How to Find Snowquill Armor in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Guides

Frigid peaks and biting winds aren’t enough to stop Link-but without the Snowquill Armor, the cold can end your adventure fast. Here’s how to track down each piece of this winter gear and stay warm while conquering the icy heights of Hyrule.

Snowquill Armor location

The Snowquill Armor can be purchased in Rito Village, located in the northwest region of Hyrule. You’ll find the armor pieces in the shop run by the Rito merchant near the large central platform of the village. Each piece-helm, tunic, and trousers-offers cold resistance, making them valuable for exploring snowy or high-altitude areas. Bring enough rupees, as the full set can be quite expensive but provides excellent protection from freezing temperatures once equipped.

All three pieces of Snowquill armor are available for purchase from the general store in Rito Village. Rito Village is situated between Tabantha Frontier and the Hebra region, and it’s where Tears of the Kingdom encourages you to go first.

You can use the Gatakis Shrine as a fast travel point to return quickly. However, the armor’s price is prohibitively expensive, even more so if you do visit Rito Village first.

Here’s what you can expect to pay in total:

  • Snowquill Tunic – 500 Rupees
  • Snowquill Headdress – 650 Rupees
  • Snowquill Trousers – 1,000 Rupees

Yes, that’s a grand total of 2,150 Rupees. Each piece grants 3 defense as a base and grants you cold resistance, reducing the damage you take when the weather drops.

The full set keeps you warm in the coldest areas – essential for exploring Hebra – and it also makes you unfreezable, when upgraded. That’s a pretty useful perk in this part of Hyrule, and if you want that for yourself, we have some tips for making a lot of money fast.

Can you get Snowquill Armor without paying for it?

You can’t obtain the full Snowquill Armor set entirely for free, as it’s sold by the armor shop in Rito Village. However, you can gather rupees without spending real money by selling valuable materials like gemstones or monster parts found during exploration. Once you’ve earned enough, purchase each piece of the set-Tunic, Trousers, and Headdress-to gain strong cold resistance for snowy regions.

Sorry, the only way to get the Snowquill Armor is purchasing it at the Rito store. Unlike some other special armor sets, you can’t find it in the sky or by completing challenges in the Depths.

If you don’t want to shell out, there are other ways to survive the cold while keeping your wallet intact, though. Our guide on gaining cold resistance – which covers the recipes and other armor pieces that prevent you from taking damage in inclement weather – can show you how to explore Hebra without taking damage from the environment.

Snowquill armor upgrade costs, set bonus, and effect

The Snowquill armor set provides Cold Resistance to each piece, with a full set bonus called Unfreezable that prevents freezing from ice attacks once upgraded to two stars or higher. Base defense stands at 3 per piece (9 total), rising to 20 per piece (60 total) at four stars through upgrades at Great Fairy fountains using materials like Red Chuchu Jelly, Warm Safflina, Sunshrooms, Fire Keese Wings, Fire-Breath Lizalfos parts, and Rubies. Full set upgrades across all pieces require 24 Red Chuchu Jellies, 9 Warm Safflinas, 15 Sunshrooms, 15 Fire Keese Wings, 39 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails, 15 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns, 15 Rubies, and 2280 Rupees.โ€‹โ€‹

As mentioned above, the Snowquill Armor gives you stacking cold resistance for each piece you have equipped. When each piece is upgraded to two-star or higher and equipped, you’ll also become unfreezable, which is nice for fighting ice enemies.

To upgrade the Snowquill Armor, head over to a Great Fairy Fountain with the following:

  • 1-star (5 defense): 3 Red Chuchu jelly, 10 rupees
  • 2-star (8 defense): 5 Red Chuchu jelly, 3 warm safflina, 50 rupees
  • 3-star (12 defense): 5 Fire Keese wings, 3 Fire-Breath Lizalfos tails, 5 sunshrooms, 200 rupees
  • 4-star (20 defense): 5 Fire-Breath Lizalfos horns, 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos tails, 5 rubies, 500 rupees

To upgrade everything to the max, you’ll need 24 Red Chuchu jelly, 15 Fire KEese Wings, 33 Fire-Breath Lizalfos tails, 15 Fire-Breath Lizalfos horns, 9 warm safflina, 15 sunshrooms, 15 rubies, and 2,280 rupees.
