Stuck with an empty cooking pot in Hyrule? Wild greens are hiding in plain sight across fields, forests, and cliff edges, and the right patches can turn your basic meals into powerful healing dishes. Here’s how to track down the best spots, harvest safely, and transform those humble plants into standout recipes in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
What are wild greens in Zelda: TOTK?
Wild greens in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom refer to harvestable plants like herbs, flowers, and vegetables scattered across Hyrule, such as sundelions, Hyrule herbs, or carrots. Players first encounter the term during the Gloom-Borne Illness side quest in Kakariko Village, where sundelions serve as the key ingredient for Sunny Veggie Porridge to cure the illness. These greens cook into dishes like Fried Wild Greens, which restore hearts without meat, fruits, or mushrooms.โ
The first place you’ll likely run into the phrase “wild greens” is during the “Gloom-borne Illness” side quest in Kakariko Village. It’s the quest that makes the Stealth Armor set drop from exorbitantly expensive to a reasonable price.

In Tears of the Kingdom, “wild greens” is actually a catch-all term for plants. When talking about food, “wild greens” just means food with plants.
For the purposes of the side quest you likely first heard the term in, “wild greens” in the Sunny Veggie Porridge recipe is vaguely referring to plants – and you have to figure out which plant. Since you’re dealing with Gloom, the specific plant the recipe calls for is a sundelion.
Where to find wild greens
Wild greens appear across Hyrule’s fields, forests, and shores in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Check open meadows near Kakariko Village or the plains south of Hyrule Castle for common types like Silent Princess and Cool Safflina. Coastal areas yield Seawater greens, while mountain slopes offer Goron Greens amid rocky outcrops. Use the Purah Pad’s scope to spot glowing plants from afar, and visit during clear weather for better visibility. Restock spots regenerate after blood moons.
As we mentioned before, sometimes “wild greens” can refer to a specific plant – like sundelions in the “Gloom-borne Illness”side quest. But it’s important to remember that it doesn’t always mean Sundelions, so not every recipe with “wild greens” attached to the name will protect you from Gloom.
If you’re specifically looking for sundelions, you can find them on sky islands high above Hyrule. We recommend checking out the South Eldin Sky Archipelago, which you can get to very easily from the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower. We found five Sundelions on the main platform alone, and it has a convenient fast-travel location through the Kadaunar Shrine.
If you’re looking to make other wild greens recipes, just collect any variety of plants around Hyrule and start experimenting with them. If you throw in some plants and other veggies, you’ll get a wild greens recipe.
Wild Greens recipes
Wild greens are a flexible ingredient in Tears of the Kingdom, letting you turn basic foraged plants into hearty meals or quick snacks. Cook them on their own for simple dishes that restore a small amount of hearts, or mix them with ingredients like mushrooms, meat, and herbs to boost stats such as stamina or defense. Different combinations change both the name and strength of the meal, so experiment with what you gather in fields, forests, and mountain slopes to find recipes that match the challenges ahead.
In the names of meals, wild greens covers all recipes that are primarily vegetable-based – meaning there’s no meat, mushrooms, or fruit involved. This includes everything from flowers to turnips to carrots (but not stambulbs, oddly).
Cooking a meal out of only plants results in some sort of fried wild greens meal that usually heals at least a few hearts. Some plants will also give you an added bonus. Here are a couple of wild greens recipes:
- sneaky fried wild greens – Healing and Stealth Up (silent princesses and other plants)
- hasty fried wild greens – Healing and Speed Up (swift carrots and other plants)
- enduring fried wild Greens – Healing and stamina (2x herbs, 2x meat, 1x vegetable)
- copious fried wild greens – Healing (4 different herbs, plants, or vegetables)
Fried Wild Greens recipe
Fried Wild Greens is a simple dish in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that restores hearts when eaten. It requires cooking one or more wild greens in a pot.โ
Ingredients
Use at least one wild green such as Hyrule Herb, Silent Princess, Swift Violet, or Cool Safflina. For the basic version, Hyrule Herbs work well; cooking five greens makes Copious Fried Wild Greens for more hearts restored. Do not mix with meats, fruits, or conflicting items to avoid Dubious Food.โ
How to Cook
Drop the ingredients into any Cooking Pot found at villages, stables, or campsites. Select “Hold” on the greens in your inventory, then choose “Cook” at the pot. The dish cooks instantly, yielding up to five portions with multiple greens.โ
Uses and Effects
Restores 2-3 hearts per serving, scaling with quantity. Ideal for early-game health recovery or horse gear upgrades needing multiples. Enhance with dragon parts for elixirs if desired, but pure greens keep the fried effect.โ
How to make Copious Fried Wild Greens
Copious Fried Wild Greens restores more hearts than basic Fried Wild Greens in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It requires exactly four different wild greens cooked together.โ
Required Ingredients
Select four unique wild greens, such as Hyrule Herb, Silent Princess, Swift Violet, and Warm Safflina. These must all fall under the wild greens category (plants, herbs, flowers, veggies)-no meats, fruits, or mushrooms. Examples include Cool Safflina or Silent Shrooms for variety.โ
Cooking Steps
Hold the four ingredients in your inventory, approach a Cooking Pot at a stable or camp, and select “Cook.” The game combines them automatically into Copious Fried Wild Greens if no conflicting items are added. It yields multiple servings for greater heart recovery.โ
Effects and Tips
Restores up to 13 hearts total, ideal for health boosts or quests. For buffs like stealth or resistance, include greens with those effects (e.g., Silent Princess). Farm them in fields or sky islands for easy access.โ
