Pokémon Go Litten Community Day 2024 Event Guide with Shiny Hunting and 3x XP

Guides

Get ready, Trainers! The fiery feline Litten is set to ignite Pokémon GO’s March Community Day, offering a blazing three-hour event packed with exclusive moves, shiny encounters, and special research tasks. Whether you’re hunting for a rare shiny or aiming to power up your Incineroar with the devastating Blast Burn attack, this guide has everything you need to make the most of this fiery celebration.

How do I catch a shiny Litten in Pokémon Go?

To catch a shiny Litten in Pokémon GO, your best opportunity is during the Litten Community Day event, when shiny rates are significantly boosted to about 1 in 25 compared to the usual 1 in 500. During this event, Litten will appear more frequently in the wild, especially in sunny weather, and can also be encountered through special Field Research tasks and 4-star raids featuring Torracat. Using Incense, Lure Modules, and playing in sunny weather can further increase Litten’s spawn rate. After the event, defeating Torracat in raids can trigger a 30-minute increased spawn of Litten around the gym, offering additional chances to catch a shiny. Remember, even with increased rates, shiny encounters are not guaranteed, so persistence is key.

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Litten to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Litten you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

What Community Day move does Litten’s evolution learn?

During Pokémon GO’s Litten Community Day, evolving Torracat into Incineroar between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. local time grants Incineroar the exclusive charged move Blast Burn, a powerful Fire-type attack with 110 power in both Trainer Battles and Gyms/raids. Additionally, starting with the event and continuing afterward, Incineroar can learn the charged move Darkest Lariat, a Dark-type attack useful in battles.

If you evolve Torracat into Incineroar from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Blast Burn.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Blast Burn. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

How does Incineroar do in the Pokémon Go meta?

Incineroar holds a niche but not top-tier position in the Pokémon GO meta. Its best moveset, Snarl and Blast Burn, makes it a decent attacker in both PvP and raids, particularly benefiting from the Community Day exclusive move Blast Burn and the addition of Darkest Lariat. In PvP, Incineroar performs moderately well in the Ultra League due to its favorable typing and bulk, though it is outclassed by many meta staples. In raids, it is considered a Tier 2 Dark-type attacker, useful but behind top counters like Hydreigon and Tyranitar. While it offers solid utility for newer or returning players, serious competitive players often prefer other options for both raid and PvP battles.

Incineroar won’t see much PvP use – it’s too much of a glass cannon for that.

However, just like the other starter Pokémon, it’s pretty good for raiding as both a fire- or dark-type attacker. Give it Fire Fang and Blast Burn for a fire-type moveset and Snarl and Darkest Lariat for a dark-type moveset. (Darkest Lariat is a new attack just added for Incineroar, but it is not a legacy move, so you can use a Charge TM to get it even after the Community Day event ends.)

While, yes, there are Shadow Pokémon and Legendaries stronger than Incineroar, if you’re not a die-hard player, Incineroar will help you contribute substantial damage to your raids and it shouldn’t be ignored!

How do I make the most of Litten Community Day?

To make the most of Litten Community Day in Pokémon GO, focus on maximizing the event’s bonuses and special features during its three-hour window from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. Take advantage of the triple XP for catching Pokémon and double candy rewards to quickly level up and gather resources. Use Incense and Lure Modules, which last for three hours during the event, to increase Litten spawns and boost your chances of encountering shiny variants. Participate in the four-star Torracat raids that follow the event, as winning these will trigger a 30-minute surge of Litten spawns around the gym, offering more shiny opportunities. Don’t forget to complete the event-themed Field Research tasks for additional rewards and encounters. Also, make use of the reduced Stardust cost for trades and the extra special trade allowed during the day to optimize your collection and power up your team. Finally, evolving Torracat during the event grants Incineroar the exclusive Blast Burn move, a valuable asset for battles.

The following bonuses will be active during Litten Community Day:

  • Tripled XP for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31 trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules lasts three hours
  • Litten special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Litten.

If you can Mega Evolve Charizard, Houndoom, Blaziken, or Groudon, you’ll score additional Litten Candy per catch.

In addition to all of this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5-10 p.m., where if you clear the Torracat raid, Litten will spawn in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual 2-5 p.m. spawn increase doesn’t get you the Litten you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.

How can I maximize my Litten catches during Community Day

To maximize your Litten catches during Community Day, follow these key strategies:

  • Arrive early at your chosen location to catch Pokémon you haven’t caught before the event starts, as Litten will appear more frequently during the event hours from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.

  • Use Incense and activate Lure Modules only after the event begins to ensure they last the full three hours, boosting Litten spawns around you.

  • Spin PokéStops frequently to obtain useful items such as Pokéballs, Pinap Berries, and field research tasks that reward additional resources, helping sustain your catching spree.

  • Clear your item bag beforehand to have ample space for hundreds of Litten catches; aim for at least 1,000 free slots if possible.

  • Stock up on Ultra Balls and Great Balls, as you’ll need a large supply to maintain high catch rates throughout the event.

  • Use Pinap Berries to double candy gains, which helps evolve Litten faster during and after the event.

  • Complete the exclusive Special Research “All Fired Up” for extra rewards and encounters with Litten and Torracat.

  • After the main event, participate in four-star raids featuring Torracat to earn more Litten spawns around the raid gym for 30 minutes, increasing your catch opportunities.

  • Be patient and restart the app if you encounter errors or bugs at the start of the event to avoid missing spawns.

By combining these tips, you’ll optimize your catching efficiency and increase your chances of finding shiny Litten and powering up your Incineroar with exclusive moves.

What items should I bring to increase Litten catch rate during Community Day

To increase your Litten catch rate during Community Day, bring the following items:

  • Great Balls and Ultra Balls: These higher-tier Poké Balls improve catch rates, especially important as Litten may be boosted to higher levels with sunny weather, making them harder to catch.

  • Incense: Attaches to your avatar and increases spawn rates of wild Pokémon around you as long as you remain active, helping flood your area with more Litten spawns.

  • Lure Modules: Attach to PokéStops to increase spawns in that area continuously, useful if you stay near multiple PokéStops during the event.

  • Pinap Berries: While optional, they double the candy gained per catch, helping you evolve Litten faster; however, using them may slightly slow down catching speed.

  • Sufficient Pokémon Storage: Ensure you have ample space to catch and store hundreds of Litten without interruption.

  • Poffins: If your buddy Pokémon is Litten or related, feeding a Poffin reduces the walking distance needed to earn candies, speeding up candy collection.

  • Star Pieces and Lucky Eggs (optional): For maximizing Stardust and XP gains during the event, though not directly affecting catch rate.

By preparing these items, you’ll maximize your chances of catching more Litten efficiently and benefiting from the event bonuses.
