Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Dragon Locations and How to Find Them

Guides

Soar through Hyrule’s skies on the backs of colossal dragons, harvesting their precious parts while tracing their endless flight paths.

Dragon locations and flight paths in Tears of the Kingdom

Dragons in Tears of the Kingdom follow fixed routes that loop through Hyrule’s skies and underground areas. Dinraal soars near the Eldin region and occasionally passes through deep chasms; Naydra glides along the Lanayru ranges and enters caverns below; Farosh moves across the Faron and Gerudo areas, often appearing during storms. The Light Dragon travels a grand circle across the entire map, staying visible high above the clouds. Tracking their patterns helps players collect materials like scales, claws, and horns while timing glider flights or sky island landings.

There are four dragons in Tears of the Kingdom: the three you encountered in Breath of the Wild, and a fourth dragon that’s new to the series.

  • Farosh: Often seen around Lake Hylia and Gerudo Canyon.
  • Naydra: Often seen around East Necluda and Mount Lanayru.
  • Dinraal: Often seen around Eldin Mountains and Deep Akkala.
  • Light Dragon: Circles the exterior of Hyrule.

The locations above for Farosh, Naydra, and Dinraal are listed in-game as the common spots for each dragon. That being said, they only serve as a general reference. Each dragon follows its own looping route, which we’ve broken down in more detail below. But there are times when dragons might be slightly outside their corresponding regions.

If you’re searching for a dragon along their flight path but don’t see them on the surface, it’s likely that the dragon is in the Depths. As part of their flight path, Farosh, Naydra, and Dinraal will fly in and out of chasms within their corresponding region. The Light Dragon, however, can always be found on the surface.

Unlike in Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdomdragon locations aren’t tied to times of day. Instead, the dragons continuously circle their route. So if you don’t see a dragon on the surface, it’s because they’re probably in the Depths. The best bet is to either wait in place or try to catch them on the other side of the chasm.

How to jump on a dragon in Tears of the Kingdom

Gain height using Skyview Towers along the dragon’s path or sky islands nearby, then glide toward its back when close. Paraglide carefully to land on the scales, holding enough stamina to cover the distance without falling short. Once mounted, walk freely along the body to harvest parts or ride its full circuit.

The first step in mounting a dragon isn’t surprising: you need to gain some altitude. Thankfully, there are usually at least two Skyview Towers around each dragon path, which you can use to quickly move between the areas and lift yourself up, allowing yourself to easily spot the dragon and glide over. Other options, such as using Recall on any sky rocks on the ground, or just building a vehicle to take flight using Zonai Devices, will also get you close to the dragons. You can also wait by their respective chasms and hop on as the dragons are entering or exiting.

Lastly, keep in mind that aside from the Light Dragon, the rest will attack you with their corresponding element – lightning for Farosh, frost for Naydra, and fire for Dinraal. Also, each dragon will have extreme weather conditions related to its element, so you’ll need to prepare accordingly beforehand. Details about how to resist each condition, as well as specific locations to find each dragon, are listed below.

Where to find Farosh, lightning dragon flight path

Farosh emerges from the East Gerudo Chasm south of Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and flies north over Gerudo Canyon, Mount Nabooru, and Lake Hylia before diving into Hills of Baumer Chasm. It spends much of its 35-minute loop underground in the Depths, circling south of Lake Hylia through Faron Grasslands, around South Lomei Labyrinth, and back to the Gerudo Chasm. Check these chasms or wait along the surface path near Lake Hylia for reliable sightings, stowing metal gear to avoid lightning strikes.

Farosh circles Gerudo Canyon, Mount Nabooru, Mount Hylia, the River of the Dead, and Scout’s Hill before entering the Depths. Then, the dragon re-emerges to the surface from the chasm south of Gerudo Canyon. Here’s a map outlining Farosh’s approximated path, with the darker color indicating the route in the Depths:

To make it easier to spot Farosh, you can lift yourself up using the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower.

Farosh shoots lightning bolts at those who approach it, and it’s constantly surrounded by an electrical storm. In order to resist Farosh’s lighting, craft elixirs or meals that can grant you resistance to electricity. For extra protection, get your hands on the Rubber Armor set, which provides Link with shock resistance. You can grab the chest piece inside a chest in Whistling Hill Cave – it’s located southeast of Hyrule Field, north of the Teniten Shrine at the coordinates (-0073, -1045, 0019).

Where to find Naydra, frost dragon flight path

Naydra, the frost dragon, emerges from the Naydra Snowfield Chasm west of Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and follows a looping path southeast along the Lanayru Range past Walnot Mountain and Hateno Village to Kitano Bay. The route continues west of Ebon Mountain, Meda Mountain, and Cliffs of Quince before returning via chasms near Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower, completing a cycle roughly every 15 minutes. Cold weather accompanies its flight, so wear resistant gear before approaching. Spot it most reliably at the starting chasm or high points like sky islands.

Naydra circles Mount Lanayru, Walnot Mountain, Kitano Bay, Ebon Mountain, Meda Mountain, Cliffs of Quince, and Kakariko Village before entering the Depths in the East Hill chasm. Then, the dragon re-emerges to the surface from the chasm west of Mount Lanayru. Here’s a map outlining Naydra’s approximated path, with the darker color indicating the route in the Depths:

To make it easier to spot Naydra, you can lift yourself up in the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower.

Naydra shoots balls of ice at those who approach them, and they freeze the air surrounding themselves. There are several things you can do to resist the Naydra’s frost. Crafting the right elixirs and meals, as well as decking yourself out in the Snowquill Armor set are great starts. Check out our dedicated guide for all the best ways to get cold resistance, all of which will help you prepare to get on and farm materials from Naydra.

Where to find Dinraal, fire dragon flight path

Dinraal follows a wide loop along the north of Hyrule, emerging from the East Akkala Plains Chasm in Deep Akkala before gliding over the Akkala Sea and skirting the northern edge of Death Mountain toward the Great Hyrule Forest. You can reliably spot the fire dragon from high vantage points such as Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower or Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower, then glide down to land on its back as it passes beneath you.

Dinraal flies around the outer areas of the Death Mountain, circling East Akkala, North Akkala Beach, Akkala Wilds, Skull Lake, Eldin’s Flank, Darunia Lake, and Thyphlo Ruins. Then, the dragon descends to the Depths, and re-emerges from the East Akkala Plains chasm. Here’s a map outlining Dinraal’s approximated path, with the darker color indicating the route in the Depths:

Dinraal can be tricky to spot, as the Death Mountain impedes visibility depending on your location. To make it easier to find Dinraal, you can lift yourself up in the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower and Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower.

Dinraal shoots fireballs at those who approach it, and the air surrounding them is dangerously hot. There are several things you can do to resist the Dinraal’s fire. Again, it’s all about taking the elixirs, eating beneficial food, and decking yourself out in strategic armor, like the Desert Voe set. Check out our dedicated guide for all the best ways to get heat resistance, all of which will help you prepare to get on and farm materials from Naydra.

Where to find Light Dragon, Light Dragon flight path

The Light Dragon circles the entire map in a long, continuous route high above Hyrule, moving in a clockwise loop that passes the Great Hyrule Forest, Eldin, Lanayru, and Faron before returning west. It’s often visible from the skies near the surface gaps or skyview towers. To reach it, glide from a nearby Sky Island or launch with the paraglider from a tower when it passes overhead. Keep an eye out for its bright glow and the shimmering aura that marks its trail through the clouds.

The Light Dragon is the most elusive of the bunch, as the creature’s route encompasses the entire outskirts of Hyrule. Among the places the Light Dragon flies are Goronbi Lake, Zora’s Domain, Hateno Village, Lindor’s Brow, and Thyphlo Ruins. The upside is that once you do find the Light Dragon, it won’t attack you when you get close to it.

But if it’s taking a long time to track down, we gathered all of the information you need to find the Light Dragon, allowing you to mine precious materials – and gain the Master Sword.

Dragon parts in Tears of the Kingdom

Dragon parts in Tears of the Kingdom are valuable crafting materials dropped by the four elemental dragons-Dinraal, Naydra, Farosh, and the Light Dragon. Players can shoot the dragons with arrows to obtain items such as scales, claws, fangs, and shards of their spikes, each used for upgrading armor or fusing weapons. These parts respawn after a set period, allowing repeated collection. Each dragon’s part carries its elemental attribute, making them useful for specialized gear enhancements and elixirs.

A big incentive to track down the four dragons is to farm dragon parts. They make for a great Fuse combination, as they add a ton of damage and also imbue the weapon with the elemental power of the dragon. They’re also great for cooking recipes and elixirs, and necessary for certain armor upgrades.

How to farm dragon parts like horns fangs and claws safely

Farming dragon parts like horns, fangs, and claws in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom involves riding the dragons safely along their paths and targeting specific body parts, with parts respawning every 10 minutes.

Safe Approach

Land on the dragon’s back using a Skyview Tower for height and updrafts, or paraglide from afar-avoid frontal approaches to dodge elemental orbs. Dismount only when needed for claws or fangs; stay mounted for scales, spikes, and horns to minimize fall risks. Equip environmental armor (e.g., Flame Guard for Dinraal) and bring Tulin for wind boosts or extra stamina.

Targeting Parts

  • Horns: Mount and run to the head, then melee strike the glowing horns-they drop right there for easy pickup without jumping.

  • Fangs: Jump off near the mouth, slow time with a bow mid-air, and shoot the lower jaw precisely (higher hits yield scales).

  • Claws: Land on a foot, strike with melee or bow in bullet time while gliding down-paraglide to catch the drop before it vanishes.

Collection Tips

Parts glow and stick briefly (10 minutes) before despawning-dive or glide to grab them quickly. Wait out the timer mounted for repeats, farming one dragon per session. For efficiency, fuse horns into durable weapons at Tarrey Town to avoid breakage during strikes.

Where do Dinraal Farosh and Naydra spawn each day

Dinraal, Farosh, and Naydra in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom follow fixed looping paths rather than strict daily spawn points like in Breath of the Wild, emerging from chasms and flying continuously with a 10-15 minute respawn timer after harvesting parts.

Dinraal Spawns

Dinraal emerges daily from a chasm near the ancient tech lab south of Hateno Village around dawn, then flies north through Eldin Mountains past Death Mountain and Thyphlo Ruins before diving back underground.

Farosh Spawns

Farosh rises from chasms near Faron Highlander Camp or Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower starting early morning, looping over Faron Grasslands, lakes, and Gerudo Highlands sky islands.

Naydra Spawns

Naydra appears from chasms atop Mount Lanayru or near Hateno around early morning, descending south through East Necluda along Nashuj Trental Terrace into the Depths.

Daily Routine

Check Skyview Towers at first light (5-7 AM in-game) along their paths for reliable sightings; they cycle predictably every session without fixed hourly spawns, unlike prior games.
