Infernal Iron Locations in Baldur s Gate 3 Act 1 Find and Use Guide

Guides

Infernal Iron gleams amid Act 1’s shadows, fueling pacts and upgrades-but only if you know its hiding spots.

Infernal Iron is a key resource early on in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you’re looking to help out Karlach, the Barbarian with a flaming engine in her heart. Over the course of the game’s first two acts, you’ll need to find two pieces of the rare metal and give them to Dammon, a special Tiefling blacksmith in the Emerald Grove (and other places) who can help you and Karlach complete ‘The Hellion’s Heart’ quest.

In this Baldur’s Gate 3 guide, we’re going to show you where to find two pieces of Infernal Iron early in act 1, which will allow you to finish Karlach’s quest the moment you get to the Last Light Inn in act 2.

Where can you find Infernal Iron for Karlach?

In Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, Infernal Iron for Karlach appears in the Blighted Village blacksmith’s locked room and the Shattered Sanctum treasure room behind Dror Ragzlin’s throne at the Goblin Camp. Additional pieces exist in the Zhentarim Basement and a gold pile at the Goblin Camp’s end. Take these to Dammon in the Emerald Grove to advance her quest.

In order to use Dammon’s services, you’ll first need to find Karlach and listen to her about her heart problems. You can find her cooling off by the river to the north of the Blighted Village, east of the Goblin Camp.

You’ll then need to find one piece of Infernal Iron. Lucky for you, there are two pieces that are relatively easy to get early on in Baldur’s Gate 3. The first is in the Blighted Village. The second is in the Goblin Camp.

You can find your first piece of Infernal Iron in the basement of the Blighted Village, which you can access via the locked door or the webbed ceiling. If you need help finding it, check out our guide for the Masterwork Weapon Forge. In the same room as the forge, you’ll find a ladder that leads to a locked chest. Pick the lock yourself (or get Asterion to help), and you’ll find some Infernal Iron hidden inside.

If you’re not exploring too much off the main path, chances are the first time you’ll actually come across Infernal Iron is in the Goblin Camp. You can find it inside the Shattered Sanctum, in the treasure room just behind Dror Ragzlin‘s throne. Pick the lock to get in and you’ll find a ton of treasure waiting for you – including the Infernal Iron.

Is there more Infernal Iron in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 contains multiple Infernal Iron pieces beyond Act 1’s Blighted Village and Shattered Sanctum. Players find three in Act 1 alone, with additional ones in Grymforge and Zhentarim Hideout, plus more across Acts 2 and 3 like Mason’s Guild and Flymm Cargo. Karlach’s quest requires only two total, leaving extras for crafting or later use.

There are many other pieces of Infernal Iron (as well as Infernal Alloy and Infernal Metal) in Baldur’s Gate 3, and you’ll find it off the beaten path throughout your playthrough.

How to find Dammon in Emerald Grove for Infernal Iron

Dammon, the Tiefling blacksmith who upgrades Karlach’s engine using Infernal Iron, is located in the Emerald Grove during Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Location in the Grove

Head to The Hollow, the lower section of the Emerald Grove accessible via stairs near the gnome trader and the Strange Ox. Dammon works at his forge in a small blacksmith shop north of the main area, close to the prison entrance.

Quest Requirements

Reach the Grove early in Act 1 without siding against the Tieflings-raiding it or letting goblins take over kills him. Bring Infernal Iron from Blighted Village or Shattered Sanctum; he’ll perform the first upgrade if Karlach is in your party.

Where is Dammon in Act 2 at Last Light Inn

Dammon relocates to the Last Light Inn in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3, provided he survived Act 1 by not siding against the Tieflings in the Emerald Grove.

Exact Location

Find him at the stables or makeshift forge to the right (east) of the inn’s main entrance, around coordinates X:-33 Y:165 or X:-35 Y:169. He’s working as a blacksmith among the Tiefling refugees.

Survival Conditions

He only appears if the Tieflings escape the Grove (kill goblin leaders) and if you protect Isobel to keep the inn’s protective barrier intact-otherwise, he turns into a shadow-cursed undead. Bring the second Infernal Iron here for Karlach’s next engine upgrade.
