Learn how to catch, teach, and level up your Qwilfish to unleash its angrier, more powerful form and complete your Blueberry Pokédex with this elusive evolution.

Below, we detail where to find Hisuian Qwilfish and how to evolve it into Overqwil in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to find Hisuian Qwilfish in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

You can find Hisuian Qwilfish in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC primarily in the Polar Biome waters around Blueberry Academy within the Terarium. These Pokémon are abundant in this cold aquatic environment, making it relatively easy to encounter them. Hisuian Qwilfish are aggressive and tend to dart after players, which can help in locating them quickly. They typically appear in schools swimming in the water, and their levels range from mid-50s to mid-60s in this area.

You can find Hisuian Qwilfish in the Polar Biome waters around Blueberry Academy:

They’re pretty much a plague in the waters, so it shouldn’t take long for you to run into one.

How to evolve Hisuian Qwilfish in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

To evolve Hisuian Qwilfish into Overqwil in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC, you need to ensure it knows the move Barb Barrage, which it naturally learns at level 28. If your Qwilfish does not know this move or has forgotten it due to high level, you can use the move relearning feature to teach it Barb Barrage again. Once Hisuian Qwilfish knows Barb Barrage, simply level it up one more time-either through battle experience or using a Rare Candy-and it will evolve into Overqwil. Hisuian Qwilfish can be found in the icy waters of the Polar Biome in the Terarium area of the DLC.

To evolve Hisuian Qwilfish into Overqwil, it needs to learn the move Barb Barrage, which it’ll learn naturally by leveling up to 28. Once it knows Barb Barrage, level it up again and it’ll evolve.

If you caught a high-leveled Qwilfish, you can re-teach it by going to its moves from its summary screen and pressing A. Just level it again after it relearns Barb Barrage.

How can I unlock Overqwil in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC

To unlock Overqwil in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC, follow these steps:

  1. Catch Hisuian Qwilfish in the Polar Biome of the Terarium, an aquatic area accessible within the DLC. Hisuian Qwilfish is not version-exclusive, so it can be found regardless of your game version.

  2. Ensure your Hisuian Qwilfish knows the move Barb Barrage, which it learns naturally at level 28 in Scarlet and Violet. If your Qwilfish does not know this move, you can use the move relearning feature to teach it Barb Barrage.

  3. Level up Hisuian Qwilfish once while it knows Barb Barrage. This can be done through battling or by using Exp. Candy or Rare Candy. Upon leveling up with Barb Barrage known, Hisuian Qwilfish will evolve into Overqwil.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to evolve Hisuian Qwilfish yourself, Overqwil can also be caught directly in 6-star Tera Raid Battles, which unlock after completing the Academy Ace Tournament and some 5-star Tera Raids in the Terarium.

This evolution method is simpler than the one in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, where Hisuian Qwilfish had to use Barb Barrage in Strong Style 20 times before leveling up.

Do I need to level up Hisuian Qwilfish before learning Barb Barrage

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you do need to level up Hisuian Qwilfish to at least level 28 to naturally learn the move Barb Barrage. Only after your Qwilfish knows Barb Barrage can you evolve it into Overqwil by leveling it up once more while it has the move. So, you must reach level 28 first to acquire Barb Barrage before evolving.
