while you conjure those extremely powerful magic spells.

Mystic Spearhand

The Mystic Spearhand is a unique and powerful vocation exclusive to the Arisen in Dragon’s Dogma 2, combining swift melee attacks with magick-infused abilities using the distinctive Duospear. To unlock it, you must progress through early main quests-specifically completing Captain Brant’s Monster Culling mission and then returning to Melve, where a dragon attack will trigger the Readvent of Calamity quest. After repelling the dragon, seek out Sigurd-identifiable by his red and black armor and Duospear-near the east end of Melve and ask him about his fighting style; this will grant you access to the Mystic Spearhand vocation at any Vocation Guild for 200 Dcp. If you miss Sigurd in Melve, you can also find him at his Coastal Hut in Harve Village after the Coronation, or later in the game near Dragonsbreath Tower in Batthal.

How to unlock: Finish “Monster Culling” and find Sigurd
Weapons: Duospear

Mystic Spearhands uses a double-sided spear to mix magic and melee together. With your Duospear, you can become a whirlwind of damage, slicing monsters and enemies with both sides until they go down. However, while you can wear some decent armor, you don’t have nearly as many defensive skills as Fighter or even Thief, so relentless offense is your best bet for success.

Trickster

The Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a unique, Arisen-exclusive class focused on deception and support. To unlock the Trickster, you must travel to the Reverent Shrine in Battahl, which becomes accessible after obtaining a Border Entry Permit-typically earned by completing Captain Brant’s questline in Vernworth. Once inside Battahl, head to the shrine and speak with Luz, who will grant you the ability to become a Trickster. This vocation specializes in using illusions to confuse enemies and can provide valuable support to your pawns, making it a distinct choice for players seeking a more strategic and unconventional playstyle.

How to unlock: Reach Battahl and find Luz
Weapons: Censer

As a Trickster, your job is to buff your pawns and confuse enemies with illusions. Your skills and attacks deal very little damage, but the spread of smoke around the battlefield creates an ideal environment for allowing your party to stick to the shadows. Think of the Trickster as Dragon’s Dogma 2’s truest support class.

Magick Archer

Magick Archer

The Magick Archer is an advanced vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, blending ranged combat with powerful magickal abilities. To unlock this vocation, you must travel to the Agamen Volcanic Island region and locate the Windwalker’s Home, which is only accessible later in the game. Here, you’ll encounter the Magick Archer Maister, who will grant you access to this unique class. The Magick Archer excels at launching magick-infused arrows that can both damage enemies and heal allies, making it one of the most versatile and sought-after vocations for players seeking both offensive and support capabilities.

How to unlock: Help escort Gautstafr to the Volcanic Island Camp hot springs
Weapons: Magic(k)al Bows

The Magick Archer is an Arisen-only vocation that uses a stringless, magical bow. Like the Archer, you’ll primarily be engaging monsters from a distance with your Magickal Bow. But, unlike the Archer, you’ll mix your arrows with magical spells to increase your damage dealing potential.

Warfarer

The Warfarer is an advanced, Arisen-exclusive vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, renowned for its unmatched versatility and adaptability in combat. Unlockable by completing the quest “The Sotted Sage” for Lamond at Geyser Hamlet-after delivering three bottles of Newt Liqueur-the Warfarer allows players to wield every weapon type and equip Weapon Skills and Core Skills from any other vocation, aside from their Maister Skills. This flexibility lets Warfarers create unique combinations and respond to any battle scenario, though it comes at the cost of lower base stats compared to other advanced vocations. Mastering the Warfarer requires tactical awareness and familiarity with multiple playstyles, making it ideal for experienced players who want to blend the strengths of different vocations into a single, dynamic class.

How to unlock: Give Lamond three bottles of Newt Liqueur
Weapons: All

All of the vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are unique, but the Warfarer is definitely the most unique of the bunch. As the Warfarer, you’ll be able to wield multiple weapons types at once, and you can swap weapons on the fly to create a fully customizable play style based on your favorite vocations.
