Nioh 3 Hamamatsu Hill Access Guide

Guides

Hidden beyond the misty ridges of Hamamatsu Hill lies a fortified enemy base brimming with rare loot and fierce opponents. This guide reveals the exact sequence of actions needed to gain access, outsmart the guards, and claim every reward waiting behind its sealed gates.

How to unlock the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base in Nioh 3

To gain access to the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base, first progress the side questline involving Ii Naotora at Hamamatsu Castle Keep, then travel north to Ryotan Temple in the Iinoya region and complete the Fated Land mission to obtain the Mountain Temple Key from her. With the key in hand, fast travel back to the Mikatagahara Junction shrine in Hamamatsu Hill, head northeast across the stone bridge, and use the key on the locked gate at the far end to enter the stronghold and clear out the yokai inside.

The spoiler-free, succinct explanation of how to unlock the enemy base in Hamamatsu Hill is that you need to progress further through the story. If you don’t want minor spoilers for an upcoming quest, stop reading now.

For a more detailed explanation, you need to get the Mountain Temple Key from Ii Naotora, which you’ll get once you complete the “Fated Land” quest at Ryotan Temple. Ii Naotora will return to Hamamatsu Castle, and you can speak to her to get the key and start the “Ii’s Memento” quest. She’ll explain that another temple there – an unnamed one this time, north of Hamamatsu Castle – has been overrun by Yokai (what a surprise), and with the key, you’ll be able to access the enemy base there.

Head inside and you’ll find just five Yokai to deal with. Dispatch them and the enemy base will be complete – getting you one step closer to completing the entire Hamamatsu Hill region.

What rewards are inside the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base

Inside the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base, the main rewards are a loot chest with high-quality gear and key progression items, plus completion credit for Ii Naotora’s request.

Specific rewards

  • A guaranteed Samurai’s Locks drop, giving you extra samurai skill points.

  • A named armor piece, usually recorded as Sincere Buddha’s Gauntlets in guides, which is part of a useful early-game set.

  • Standard high-rarity loot from the chest (weapons, armor, and materials scaled to your level).

  • Enemy-base capture credit for Hamamatsu Hill Enemy Base 1, which contributes to full area completion and associated exploration bonuses.

If you fully clear the Dark Realm and defeat the revenant (Aggrieved Warrior) at the top, you receive the same loot plus his drop table, which can include additional armor pieces and weapons tied to his loadout.

How to defeat the Aggrieved Warrior Revenant in Hamamatsu Hill

The Aggrieved Warrior Revenant fights like an aggressive, ki-hungry samurai, so your goal is to drain his ki, punish whiffs, and avoid trading head-on.

Recommended setup

  • Use a fast weapon (sword, duals, or tonfa) in mid stance so you can dodge and punish quickly. This helps you stay close enough to bait attacks but still react.

  • Bring elixirs and at least one ki recovery or defense buff (Onmyo/Ninjutsu if your build allows) to survive mistakes during his longer combos.

Core strategy

  • Stay just inside his attack range to bait a full combo, then dodge backward so his swings whiff and burn his ki.

  • The moment his combo ends, rush in with a short string of light attacks focused on ki damage (skills like Sword Ki / Sword of Discernment-style moves in Nioh are very effective vs Revenants).

  • Once his ki breaks, use a grapple/Final Blow and then back off instead of overextending; he recovers quickly if you let him get up unpressured.

Move patterns and punish windows

  • Horizontal rush combo: Side-step or back-step through the first swing, let him finish the chain, then counter from his side or back with 2-3 hits max. Over-attacking here usually gets you clipped by a delayed follow-up.

  • Guard-breaking thrust: If you see him draw back for a longer thrust, dodge diagonally toward his weapon side; you will usually end up behind him with time for a strong attack or skill.

  • Red-glow power move (Burst-style attack): When you see the red aura, close the gap and use your stance-change / burst-counter-equivalent mechanic to interrupt it, then unload a full combo while his ki bar chunks down.

Extra tips to make it easier

  • Treat him like a duel: prioritize ki damage over HP damage. Breaking ki 2-3 times is safer than trying to burst his health in one risky sequence.

  • Do not spam block; Revenants chew through your ki. Mix short blocks with dodges, then retaliate only when his ki is low or he whiffs clearly.

  • If you struggle, level up your preferred weapon skill that boosts ki damage against human-type enemies (Revenants count as human in most Nioh combat systems), then come back; the fight becomes much more manageable.
